Nicko McBrain's Purple
experience
The drummer, Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden) went to see
Deep Purple's concert in Birmingham 3 days ago. Here is what he had to say about
it:
"I had 5 tickets to go see Deep Purple. I took Steve and Jan and Mark White and
his lovely wife Debbie. The band was on fire. I love these guys they are so ‘Kin
tight its great. Ian Gillan was in fine voice and Steve Morse's guitar work was
on splendid form. Don Airey did a fantastic keyboard solo that you would have to
go a ‘Kin long way to better. He is awesome. Roger Glover was stunning as usual
and along with the heartbeat was me lovely pal Ian Paice. He’s always on top of
the game. I love watching him play. He has a great and unique style when he
plays. He makes it look so effortless. I love him. God Blessed you mate!"

Steve Morse about Bananas
Steve Morse wrote a letter in the middle of the
European tour. Here is a few bits:
"Our new Deep Purple album is due out sometime in August, so there is already
getting to be some reviewers involved. The initial impressions are very
positive, so that's looking like a good thing."
"Actually, it was just a funny reaction that Ian Gillan had when Don and I
played this intense instrumental exchange on the song of that same name. Imagine
a very proper English accent saying "that sound like you've gone bananas" or
something to that effect."
"By the way, Roger says the title came from a National Geographic type photo he
pointed out to Ian that showed a skinny guy driving a bicycle loaded down with
hundreds of bananas.....to which Ian replied, "That's brilliant!""

New Bananas!
At the first Deep Purple show in 2003 Ian Gillan

whether band really has, ahem, gone bananas, there is an explanation to
this, which Ian was happy to give Belgian DPAS chairman Marc Brans - read it at
the UK DPAS website
The new tour has also revealed two songs from the new album; Haunted, which is
described as a slow ballad, and I've Got Your Number, which seems to be an

Interview with Roger
There is a new interview with Roger Glover, done by
Classic Rock Revisited, where
Roger talks about his solo album (Snapshot) and the new Deep Purple album, among
other things. Here is a few bits.
"We finished the album, it's being mixed, I've heard some early mixes and I
guess there's going to be some more. It won't be out until September, 2003."
"We're going out in June, in Europe. It's really just a stop-gap tour. We're not
going to be featuring any new material. We are going to be featuring new
material for the audience, but not any new material from the band. We'll be
doing some things from the past that we haven't done before."
"The schedule at the moment now looks like we're going to be in Europe all the
way up until Christmas. Then, I think we start, in the middle of January, 2004
on a big American tour and not sharing the bill for a change, it'll be our own
tour and therefore indoors."
Check out the
interview.
