Steve Morse took some time off during the Bananas
World Tour - North America and wrote a letter. Here is a few bits.

Pictorial Journal
Over the years, Deep Purple's manager, Bruce Payne, have captured a lot of
photos of Deep Purple in the studio and on the road. He is planing to release a
hard cover pictorial journal later this year.

Living Loud
"Living Loud" is the name of the project we have reported about before, but then
it went under names like "The Meek" and "The Rage". Living Loud feature
Steve Morse,
Don Airey,
Bob Daisley (bss),
Lee Kerslake (drm)
and Jimmy Barnes (vcl). The first
single from the album ("Relentless") will be released March 9 and is called "In
The Name Of God". UNICEF will use the single
as part of a fundraising event to raise awareness and monies for the kids of

Ian Gillan a few

"We tend to make up a set list about five minutes before we go onstage. It gets
dangerous up there that's what keeps it fresh."
"Strangely enough, I was talking to Luciano Pavarotti - we did a show with him
earlier in the year. He was saying, 'I'm so jealous of you being able to sing 'Smoke
on the Water' every night. I have to sing these arias."

Deep Purple touring Australia
Starting late April, Deep Purple will take in a string of medium-sized theatres
in major Australian cities. Tentative venues include Melbourne's Regent Theatre,
Adelaide's The Barton, Sydney's Lyric Theatre and Brisbane's QPAC. Check back

This spring
Deep Purple will be the first
band to bring Western rock to China. A local promoter is advertising
Ritchie Blackmore as the guitarist
on Deep Purple's upcoming four-date tour of
China. Be advised that this is not correct.

Butterfly Ball Again
Yesterday,
Roger
Glover were guesting US radio show
Rockline. He revealed that there is lot of talk about redoing
Butterfly Ball in
Royal Albert Hall, probably in a
year or a year and a half. He also said he is working on an autobiography, but
it will take a few years.
Steve Morse
was also calling into Rockline and answered a few questions. Roger Glover even
got questions from former Deep Purple singer
Glenn Hughes and
Joe Lynn Turner, which were guesting
Rockline recently.

Airey, Hughes & Iommi
According to
Black Sabbath Online, Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) intends on releasing what's
commonly known as the "Eighth
Star bootleg". The album feature
Don Airey
and former Deep Purple singer Glenn Hughes
and was original recorded back in 1996, for what was then to be a Tony Iommi's
first official solo album. The album is planned to be released later this year.

Paice & Hughes
In October last year,
Ian Paice was in Italy for a recording session (see
photo from the session) with an Italian project called
Moonstone. Three songs were recorded with
Ian Paice. One is called "Rose in Hell", which former Deep Purple member
Glenn Hughes sings on. There is no
confirmed record deal yet, but a release is planned for summer/early fall. See a

New Deep Purple Book
A new book about Deep Purple is going to be released
June 1. It's written by the London based Dave Thompson (who has written
several rock books) and it will be titled "Smoke On The Water: The Deep
Purple Story". The book has around 300 pages and the story goes from 1968 to
2003. Here is one Deep Purple article by Dave Thompson, which was publish in "Goldmine
Magazine" 1998, "Life
Without Ritchie".

Live on the BBC
A new album with Deep Purple called "Live on the BBC"
will be released on January 14. It's in fact the same album as "In
Concert" (1972 part) with two extra tracks, "Hush" (Shades
of Deep Purple) and "River Deep Mountain High" (The
Book of Taliesyn). The album is a dual-layer SACD and can be played on both
CD and SACD players. The album can be ordered throught
