WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 13, 1999 HEAVY METAL'S HIGHWAY STARS SHINE ON WARNER ARCHIVES/RHINO BOX SET Shades (1968-1998) Honors Deep Purple on March 16, 1999 LOS ANGELES - Warner Archives/Rhino shifts into high gear with the March 16 release of SHADES (1968-1998), representing the first-ever complete history available in the U.S. of heavy metal pioneers Deep Purple. With a suggested retail price of $59.98, this definitive four-CD box set features 62 tracks from 20 Deep Purple albums plus four previously released anthologies between 1968 and 1998, and encompasses all phases of the influential band's career. The collection also unearths many rare cuts plus tracks previously unreleased in the U.S. Designed by Rhino's Grammy Award-winning creative team, the deluxe packaging opens horizontally and features an embossed foil stamping of the logo on a "Deep Purple" digi-box. The accompanying 56-page book chronicles the band's complete history as presented by Jim Ladd (renowned U.S. FM-radio personality) and Mick Wall (Mojo), and includes detailed track-by-track annotations, exclusive quotes, discography, detailed band lineup information, and rare photos. Extensively cross-licensed, SHADES (1968-1998) was developed by Rhino with input from the band. This definitive collection includes tracks from the Tetragrammaton, Warner Bros., Mercury, RCA, and Giant record labels, and features Deep Purple classics such as "Smoke On The Water," "Hush," "Fireball," "Strange Kind Of Woman," "Highway Star," "Space Truckin'," "Woman From Tokyo," and "Knocking At Your Back Door." Throughout their 30 year career, Deep Purple's trademark sound of blistering guitars and dramatic keyboards has survived more than its share of personnel changes. And yet their impact has spanned every decade of hard rock and heavy metal since their rise to stadium-rock status in the early '70s. To request an interview with Roger Glover (based in the U.S.), or other members of the band based in Europe - Ian Gillan (vocals), Jon Lord (keyboards), Ian Paice (drums), or Steve Morse (guitar) - please call Cathy Williams at Rhino Media Relations. Based on schedules, additional interviews may be possible with Glenn Hughes (bass), Joe Satriani (guitar), and David Coverdale (vocals). For more info, contact http://www.rhino.com/ |
