This silly studio demo from July 1972, with Jon Lord on vocals and piano, was earmarked for the Who Do We Think We Are Remastered Edition CD in 2000, but left off at Jon Lord's request. Smoke On The Water Mk 2 (Blackmore/Gillan/Glover/Lord/Paice): from Machine Head. Quadrophonic remix version [6.38] vs [5.40] was released on The Anthology album in 1985, but not on the 1991 CD re-issue of that album. The quad remix was released on Listen Learn Read On 6CD box set in 2002. The original album version was remixed [6.18] vs [5.40] by Roger Glover in 1997 and released on the 25th Anniversary Edition of Machine Head. An edited version of the original album track [3.48] vs [5.40] was released as a single in 1972/73. This edit was released on the German Child In Time CD compilation in 1995. Speed King Mk 2 (Blackmore/Gillan/Glover/Lord/Paice): from In Rock. Roger Glover remixed Speed King in 1995 and this was released on In Rock Anniversary Edition. See also The Woffle and Kneel And Pray. A few versions of this classic track exist, so here goes: Early days It started out life as a song called Ricochet with different lyrics, then renamed Kneel And Pray and finally evolved into Speed King. A BBC version of Speed King was recorded 31 October 1969, which still included some Kneel And Pray lyrics, and was finally released on the Listen Learn Read On 6CD box set in 2002. A live performance can be found on Kneel & Pray. Demo or "piano" version A demo version was recorded in October 1969 which featured Jon Lord on piano and has come to be known as the "piano version". It was released as a single in Holland in 1970, and on a Mexican EP in 1979. First album release was on Singles A's & B's in 1978. It can be found on the following CDs: Singles A's & B's from 1988, the French Smoke On The Water - The Best Of and In Rock Anniversary Edition. A "Roger Glover matching mix" was released as a single in 1995 with Black Night (Glover's Remix). With or without the woffle The intro bit (known as The Woffle) was edited off some releases.
