Excerpts from this song appeared during Space Truckin' on the 1974 and 1975 tours. Dead Or Alive Mk 2b (Blackmore/Gillan/Glover): from The House Of Blue Light. Slightly edited on vinyl version of this album [4.44] vs [5.00]. Edited version released on Progression CD. Performed live in Milan, Italy on 4 September 1987 with a blues intro. This live version was released on vinyl and CD single with Hush '88 and on the cassette version (only) of Nobody's Perfect. Eventually released on the 1999 CD re-issue of Nobody's Perfect and also on the On The Road live compilation 4CD box set. Dealer Mk 4 (Bolin/Coverdale): from Come Taste The Band. Demon's Eye Mk 2 (Blackmore/Gillan/Glover/Lord/Paice): from Fireball. Replaced on US version of Fireball by Strange Kind Of Woman. Released as the b-side of the Fireball single. Remixed in 1996 and released on the Anniversary Edition of Fireball. Difficult To Cure Mk 2 (Beethoven, arranged by Blackmore/Glover/Airey): originally an instrumental studio track by Rainbow in 1981, this reworking of Beethoven's 9th Symphony is also sometimes known as The Song Of Joy. In live performance it was often followed by a Jon Lord keyboard solo which usually included Beethoven's Für Elise. Can be found on: Knebworth '85 and Come Hell Or High Water video/DVD (but listed as Beethoven). Doing It Tonight Mk 8 (Airey/Gillan/Glover/Morse/Paice): from Bananas Don't Hold Your Breath Mk 7 (Gillan/Glover/Lord/Morse/Paice): from Purpendicular sessions. Released as a bonus track on Japanese and US releases of Purpendicular (after 10 seconds of silence). Don't Let Go Mk 8: from Rapture Of The Deep. Don't Make Me Happy Mk 7 (Gillan/Glover/Lord/Morse/Paice): from Abandon. Drifter Mk 4 (Bolin/Coverdale): from Come Taste The Band. A demo rehearsal sequence and first demo version can be found on Days May Come And Days May Go. A second demo version was released on 1420 Beachwood Drive. Live version released on This Time Around. Drums/Finale Mk 2 (Lord): third movement from Gemini Suite Live. Drum Solo All (Paice): Ian Paice, the only founder member still in the band (as of January 2004), features in a number of places, but his drum solos are hardly ever listed on album covers. Drum solos can be found during some live versions of Paint It Black, Lazy, The Mule, Smoke On The Water, You Fool No One, The Unwritten Law and Speed King. Also during the Third Movement of the Concerto For Group And Orchestra and of course on Drums from Gemini Suite Live. EEmmarettaMk 1 (Lord/Blackmore/Evans): recorded in January 1969 during sessions for the third album, titled simply Deep Purple. Released as a single with Wring That Neck on the b-side. In the US the b-side was the demo version of Bird Has Flown. First album release was Mark I & II and first CD release was on Singles A's and B's in 1988. Released on Deep Purple Remastered in February 2000. Also recorded at a BBC session on 14 January 1969 and finally (officially) released on Deep Purple Remastered in February 2000. Evil Louie Mk 7 (Gillan/Glover/Lord/Morse/Paice): from Abandon. Exposition / We Can Work It Out Mk 1 (Blackmore/Lord/Simper/Paice) / (Lennon/McCartney): from The Book Of Taliesyn. Exposition is based on Tchaikovsky's Fantasy Overture to Romeo and Juliet. FFault Line / The PainterMk 1 (Lord/Blackmore/Paice/Simper) / (Lord/Blackmore/Evans/Paice/Simper): from Deep Purple. Sometimes listed as 2 separate tracks. The Painter was recorded for a BBC session on the 24 June 1969 and released (eventually) on Deep Purple Remastered in 2000. Hey Bop A Re Bop is an early version of The Painter with different lyrics about somebody named "Gloria". Fingers To The Bone Mk 7 (Gillan/Glover/Lord/Morse/Paice): from Abandon. A live version recorded in Romania in 1998 was released on Around The World 1995 - 1999 video. Fire, Ice And Dynamite Mk 5 (Blackmore/Glover/Turner): recorded during the Slaves And Masters sessions, but without Jon Lord, as the title track for a Roger Moore movie. Released on the Fire, Ice And Dynamite soundtrack in 1990. Fire In The Basement Mk 5 (Blackmore/Glover/Turner/Lord/Paice): from Slaves And Masters. Fireball (Blackmore/Gillan/Glover/Lord/Paice): from Fireball. Released as a single with Demon's Eye (UK) or Anyone's Daughter (US) on the b-side. An instrumental demo version, Fireball Take 1, was released on the Anniversary Edition of Fireball. A studio out-take with ad-libbed vocals by Ian Gillan was remixed by Roger Glover in 1996, and eventually released on Listen Learn Read On 6CD box set in 2002. Live versions released on Live At The Rotterdam Ahoy and Perihelion DVD. Fortune Teller Mk 5 (Blackmore/Glover/Turner/Lord/Paice): from Slaves And Masters. Freedom Mk 2 (Blackmore/Gillan/Glover/Lord/Paice): demo recorded during Fireball sessions. Released on The Anthology album in 1985. Remixed by Roger Glover and released on Anniversary Edition of Fireball in 1996 and on Shades (1968-1998) in 1999. Für Elise Mk 2 & 4 (Ludwig von Beethoven, arranged by Lord): Often used by Jon Lord during his solo spots, but not normally listed on CD covers. Can be found during Jon Lord's solo on This Time Around, Nobody's Perfect (as part of the intro to Knocking At Your Back Door) and during Beethoven from Come Hell Or High Water video/DVD. GGeorgia On My MindMk 4 (Hoagy Carmichael/Stuart Gorrell): vocal snippet during Smoke On The Water on 1975 and 1976 tours. Appears on This Time Around and On The Wings Of A Russian Foxbat. Grabsplatter (Blackmore/Gillan/Glover/Lord/Paice): instrumental jam recorded 23 September 1970 at a BBC session. Released on New, Live And Rare Volume 3 EP in 1980 and on The Anthology album in 1985. Guitar Parade Mk 7 (Morse/Various): on the 1999 tour Steve Morse started doing a short medley of well-known riffs before launching into Smoke On The Water. The collection of songs he's quoted from has been getting broader all the time.
