Prince Blackmore...I hope more DP albums get this thorough treatment! Once I popped this DVD in last night, I was absolutely mesmerized. Everyone in the band has an equal say as to how the tracks came together, but apparently they were too 'Lazy' to mention a certain bluesy track on side two. Still, even the diehards will learn something new, and it's so much fun to see Jon play his Hammond through a Marshall amp, Roger play the bass solo to Pictures Of Home, and Ritchie play his riffs on an acoustic guitar. It was also a delight to see Martin Birch (has he retired from producing?), Chris Charlesworth, Chris Welch, and Brad Tolinksi of Guitar World offer their thoughts. My favorite part would be the live performances from the May 1973 show at Hofstra University, where although Gillan was a month away from leaving, he still gives his all, while Ritchie plays the entire Smoke riff with his thumb (ouch!) and the audience really gets into it all. Could someone please release this whole show? [Petition forms coming up! Rasmus] The promos for Black Night and Never Before are quite goofy, but at least Blackmore strikes several silly, Prince-like poses for the camera in Never Before which have to be seen to be believed. If there are any drawbacks, the back lists the DVD as running about 100 minutes. The main documentary is about 50 minutes, but there's no way the bonus features are another 50 minutes long. I would dare put the total running time at 75 minutes. Oh well, I watched it twice last night and once this morning. I sincerely hope DP can do this sort of thing for some other important albums in their career, like Burn, Perfect Strangers, Purpendicular, or Slaves And Masters. He he...
