Distorted Bananas
To me Bananas is "Machine Head" transfered
into the 21st century.
It took me some time to get used to the "new
sound" but after a few runs I like it a lot. The drums seem a little flat
to me but that's a matter of taste. The sound generally is more 70's style but
that's ok for me. It's definitely slower and less hard than Abandon which I
didn't like at
all (mostly because of the sound which reminds me of some demos I heard years
ago, sorry Rog!)
There is some distortion in places on the German
CD version. I talked to Michael Bradford about it and he explained something
must have gone wrong in the duplication plant. The masters left the studio without
any problem. He's currently trying to get to the bottom of it. Looks like it's
up to EMI. It's fine if you hear it through usual speakers, but don't dare use
headphones! Has anybody checked out the vinyl version? Same problem?
