Goose bumps

Bananas is pure joy to listen to... musically. After a week of intense listening I'm ready to say they've really made a superb job with this. It's fun, heavy, loose, inventive... I could go on. The icing on the cake is Ian's singing. He really shines with his sense of rythm, phrasing, melody, lyrics and ability to get you hooked by varying his lines so it never gets repetitive. No other Purple-connected singer comes close... not many others either.

It was so sad when Jon left and I couldn't imagine anyone coming close to filling his shoes. But Don Airey's input here is absolutely amazing. For me to say Jon isn't missed here (well, of course he is in one sense, the best player ever...) is something I never thought would happen.

I was really touched by Purpendicular, unmoved by Abandon and now sitting here with goosebumps listening to Bananas...
