The 1980 Bogus Deep Purple Episode
A
curiously dim-witted attempt by Rod Evans (the original vocalist) to launch
a group which he called The New Deep Purple! He assembled 4 nameless Americans
after Nicky Simper (the original bassist) refused to be drawn into the
fraud. Deep Purple's quick-thinking management placed an advert in the
LA Times announcing that certain members of Deep Purple would not
be appearing at the Long Beach Arena.

"Sounds" magazine in September 1980 published an excellent review
