About this CD...
"Jazz Tribute to Deep Purple" is a tribute CD from a French group - the Air Jazz Quartet - which was recorded in 1995. It's very different from any other DP tribute album. It also appears that it's now almost impossible to find it in the shops. However, you can still order it direct from the label. These pages have been produced with the blessing of Alain Rabiat, the manager of the production company behind the CD. This is what he says in the CD notes.... "This morning, I woke up with the strange feeling that I'd been dreaming that Deep Purple, the mythical band, who invented Hard Rock, had just recorded a jazz album and it sounded like thunder. They played all their greatest hits with Ritchie Blackmore on sax! A real Nirvana! I was not very surprised, since they've always been an avant-garde band recording many albums full of classical, soul funk and blues influences. One moment later, the telephone was ringing. "Hello...it's Tommy Bolin, I'm calling from the other side of the galaxy to tell you that I just heard a fantastic band playing Deep Purple, but this time in a Smokin' Jazz Feel. Please, record them quickly, everybody will be swinging on earth." No sooner said than done, my dream has become a reality. Ladies and gentlemen, I'm proud to present to you the Jazz standards of Deep Purple." Alain is most definitely a Deep Purple fan - he was at the Paris show at which LATO was recorded, and he thinks that LATO itself is great! |
