Become a DJ down under
Mark O’Neill from Australia writes to us:
I do a national rock show on community radio and also 3 nights of programming on 94.7 The Pulse. I’m looking for someone to do a weekly Purple pre-recorded show.
The only prerequisite (besides the Purple knowledge) is fluent English. Interested parties are advised to contact Mark directly at raisedonrock@gmail.com.
Gregster, &/or MacGregor, go for it! This is the break that you’ve been waiting for all your lives. Your listeners await you with baited breath….
November 15th, 2024 at 03:32Just across the pond too John, from Geelong in southern Victoria to northern Tasmania. My health is up & down at present, however I did think about it & checked out their web site & all. Plus I don’t have & don’t really know the Morse era as well as others may, so it would be unfair to not include a full history of DP. Purpendicular & Now What are the only two I have on cd. Thirty two years ago I did a 90 minute ‘classic rock’ segment on a community radio on the far north coast of NSW. An old lighthouse was setup by these people & it was very enjoyable to do that. Also my late father was a ‘radio announcer’ throughout the 1960’s, so it is in the blood. If I could just get this damn body of mine back the where it used to be a few years ago. Cheers.

Well, if it’s pre-recorded I’m sure Uwe could do it from Germany.
November 15th, 2024 at 11:21Gregster could do a weekly “Glenn Hughes-one-minute-hate” with a selection of live screams from the 70s and people calling in to voice their disgust. And Reverend MacGregor, that “more cloth crusader”, could muse on “Rock’n’Roll & Proper Attire”.
November 15th, 2024 at 14:50“A little bit of Heaven, 94.7, KMET, Tweedle-Dee!” Oh, sorry. Flashback to the late 70’s, early 80’s Rock Radio in L.A. California.
November 15th, 2024 at 17:14Sounds like a great thing, and I am sure that some of you guys would do a bang up job of it. I think that it would be a lot of fun while it lasted. Would love to do something like that myself, but I don’t have the equipment to make it happen. If anyone here does try out, by all means keep us posted!

November 15th, 2024 at 22:49I’m so sorry to hear you’re not well 🥺
Yo,
@1…
Thanks for the suggestion, as Geelong was my home-town once-upon-a-time, I was born there…Today, you could think of it as an outer suburb of Melbournetown the urban spread is so great !
I also think that the amount of Mk-IV stuff I’d play would see me fired, combined with too much SM era stuff too, (not to mention JLT or Mk-!).
Why play stuff people already know quite well ???…
I can assure you of a couple of harder-core DP people I know that live in Geelong that are even worse than Leiber Uwe in their enthusiasm, that would get the job done better than myself.
Good to see recognition & want of DP in my home state of Victoria !

November 16th, 2024 at 00:01@2 & 8, You guys have put me in mind of the DP track MTV from ROTD:

November 17th, 2024 at 15:4230+ years ago I was asked to do a guest DJ job stint at the college radio as a way of inttoducing new faculy through music I filled the hour with just four songs plus banter with my host in between.
Deep Purple – Lazy
November 18th, 2024 at 07:24Iron Butterfly – In-a-gadda-da-vida
Black Sabbath – Into the Void
The Doors – The End.
@ 10- that is a good starting list from that era. At least you may have had plenty of listeners, unlike my experience in that old refurbished lighthouse on a rocky headland in a small coastal village & also at night time. We always joked about how many people would actually be listening to all this, ha ha ha. However that didn’t dim our enthusiasm at all, it was all very enjoyable. Maybe a few whales passing by heard a note or two & enjoyed it, I don’t know. Cheers.
November 18th, 2024 at 22:07Yo,
@10…Great stuff ! So what did you play for the 2nd set ???…
