August 26th, 2024 at 09:51@2: exactly! That was my main complaint about the Chicago show last Friday. I had trouble making out the synth solos in the new songs, even though I knew what to expect.
August 29th, 2024 at 02:00That is unusual with Don, generally these days his keyboards are prominent to even dominating (especially in the last decade of Steve‘s tenure) in the mix. Simon just cuts through more with his sound which is a lot less processed than Steve‘s.
And you can also tell that Don is chuffed that “his” Simon (whom he initially discovered for the Don Airey Band at a rock & blues neighborhood festival Don helped organize) now holds the position of being the DP guitarist and does it so well. Don is happy to let the new kid shine. It really is quite a sweet “rags to riches” story given the fact that it is not that long ago that Simon (unsuccessfully) sought a job outside of music to make ends meet.
