Smoke on the Bayou
What if Deep Purple were a Delta Blues band…
Thanks to Justin Johnson for this little gem, and to Hein B. for bringing it to your attention.

December 15th, 2021 at 22:07Very well done. A one man band in a way. Maybe that style doesn’t allow for a solo.
December 15th, 2021 at 22:17Well played, thanks. Cheers.
December 15th, 2021 at 23:08This is a really nice version. When Steve Morse joined purple he and Roger (possibly the whole band) were on a radio show, I think it took place in South Africa (I’m not really sure). Somewhere I have a cassette recording of the show. They did an acoustic version of Knocking On Your Back Door. What I remember about it was when Steve played the riff, he gave it a southern twang, somewhat similiar to what Justin Johnson is doing to SOTW.

December 16th, 2021 at 10:18@6 And they did a super version of King of Dreams too! In SA yes.
December 16th, 2021 at 17:07A perfect balance of being true to the original but making it your own.
December 17th, 2021 at 03:52@10 That was a different interview, but I agree with you, that was a super version of King of Dreams. JLT used to have that version on his website, I’m not sure if it is still posted.
