Live performance is the only thing that matters
A vintage interview with our ever so thoughtful Roger Glover, originally published in New Musical Express on October 14, 1972. Roger talks about some side project with Big Ian he’s working on (wonder what had happened to it), the impending release of Made in Japan, and wonders why the British press and radio do not like rock bands. In his opinion, this has the unintended consequences of:
You’ve either got to go for music that Radio One will play, which means producing drivel. Or you’re gonna say, ‘Forget it, we’re just gonna do what we really want to do’. And that’s why the English bands who make that choice are completely unrestrained. They’re very exciting. They don’t care — they don’t care about anything. The live performance is the only thing that matters because it’s the only thing they’ve got. That’s the only thing that’s gonna sell their records. That’s how Deep Purple made it.
Sounds familiar in certain ways, eh?

Thanks to Geir Myklebust for all his hard work of scanning and posting this.
Roger & Ian’s side project material may have went into later albums, such as The Butterfly Ball, Elements, or whatever. Cherkazoo?… Accidentally On Purpose?…
Ideas often get recycled & reused, that’s just how it is. I combined the SOTW riff with the All Night Long riff. It sounds… interesting!. 🎸🎵🎶 😁
