Six String Salute
Six String Salute was a virtual concert held on September 17 to support all the crew members who found themselves out of their jobs due to the pandemic. One of the numbers featured there was a “progressive arrangement” of Stormbringer done by Joel Hoekstra on guitar, Dino Jelusić (Animal Drive, Trans-Siberian Orchestra) on vocals, Virgil Donati (a card-carrying member of the Ian Paice Appreciation Society) on the drums, and Tony Franklin (who played with everybody and their dogs) on bass. Here it is, with a beatific smile from Mr. Hoekstra:
The whole event (if you have 2+ hours to spare):
Thanks to Akemi Ono for the heads up.
Great!!!
September 19th, 2020 at 17:34Awesome, you guys rock! Thanks for sharing your talent.
September 19th, 2020 at 22:24It’s OTT alright, but all participants operate skillfully and with vigor. Probably also the first time in the history of man that Stormbringer was performed with a fretless bass (and a fretless bass solo!). Good fun.

Great ! But you call this “a Progressive arrangement” ??? Mon Dieu!! .. and in the other hand , this vocalist would be a great replacement for Ian Gillan.. Great voice , new blood, new ideas..
September 21st, 2020 at 17:17errol arias: we didn’t call it that, it’s a quote from hoekstra.
September 21st, 2020 at 18:44Very good great Vocalist and guitar player percussion too
Greetings from Poland want to see Deep Purple and U live concerts 2021 hope pandemic ended.
September 22nd, 2020 at 10:13That song was never among the most cerebral of DP compositions to put it mildly. Always sounded like a speeded up Sabbath tune to me, could even picture Ozzy doing Coverdale’s vocal line (which is rather untypical of the former Redcar resident). Lady Doubledealer, not the brainiest number either, at least had that Beatlish “I gave love to you …”-bridge to lighten things up.
Stormbringer (the song) sounds a bit like DP must sound to people who actually dislike Purple, perceiving them (falsely) as brainless. There is something Wayne’s World’ish to it. : – )
I’ve heard it’s a very popular number in America though! ; – )
September 23rd, 2020 at 13:07@10 I’m sure most “Americans” do not think of DP as brainless, quite the opposite actually, just some of the people that post here ; – )
September 25th, 2020 at 09:34Dino Jelusić and Animal Drive were the front group for the Whitesnake last year in Zagreb. They were great.
September 29th, 2020 at 08:17FANtastic! One of the best DP covers I’ve heard in a while.
