This is real chill song
Take a break from all the promotional hoopla surrounding the impending release of the new album, and watch some random dude listening to Deep Purple (Child in Time from Granada TV, no less) for the very first time in his life. It’s good for a chuckle or three on that lazy Sunday afternoon.
Bonus hot off the press: same dude digs deeper into Purple family archives with Stargazer:
Thanks to Milan Fahrnholz for bringing this to your attention.
I thinks it´s just nice too see how much he eventually enjoys it. And his observations about the studio audience are also still spot on.
Same goes for the Rainbow video, he´s got a lot of fun with that, real nice.

March 10th, 2017 at 21:02I’ve been thinking about this. I was in my early twenties (which I’m guessing is how old this guy is) in the late-eighties/early nineties. If I did the same thing he did… listen to music 47 years old… in 1992, that would be 1945. Perry Como, Johnny Mercer, Nat King Cole, the Andrews Sisters, Bing Crosby… Glenn Miller… I doubt I would have had the same upbeat reaction he did to Deep Purple. Django Reinhardt, Dizzy Gillespie, okay, yeah, I would like that, but the rest of that stuff… no. 47 years after “Child in Time” came out, we’ve still got rock n’ roll. I think that’s pretty freaking amazing.
March 10th, 2017 at 22:46He’ll have to change his underpants now!. Lol.
March 10th, 2017 at 22:51Child In Time is “chilled… relaxing”?!?
I guess he could listen to The Carpenters if he wants to crank up the volume and rock out.
I’m not convinced that he’s listening to Child In Time for the first time!
March 10th, 2017 at 23:08Good point :))))
March 10th, 2017 at 23:19This is great! I had the same reaction when I first heard Child In Time 38 years ago.
March 10th, 2017 at 23:21…and I just had it again , right now!
Awesome!!!!
Oh my god, it happened again with Stargazer!!

March 11th, 2017 at 11:28Found this so inspiring to see a young man blown away at hearing these truly great songs for the very first time. Class is, after all, permanent.

March 11th, 2017 at 13:38Child In Time from the Granada TV Show in 1970, Ian Gillan in the form of his life. That vocal performance in particular is one of the best I’ve ever heard from Ian, if not the very best. What a great range, tone and timbre he had at that time. Not even Robert Plant or Freddy Mercury could touch him, it’s simply outstanding and powerful. Sadly the song became a show-off at concerts and later on it started to sound terrible because he had to push himself very hard to reach those top notes which after some time became a heavy burden. On Made in Japan Ian didn’t sound as good as here, by far. Apart from that I was always in favour of the sound of the band at that time. Ritchie still playing his Gibson ES335 and Jon on the verge of switching from the Leslies to the straight Marshall amplification. Truely a magical time it was!
