Budokan filmed
[Confirmed] As soon as the band got off the stage at Budokan in Tokyo on April 12, rumours started circulating that the gig was professionally filmed. As said rumours are coming from all the sides now, we feel we should report it.
If any of our readers can confirm this first hand (as in “I was there and I saw the cameras”), please leave a comment.

April 14th, 2014 at 20:41It’s easy to tell.. Were there cameras set up?
April 14th, 2014 at 20:44I can’t get enough must have-please come soon to Austria!
April 14th, 2014 at 20:51Many, as well as the mounted gear.
April 14th, 2014 at 20:52son unos verdaderos maestros del hard rock, espero verlos pronto en Buenos Aires!!.
April 14th, 2014 at 21:16I found this on youtube. . . . It is clear that the camera in the scene looks pretty profesional.
April 14th, 2014 at 21:23I know, the sound it’s horrible, but the camera is the star for now

…yeah, my favorites! l
April 14th, 2014 at 21:27A guy (who was there) on the tweeter posted a pic of what looks like a camera crane…

April 14th, 2014 at 21:30Yes, I was there! And yes there were cameras filming at stage level.
April 14th, 2014 at 21:41Excellent
April 14th, 2014 at 23:32Glad to see five songs from Now What?! in there. Wish they brought something from Purpendicular back though.
April 14th, 2014 at 23:39In this video of the concert (with dreadful sound, mind you), at 18 seconds and onwards you can see a camera that’s way too fancy for a regular concert. Guess that’s a clue we’re getting a new live dvd soon:

April 14th, 2014 at 23:41Hope that setlist survives thru the North American summer tour.
April 14th, 2014 at 23:56I’d like to see Uli do a tour with the band. This is a band of challenges and when you can recover from the loss of the Lord into a great machine. Part of the greatness of the formation of Whitesnake was to replace a guitar player with 2 was brilliant, even for the singer.
April 15th, 2014 at 03:10Replacing songs 2, 3, and 4 with anything from the Morse era would have made this an essential purchase. I can’t watch the most recent DVD with the orchestra without skipping the In Rock songs at the beginning. Yikes, it’s painful watching Gillan try to hit those notes.
April 15th, 2014 at 03:33Damn!! For one moment there I thought this was something important and historic like some good news on the illusive MIJ footage 🙁
April 15th, 2014 at 06:25@15: That’s exactly what I feel everytime I’m watching recent lives… Gillan suffering and not succeeding on high notes is painful! As he becomes older they should lower more songs like PS.
It would be quite a nice thing to have a 2014 version of MIJ! Of course, not with the same songs! =)
April 15th, 2014 at 07:39I hope to see a concert where they have dropped Black Night, Space Truckin, Hard Lovin’ Man
April 15th, 2014 at 07:41Strange Kind of Woman and Hush. There are a bunch of great songs on Purpendicular and Now What?! to be added to the set list.
when,When,WHEN??????????????
April 15th, 2014 at 11:11Do we really need another MkMorse DVD? And what about Wacken? It was also filmed as announced for a DVD release. The only reason for me to buy another DP DVD would be if they were performing entire Now What album.
April 15th, 2014 at 11:25To many (myself included) the Mark II Purple were the ultimate line up, however all marks have their credibility and I for one am glad all were, and this line up still is, delivering hard rock at its very best, long may it continue.
April 15th, 2014 at 12:29Totally agree with some of the comments on here. Mkii was the best line up but times change. Mkii will never be able to perform again so instead of constant criticism get out and actually listen to some of the other stuff. Now What! is the best Purple album for many years and ranks alongside all the other classic albums. Also remember that Steve Morse has been a member of the band for longer than Mr Blackmore ever was.
April 15th, 2014 at 12:48I was at the concert at Tokyo Budokan and the concert was filmed. At least 3 cameras maybe more was working during the concert. One camera on a “long moving arm”. Before the concert we saw a video bus parked outside the venue with a lot of cables from the bus into the arena.
April 15th, 2014 at 12:55@ #22 : you are absolutely right !
April 15th, 2014 at 18:38I’m still waiting the Verona 2011 dvd
April 15th, 2014 at 19:14The title of the last album “Now What?! is the epitome of this conversation, fans and people would never agree and have the same taste.5-6 years ago when Purple were playing a lot of The Rapture of The deep songs, people were screaming for more In rock and Fireball and now they want other stuff! That shows the body of work and the diverse music and albums that this band has put out throughout their history. The band is going to play what they feel in the end, with classic stuff along from MK2 period,so get used people and stop complaining.
cheers
April 15th, 2014 at 19:49I respect this lineup of dp as well as the musical abilities of airey and morse, but regardless of how long they’ve been in the band, blackmore and lord will always be better musicians and the heart of deep purple in my opinion.
April 15th, 2014 at 20:55I wish they would include “A Simple Song” in their setlist. It’s one of my favorites from their latest album.
April 15th, 2014 at 21:19Yeah!! I expect a great live cd/dvd of this legendary show!! Purple roxx!!
April 15th, 2014 at 23:17Apparently the show was filmed professionally for a later in the year cd/dvd/bluay format. Saw them last year in
April 16th, 2014 at 02:31Australia supporting Journey, as we were only 7 rows from the front, i guarantee you i have never heard anything so loud in a long long time, would not have it any other way.
i remember being at the Birmingham NEC show in 2002 where Gillan stopped the filming from camerman at the very front. I didnt see any other camera about, but then came out on Around The World dvd.
April 16th, 2014 at 09:31Take out Into the fire and add Smooth dancer, take out Lazy and add Flight of the rat and take out Black night and add Highway star. That to me would make this a great set list. I’ve got nothing against Into, Lazy or Black but I’ve seen them quite a bit over the years.
April 16th, 2014 at 10:26I want this NOW! How and when can I order it. The Morse variant of Deep Purple has been together 20-years CONTINUOUS now — Longer even than TMIB’s tenure. This is a consistent and relevant variant of the the band. Don Airey is a GREAT replacement for the GREAT JON LORD.
April 16th, 2014 at 13:03Wonderful setlist, crossing my fingers for a Blu ray release soon! 🙂
