Doogie White: “I like to work with people whom I enjoy”
Last summer Doogie White did this very interesting interview for MetalTalk.net. The bulk of it revolved around his work with two of the great guitar players, who have quite a reputation of being difficult: Ritchie Blackmore and Michael Schenker, and he didn’t have a single bad word to say about either of them. He also spoke about Tank, La Paz, Demon’s Eye, and some other projects. Busy fella! And very down to earth.

Thanks to Mark Taylor for the info.
I met Doogie in the crowd, actually the lobby of a Rainbow show. Nobody knew who he was. They just knew what Blackmore looked like. Me and my buddy Jon approached him and we ended up talking for about 15-20 minutes. Mainly about Deep Purple and what it was like to work with RB. Doogie was so gracious and just like this interview did not have a bad thing to say about anybody.
I think he is one of the only people who could pull of singing all the Rainbow singers before him and not sound silly doing so.
Very respected musician in my book.

February 6th, 2014 at 23:01I’ll be seeing Doogie tomorrow evening – great guy, and kicking big ass on the current Schenker tour.
February 7th, 2014 at 00:17I had always felt the Dio era of Rainbow might have been challenged somewhat by the Doogie White era, had this line up had a chance to produce a few more albums. Stranger in Us All was a very very good album …
February 7th, 2014 at 01:15I’m about to see Doogie with Schenker here in Oakland, California in just an hour or so!
February 7th, 2014 at 03:35I met doogie in the late nineties when he was fronting a band called the Barnstormers. Great man, very nice to chat to and not a bad word to say about any of the musicians he has worked with. And he can sing too!
February 8th, 2014 at 17:22Great singer and good vibe guy!!!!This is the man.
February 9th, 2014 at 17:28@6 Enjoy the show! I too am in CA but am not going to make it. I have met Michael 3 times now and he is a great person. He still delivers live and is one of my top 3 Guitarists (with Ritchie and Uli)!
February 10th, 2014 at 17:53I met Doogie just before Rainbow played at Jackhamer’s in Schamberg, IL. 1997.
February 13th, 2014 at 05:43He was just walking around the place and I told my buddy, “hey that’s the singer of Rainbow” So I go back to my car to get my copy of Strangers In Us All cd and had him sign it for me. He was really nice and friendly.
Great show.
Next to Roger Glover, this guy is the most humble musician I have heard speak. Just a joy to listen to. Even when he talks about how he was given full reign as the singer with Rainbow by TMIB at the initial onset of forming the new line-up, and then when Candice came into the picture he was restricted some and she influenced the album more than he did. He was shooting for a cross between Burn and Rising. With Candice in the mix it wound up as a stepping stone to BN instead. Great album IMHO but I wish Doogie got his desire met, just as I wish there was a follow up. Would love to see it happen some day soon. “Rise of the Burning Rainbow”……

February 18th, 2014 at 06:55Always nice to have dreams but he is too old now Tracy.
February 24th, 2014 at 21:00PP @12;
Who is too old? Not everybody feels their age as you do PP. These guys still have it. It all hinges on the desire. Purple proved that with ‘Now What’. TMIB and Doogie are the perfect combo for a Burn/Rising style album. Problem isn’t age. It’s the Boss Lady taking TMIB’s pants and giving him her green Tights. If he would just sneak into her closet and retrieve his black pants and then sneak into a studio with Doogie and throw down some tracks…. Yeah, I am dreaming aren’t I?
