Lost in Cambridge
Apparently Don Airey performed at the Cambridge Rock Festival in UK on August 5; the date that unfortunately slipped under our radar. In consolation, we offer you this video of his band delivering a blistering performance of Lost in Hollywood:

September 5th, 2012 at 12:43That was pretty great. LIH has always been a favorite of mine. Throw in a nicely played bit of LIB and how can you go wrong. Love to hear old Blackers play that guitar bit though…. 🙂
September 5th, 2012 at 14:32You know Rasmus, throwing in of “A Light In The Black” bit into “Lost In Hollywood” was a concept developed by Ritchie and used on the DTE 1979-80 Tour and DTC Tour in 1981. So it’s basically an old trick Don played in Rainbow live shows.
September 6th, 2012 at 06:47I was at this gig and the entire band was excellent. They had the crowd in raptures and played a blistering set. And Carl Sentance’s vocals blew me away, he was phenomenal. They also did a superb tribute to Jon and Gary Moore – “Child In Time” that segued into “Parisienne Walkways”, then back in to “Child In Time” and it had the hairs on the back of my neck standing up. Carl did a fabulous job on the vocals on a song which is not easy to sing. I’ve seen vocalists from Purple tirbute bands massacre it, but Carl more than did justice to it. Catch this band if you can, it is a great unit.

September 6th, 2012 at 21:29@Jerry Bloom. I was there too and agree with everything you say. They were by far and away the best band of the weekend, why they were only given an afternoon slot way down the bill, I don’t know. I particularly like Rob Harris’ guitar playing, he’s one of the most underrated players out there and is wasted in a band like Jamiroquai. The fact that Don, who has played with many of the best guitarists in history (Gary Moore, Randy Rhodes, Ritchie and more), keeps using him is very telling.
Also, you say they’re a great unit, they hadn’t played together, not even rehearsals, as a full unit before that show, a testament to the musicianship of them all.
Most of the gig is on YouTube, so if poor filming and bad sound quality is your thing then do a search for ‘Don Airey Cambridge Rock Festival 2012’. I’d recommend ‘Gimme Some Lovin’.’ too.
September 7th, 2012 at 09:02As you say the fact that they were under rehearsed just shows how good they are. I was also fortunate to see the warm-up show before the current tour, in Don’s local pub! Although Rob Harris couldn’t make it due to Jamiroquai commitments and Howie G stepped in at short notice, again with virtually no rehearsing. As a result they did several numbers they don’t normally do, but it was another great evening.
