Bob Daisley has posted on Youtube three promo videos for the Long Live Rock’n’Roll album. They all appear to be excellent quality, albeit the band is obviously not playing live (look for Blackmore in his typical fashion barely even pretending to play his parts).

Once you’re at it, be sure to check the rest of Bob Daisley’s Youtube channel — he has more goodies in there, including Jon Lord & The Hooche Coochie Men and Living Loud videos. Although some (all?) of them have previously appeared on DVD, it might inspire you to take it off the shelf and enjoy watching Jon rocking that Hammond like there’s no tomorrow one more time.

I pulled out big on the Rod Evans and Nick simper debate.
While that all must have been discussed thoroughly ages ago and the so called article by Kreckel was gathering dust in the THS archives for that long.
For younger THS readers or so called NEWBIES it still IS educating, I suppose.
We HAVE a choice.
Keep on analysing old stuff untill wed drop death or take a hike.
Probably we old junkies cant leave it alone and younger generations are as intrigued as we are.

August 27th, 2010 at 13:13Yes we’ve seen them before but they are the best quality I’ve seen so far. RJD’s vocals are not mimed – or at least they’re not the same vocals as on the album – and the versions are interesting for that if nothing else. LLRnR would have been an excellent encore if they’d played it straight as it’s presented here instead of the awful mid set sing-along position it had. LA Connection should have been done live too…… and GoB for that matter.

August 29th, 2010 at 02:39@ number 5. La Connection was done live on the 1978 American tour, it’s on several audience recordings. It was dropped after a while though. But I agree, they should’ve done “Gates” too. (and Tarot Woman, Run with the wolf..and so on..but now we’re on a different album of course..)

Ritchie launches into the ‘Man on t’ Silver Man’tin’ (As I once heard a yorkshire pronounce it!) at the Birmingham Odeon sometime in 197Dot?
As soon as the band kicks in, Ritchie raises his hand to silence them – points at Jimmy Bain, puts his hand to his ear, then with his palm upward, gestures to Jimmy that something needs to go up. A red faced Bass player slowly turns his Machine Head (Tuner) whilst plucking his bottom string looking to Ritchie to tell him when the thing sounded in tune – just a little more was indicated by Ritchie’s hand now doing a Fish out of water impression. All done to the Maestro’s satisfaction – the song was started again!
As well as sharing in the invention of British ‘Hard Rock’ (Heavy Metal Didn’t exist then – Don’t get me started!!! HEAVY was a term originally applied to what is now described as ‘Prog Rock’ [& sometimes Folk] as it required some Heavy listening as in concentration to understand the lyrics or complex song structure – believe me I was there! Now see what you’ve gone & done!! I didn’t intend to mention that) Ritchie appears to have invented his own sign language for band members.
I’d forgotten this until the synapses were triggered by the visual stimuli presented above.
Great to see.
Seeing the obvious divergence between Ritchie’s finger positions & the recorded track – I can only conclude that like Frank Zappa, Ritchie was writing the next album whilst the current material was being recorded? We can only wonder!
As somebody once said in a Mock Horror ‘Fangs for the Mammary’ they came flooding back.

August 30th, 2010 at 22:16Quite the contrast to the recent Blackmore’s Night post here on THS. One wouldn’t realize that it’s the same guitarist if they didn’t know better. Odd that LLRnR was to be released on Ritchie’s 33rd birthday back then in honor of the 33 rpm long playing ALBUM!!! And now 33 years later…..LOOK WHAT HE DOES NOW! Either way it’s great we have these historical video’s as a reminder of just how great they all were. Long Live RnR & R.I.P Ronnie & Cozy
