Street of Dreams in St.Petersburg
Nevsky Express TV has published a live video of Street of Dreams from the recent Over The Rainbow gig in St.Petersburg, Russia. The video is rather high quality and appears to be shot with two professional cameras. You can watch it on their web site. Further instructions same as the last time.
Thanks to Tatiana Marshanova for the info.
A couple of things… no matter which version you download, size is the only difference, they all come out the same .mp4 quality. Don’t waste your time with the large size file, grab the small one.
I don’t care for this song live, never did, it’s the same here as in 83-84, too much air behind the chorus, it just doesn’t work for me, it’s flat.
But they seem to be playing well and enjoying theirselves, which somewhere along the line became very important in this business.
Lose the gloves Joe, you aren’t behind the wheel up there, save them for the Mercedes, lol!
February 26th, 2009 at 02:21Will there ever be an Over the Rainbow cover-band?
No.
February 26th, 2009 at 03:41I’d like to see’s me a “GILLAN” cover band for once, but me thinks it wouldn’t be easy, screaming is not the issue, his tone and character are.
February 26th, 2009 at 03:56Well, Joey still has a lot of hair. My mother always said, “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all:)”
February 26th, 2009 at 04:07This is a good, well written commercial song…Thought it would be a big hit single in the 80’s. This was the point when Ritchie was desperate for a big hit in the US. Over the Rainbow are playing it like a pub band however, no fire or sensitivity in the delivery. Even Joe’s vocal is lacklustre…
February 26th, 2009 at 07:38But with Ritchie back in the day it still had little to offer on stage, as I said, too much air, all potatos, no meat.
February 26th, 2009 at 08:17On the album it was nice though, if a bit refined, hey… like Joe.lol!
Nice song anyway – and good performance (Blackmore junior is OK, very nice playing,I liked it). I’d like to see them because this is rare opportunity to see this kind of Rainbow setlist, and seems to me that they doing just fine job.
February 26th, 2009 at 09:26Maybe the gloves match a rubber suit.
Anyone?
February 26th, 2009 at 11:20Although the above OTR-clip is nice, when I compare DP-Gillan-Morse with OTR-JLTurner-Balckmore jr. I prefer the present Deep Purple, but OTR still ok of course.
February 26th, 2009 at 11:59A nice video from Deep Purple at the opening of the 2009 Nordic Ski World Championships at Tipsport Arena, Liberec, Czech Republic, February 18th 2009.
“Highway Star” > Enjoy it :

Joe still does have a quite good voice….The band seems to play well…If only the guitar sound was closer to Ritchies…it suits his songs alot better….It gives some of the meat….I don’t like that distorted sound…even less on this song…
February 26th, 2009 at 12:06Cheers
Agreed CE-Music, though maybe he doesn’t want to be compared to his father to much – therefore he’s escaping from that roaring clean Ritchie sound, which is wrong in this case (covering Rainbow songs, isn’t it – it’s OK after that). Nevertheless, I liked it, solo is short but nice, there is some of Ritchies sensibility, and style is quite good. He’s good guitarist, I’ve heard some of his songs, he shouldn’t be afraid of expressing himself more, not to think what would Ritchie do or will people said that he’s to much like his father (well it’s his dad :-))
February 26th, 2009 at 12:54@4
Dear Ana,
Not one strand of it is his, not that I want to go there, but I thought his condition was common knowledge. Either that or a cruel rumour.
February 26th, 2009 at 14:03Dull………to say the least! Is that a wig JLT,and false teeth??? Ah,well…we can´t escape old age,can we? ROCK ON!
February 26th, 2009 at 16:33Not an age thing, it’s a condition going way back.
February 26th, 2009 at 16:45Sounds okay. As said above JLT’s voice is still in good shape. Don’t like Jr’s sound, too aggressive.
February 26th, 2009 at 17:12Bobby is a good drummer too, in fact he plays better now that he did during the Rainbow days.
I’d be interested in hearing (with a good sound)other tracks than the boring Street of dreams.
@14 a condition going way back back?
His teeth or hair………??? Both??
When does he do the plate spinning???
Whoops…….does that remark qualify for a censorship defcon alert….?
February 26th, 2009 at 17:19I would hate to see what some of you zeros look like in the real–as for me…I’m hot 🙂
February 26th, 2009 at 18:32I don’t like the version of this song…no energy in it…
February 26th, 2009 at 20:52@16
Hair, I don’t look clsely enough to spot the teeth.
@18
Name me one live version that has energy.
February 26th, 2009 at 21:49I can’t say james-jay is hot, but that high heels and dress look is different.
February 26th, 2009 at 23:39This is very well done and superior to the Finyl Vinyl version.
“Street of Dreams” is difficult to do live due to all the embellishments of the studio cut making the live arrangement sound a little thin. They could have gone the tape route for the harmonies or use a bunch of sequencers but elected not to. “Stone Cold” would have the same problem–as we saw with Rainbow back in the day.
That’s what “live” means. If you expect it to be just like the recording, then get out the album.
In places, Joe is practically singing a capella and still he pulls it off. Jürgen’s playing impressed me. Nice touch.
A+.
February 27th, 2009 at 03:39I agree with every word of that, however, if you can’t bring something to it when you perform it live, it will suffer.
February 27th, 2009 at 04:53Perhaps the female singers would have helped, as they did fill some gaps well when I saw them do it twice in 83.
And I don’t expect it to be ‘just like the album’ T, I expect it to be considerably better, or why not just get out the album?
February 27th, 2009 at 06:18One more thing… I traveled from Oregon to Liverpool as a youngster all on my own to see those two horrifying shows in 83, I still can’t stand to look at the pictures I took. Why? Guess who…
February 27th, 2009 at 06:21@21 Exactly–live vs. album will have their differences–I like the imperfections–humanizes the band.
February 27th, 2009 at 12:34mmmhh…
February 27th, 2009 at 14:11there is not pathos and no power, the voice does not pump …it is more than an AOR sound,…so…music is passable..I am sure this band is good and better for other stronger pieces..with more power this band can capture more attention from the fans..
In any case I would like too see them on stage, here in italy, because regardless of the tastes they are great musicians and a good band, for this i think they should make a studio-release.
@20 pretty sure I am NOT your type…I hope… johnny cakes.
February 27th, 2009 at 14:51As for the hair–looks real to me–plus the video needed a little more keyboards–c’mom T-C–let it rip. 🙂
Finally time for a comment…
I read about a possible ‘anti Gillan brigade’ with ugly faces on another blog….This comment becomes really arrogant and ridiculous when I discover here the existance of a real ‘anti JLT- brigade’or even an ‘anti Over the Rainbow brigade’…
The replies of this select group of ‘experts’ have nothing to do anymore about interesting comparisons or experiences … or about fanatic (but tough)pro and contra opinions…
But this has become a true waste of time and good taste reading such cheap an disgusting nonsense.
Of course , I read also honnest replies..good and bad, from fans who are still listening with open mind to the music!
I like Jürgen and I feel a little the same about him as #11 and #21. Especially in ‘Ariel’ where JB is better to hear, he brings sensitive, longer and great playing. He surely does remind of Ritchie. Jürgen is also much preferable to Steve Morse with that ones wanking , mostly overloaded and unchanging sounds and interpretations!
I love also Toni’s playing very much, and he accompanies beautiful. Also the keyboard sound is superb.
Smith and Rondinelli need no explanation , and Bobby still likes to do some funny entertainment with the audience.
Joe ‘s voice has also good and bad days, but in general,it is in nice shape.
Also, although I’m a Gillan fan, imho, Ian’s voice is not in such great shape these days and he sounds often tired. I always will like him, but for me, Joe sounds often stronger , and reaches many times all the tunes more powerfull.
And answering ‘the brigade of the outlook remarks’…well, JLT looks much younger and better to me ,then too old looking Gillan.I even wish Gillan would were that wig or all those nice things written down here before . He should gain some weight too !
Pictures are not always so flattering, and although this has nothing to do with being a good band, Joe looks here sometimes very tired too… but when meetinh him in Alphen am Rhein ,October 2008, he was looking very handsome and cool!( No schmink, no wig, no false teeth or whatever…) , only a natural looking gentleman. He sang great too then!
One has to be honnest! When JLT is tired, he sounds very hoarse…but the same goes for Ian!
I wish OTR a great tour, and I beg they will come to Belgium or close by ! 😉
February 27th, 2009 at 19:40Dear Crimson Ghost, Sorry I did not know he has a condition.
February 27th, 2009 at 23:18FOLKS, COME ON. GIVE ME A BREAK. THERE IS NO ANALIZATION. THIS IS A PAY CHECK. IT SOUNDS LIKE A GARAGE BAND REHEARSAL FOR A CHURCH PICNIC. ALL TRULY GREAT MUSICIANS COLLECTING THE DOUGH. SAD, BUT TRUE. I’M THE ONE EVERYBODY GIVES GRIEF TO FOR SUPPORTING BLACKMORE’S NIGHT WHICH I THINK IS EXTREMELY UNDERRATED, SO YOU KNOW WHERE I’M COMING FROM.
February 28th, 2009 at 05:22Annemie
You crack me up, first you say that it’s the “anti” factor that irritates you… then you slam Morse.
Yawn!
February 28th, 2009 at 08:15@29
I thought it was well known that he cannot grow hair on his head, a condition they ‘say’ he has, of a name I forget.
February 28th, 2009 at 08:18Not that I care, I just thought his fans were well aware of it.
But crimson, I only spoke my thoughts…just as you do…and so often…
It only irritates me, that some ‘cracking up’ goes always straight away, to the same ones , like an easy , self-evident and stupid habit.
I find it hypocrite , when I read about an anti- Gillan brigade, and then reading this (and many other) blog …
I just wanted to give my opinion about this! btw 😉 and then I did not mention yet, what I think of the appearance of Steve morse…but…anyway…
I judge people seldom on their outlooks !
Nice weekend, and cheers 🙂
I agree with #30 about BN ! Still, I do not know where you come from … 🙂
February 28th, 2009 at 11:37Cheers! 🙂
That was NOT a very good version of a very good Rainbow tune!
February 28th, 2009 at 13:44If Bobby R.–JLT–and Tony C. were employed by Blackmore at one time–I would venture to say they have professional talent–therefore OTR is a professional band–not tribute nor garage gig. Unless you all here have a eye for talent better the Mr. Blackmore–remain silent.
February 28th, 2009 at 16:09Me too I don’t consider them a tribute band
because all of them were musicians in Rainbow in the past.
I’d like to see them on stage and I’d like a new work in studio from this band. J.B. is a good image for this band and of course he is talented for this band.
ciao
February 28th, 2009 at 17:43cheers
Nery vice!! Liked how the band played it. Jurgen played it spot on!!
Come to Florida!!!
February 28th, 2009 at 18:48The only good thing about this is Joe looks good for his age & his voice still sounds good. It’s not the classic Rainbow for me , you need Roger on the bass for a start & Ritchie on guitar. Ok it’s his son as close as you can get but it’s not the moody aggresive Blackmore. They should have got Roger Glover’s daughter on backing vocals! This is just a nostalgia act, a bit of fun. If your’e after something worthwile check out Black Sabbaths new album with Dio out soon , it promises to be big. Tony still plays very heavy guitar & Dio’s voice is in great shape . No matter what year Tony makes the songs sound modern , he would have been an excellent replacement for Rithie in 93 if he was avaliable.
March 1st, 2009 at 00:29Cheers Annemie…very well put on post @28!
Take care girl, yours truly
March 1st, 2009 at 16:29i like it…. and u kno wut .. i dident think i would but i like it …. JR is great
March 1st, 2009 at 19:18For what it s worth check out Death Alley Driver by OTR on youtube. Felt like I was listening to Straight Between the Eyes live once again.
March 1st, 2009 at 22:57OK…got carried away there but man I hope these guys come to North America. I grew up on these songs and to hear them again live…albeit by a slightly different cast of characters would be a treat.
I really was looking forward to just ‘hearing’ a bootleg audio recording for myself, and Moscow 2-18 has just surfaced and it’s awesome!!!!!!!!! No shit! High energy and power performance throughout.
March 2nd, 2009 at 05:08Believe that!!!!!!!!!!!! Even this song sounds much better than what this video captured. Glad to have this fine recording. Excellent keyboard work on every song too, very strong playing that keeps the whole thing together.
Hi Sami 🙂

Yes, I got it from this priceless source! 🙂
I had the honour to share a toast with a pirate captain and a kettle binky…
The news spreads fast these days !
Cheers, with Whitbread now 😉
March 2nd, 2009 at 21:54#38 yes, Tony Iommi and Dio are in other league, they still sound heavy with a modern sound.
March 3rd, 2009 at 06:20for gillan the heavy metal is a disgusting thing (I disagree), and there is no room to tony in the present DP, neither ’93 ..
It is interesting to see somebody even able to imagine Mr. Iommi in DP. I can not. Tony is awesome in Sabbs cup of style, but would not be in Purps imho. Apart from his solo spots – he doesn’t like to improvise the solos in the songs, so I don’t think that he could excite playing DP material. He’s got much of the legacy on the Sabbath side and he’s the best just there. New H&H CD can be the release of the year if the material is as strong as the tracks off “The Dio Years”. Can’t wait for it!
March 3rd, 2009 at 08:25ahahah Tony Iommi in DP….
but I’d like another new stuff with Gillan/Iommi: this is sure..
March 3rd, 2009 at 10:51I m not into apples and eggs right now now
March 3rd, 2009 at 12:12Maybe I should take a nap once more….
