Please bring back the good old DP days…………
Well that is impossible, but then bring us DVDs with all these great videos. I have a lot but not all of the in a good shape. I would love to have them on DVD. I cant get enough of the old days (1968-1975)

Why not play No No No instead of Black Night on the remaining gigs of the Rapture of the deep tour?

This got around the net in all the right places faster than anything.

Available in DVD quality for download all over the place. Youtube is nice and all, but it came from the broadcast right to that sight but was obviously captured by other more didicated fans that did much better with it. Underneath the shock and awe that the fruit from the Purple tree is literally endless… it’s nothing too spectacular, just a rehearsal… the final performance blows it way and is still one of the best classic pieces of Purple film in history.

I really do speculate that copyrights were not legally obtained for the program to air it, but if I can be proven wrong, I’m all ears.
It’s copyrighted either way you slice it.

The TV company that aired it are the ones who had it lying around, and they are to thank/ask exactly how it surfaced.
Someone taped it off the TV program, and he is to credit with spotting it and sharing it in the first place… several others have simply helped spread it around to the respective websites.
Hundreds of people between a few download sites already have it saved to their hard drives… it looks great on DVD.

    Peter Elliott says:

Between 1970 and 1972, the producers of Beat Club would invite acts into their studios where they would then be allowed to perform whatever they liked for 20 to 30 minutes. From that raw footage, performances would be selected and used in the final programme. Thankfully, all that raw footage was kept and has been trickling out over the last year or two. So, we are getting to see outtakes and alternates from those shows.

Most of these raw clips have the blue screen behind them… the special FX would be added afterwards. Nice then, to see this without the stupid backgrounds which if I remember featured graphics from the Taliesyn cover… or maybe that was Highway Star from this same show.

Either way great raw slices of 1971 vintage Purple.

There really does need to be an official DVD rounding up all these odd TV performances, but I fear copyrights and licensing issues would make that a prohibitive venture.

If you look on youtube you’ll also find “Demon’s Eye” and “Into the Fire” from this era. don’t think it’s Beat club, but check it out, it’s astounding!

AS GREAT AS THAT WAS, DID ANYONE ELSE NOTICE THE EDITING RIGHT BEFORE THE USUAL SPOT FOR THE IMPROVISATION? THAT REALLY WAS GREAT, AND YOU COULD TELL IT WAS A REHEARSAL BECAUSE THE GREAT FINISH WAS ABANDONED. MAKES YOU HUNGRY FOR WHAT IS FLOATING AROUND OUT THERE DOESN’T IT?

  12. 12
    Crimson Ghost says:

It was either an edit or a flub by the band, stopping abruptly for a split second… I tend to go with your theory, sadly.

    Nero says:

This gig is at first so close to the album version,… except for the solo moment. Yes,… goosebups.

Let’s say something about this VIDEO. DP on a blue screen,… perfect,… when “simple” & “perfect” join together. This is how I wanne see favorite musiciant @

    DAWG says:

HEY NERO,YOU’RE RIGHT. WHEN IT ‘AINT BROKE, DON’T FIX IT.[I DON’T KNOW WHERE YOU’RE FROM, BUT THAT IS SOUTHERN FOR KEEP YOUR DIRTY HANDS OFF!] CRIMSON, YOU KNOW I’M RIGHT. THAT WAS A CUT. THAT’S OK. WE GOT TO SEE IT. LIKE I MENTIONED BEFORE, CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT ELSE IS FLOATING AROUND OUT THERE? YOU KNOW A LOT OF IT IS BEING HELD BACK SO THE MOST CAN BE MADE OF IT. HOW MANY THINGS ARE OUT THERE THAT ARE JUST RE-RELEASES WITH DIFFERENT NAMES? IF YOU LISTEN CLOSELY ENOUGH TO SOME OF THE RAINBOW LIVE RELEASES YOU CAN REALLY GET CRAZY TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHICH SONG REALLY GOES WITH WHAT SHOW. I KNOW THERE IS SOME CARD SHUFFLING GOING ON. EVEN RITCHIE WAS PISSED OFF WHEN THE BOX SET WAS RELEASED. [I’M FAIRLY CERTAIN THAT WAS NOT OUT OF CONCERN FOR “THE FANS”.]

    Bernie says:

The band abruptly stopped because Blackmore made a mistake. He started playing too early after the Hammond solo. Jon Lord played it correctly.

The band played in front of a blue wall. The psychodelic moving artwork was added later. Blue background colours were used very often in TV, to modify later.

    Bernie says:

Sadly the location where Beat Club was filmed (Germany, Radio Bremen, Studio 3) will be knocked down in 2 months.

    Crimson Ghost says:

Are you trying to say the solo pieces were cut and are being horded? If so, whats your point concerning this one piece? Do you expect the solo spot to surface someday and we finally get the whole piece?
It’s possible, but not worth holding our breaths over, there is heaps of live clips going around that will never see official light of day because of copyright issues… you have to collect regularly if you want the satisfaction I get from video material. If you think this piece is cool and it’s rarity makes any difference, you haven’t seen whats out there for the taking. Tons of stuff you’ll never find here.

Speaking of box sets, the fact of the matter is that Ritchie sued Deep Purple a few years ago for the bootleg box sets, after he had already spent his royalty checks, oh yes… he did.
But in the process he also cut himself out of any future sales involvement of theirs, which was a stupid move considering Bruce Payne’s clever knowleadge of the language of the law and how to use it, because of his Harvard degree. This in turn is how Ritchie got *himself* erased from the MH t-shirts, oh yes… he turned around and claimed blesphemy, but failed to realize it was his own doing… touche’ I always say… had he sued them for the Anniversary Editions like he was pondering, he would have lost much bigger on royalties because those still sell well, so he went after them for the official bootlegs. I know people aren’t goning to believe it, but ask Roger if you don’t believe me.
