Somebody stole my guitar
Here’s a very decent quality video of this rarely performed track from early in the Purpendicular tour. March 23, 1996, Brussels, Belgium:

Great stuff, wouldn’t it be good to hear more of this era on the next round of touring, plus some less well troden paths from the 70’s & 80’s? Got to keep e few classics in there but, hey, this stuff is good!
March 20th, 2008 at 08:21It´s possible that I have posted this before but here is a very nice performance of The Aviator from late 1996(gotta love the guys sitting on the edge of the stage!):

March 20th, 2008 at 14:35ha! gillan forgot the lyrics for the first verse.. lord looked upset.. otherwise a good track..
March 20th, 2008 at 15:57Can you believe this is 12 years old already!
March 20th, 2008 at 16:08Great song !!!
March 20th, 2008 at 16:21Ah, the days when Ian Gillan moved around a bit (and fucked verses up more often).
March 20th, 2008 at 23:52To this day the best tour I have seen ( and have seen them all in the Morse era) was the US House of Blues Tour featuring “Purpendicular” and songs from the just released ( 0r soon to be…Im getting old) released “Abandon”, with just enough classics to keep everyone happy. Time to hit the smaller venues again and play more Morse-era for the fans who have hung in for so long.
March 21st, 2008 at 01:52I think DP could very well start touring the Rolling Stones way. Doing Smoke on the Water and Perfect Strangers on an arena one night followed by The Aviator and Rat Bat Blue on a near by club a second night.
March 21st, 2008 at 13:52The first time I saw them was at the Astoria two years ago where they played about two thirds of Rapture of the Deep. That was really special!
March 21st, 2008 at 17:26i was at the house of blues in orlando florida 1997 and saw dp …. they were great i can remember lord rockin the beast !! they did two “new” songs called any fule kno dat and seventh heaven !!! 😉 it was my first concert then not to long after i saw the dregs and it was around that time we all became huge morse fans
March 21st, 2008 at 18:06i think i was like 13 🙂
March 21st, 2008 at 18:07I agree Kimmen… Yes, that Purpendicular tour was very special also…Steve told me Ian was drinking a little heavier on the first couple tours.. Ian wasn’t sure what to expect… Crowds have grown and Ian has calmed down a bit with the drinking:) Keep up the fantastic work lads!!!
March 21st, 2008 at 18:09does anyone have the old record of difficult to cure ??
if not look at your CD and you’ll notice it says mabye next mal rather than ziet which means the original is incorrect german

March 21st, 2008 at 22:58Que temon!!!!! Lord un maestro!!
March 23rd, 2008 at 20:04I agree completely with Gary N. Drop the Machine Head songs and play something different, something fresher, something less safe and rockingchair-ish…
March 25th, 2008 at 10:19And then to say I wander off the tracks……….
Patrick, funny thing you noticed on DTC from the 1981 Rainbow album, but……
This is how it should have been told :
The title is :
“Maybe next time” or “Vielleicht die nachster(with trema or something like that on top of the “a”) Zeit”.
In the early 80’s when I just had dropped out of MAVO/sort of Highschool where I had been taught(Well, the man tried too)German………
A friend kinda snobbish pointed out, because I did not really notice or care at the time, that it should be : “Vielleicht das nachstes mal.”
So that’s the thing……….
Tell the story right or ………….go do something else……..
Goodnight, to ya all……..
March 25th, 2008 at 23:42It has to be spelled like this:
March 26th, 2008 at 08:42“Vielleicht das nächste mal”
I think this song could use a little more cowbell :p
March 26th, 2008 at 14:07I apolopise :
It should be Mal with an capital M
March 27th, 2008 at 00:13I apologise :
It should be Mal with an capital M

March 27th, 2008 at 00:13I noticed a couple of things here. For one, Gillan forgetting the lyrics. I can’t blame Lord for beoing annoyed. All he has to do is remember the words and sing them for goodness sake. Maybe it’s me but I swear the organ is playing when Lord is standing 6 feet away.
March 27th, 2008 at 21:19Actually, I think it is evident that there was some technical “sound difficulty” and the vocals were probably not coming out of the stage monitors. Gillan is obviously momentarily distraught running around, trying to resolve the issue. At the beginning of the tune, he is way off key. Probably can’t hear himself. If you notice, he looks back and makes a motion to his ears, signaling that he can’t hear himself. Trust me, I sing in a band and when you can’t hear yourself, it is truly disastrous. I feel his pain. Been there, done that.
Cheers
March 29th, 2008 at 20:07To Tracy,
March 30th, 2008 at 12:59As always , you speak the same language as a true(hard rock) singer and you sense very right as DP and Gillan fan!How are you doing with your band in the mean time? Is there already a new recording on the you tube from the great LOzT CAUz ? Cheers!!!
Hey Mike and Charlotte…..just followed you over from the “Cal Jam” blog and left a message there. The language I speak is from the heart and soul. I have been a true Purple fan since ’68 and have been through all of their line-ups and side projects. There is nothing that compares to this band on the planet. So, I take special care when I decide to make my points. I don’t take them for granted and I truly appreciate everything they have afforded to put out for us to enjoy. Pointless jabber about which player or MK is the best is just that ……POINTLESS. They all have their place. All were great and the next will be too, if there is a next. They are timeless. I just finished putting every Purple Studio track on my portable MP3 player, including all of the non-lp and b-side material. Over 190 songs. I set it on shuffle and never know which tune is going to play next. The variables and different sounds that they have put out are awesome and it never gets old. I only hope there will be another effort to add to the list soon. Can’t get enough of them. Long Live Purple.
As far as the “LOzT CAUz” You Tube stuff, I am trying to figure out how to convert my video’s to the proper format. Warpigs was put on by the previous Bass player. He is gone now and I have all of the recordings, but don’t know how to convert it to You Tube format. There is a live performance of “Smoke on the Water” and Santana’s “Black Magic Woman” that I am trying to put up, but don’t know the process. One day soon…….I’ll keep working on it.
Keep looking……and just type in “LOzT CAUz” as you did to see the “Warpigs” performance. I moved to another state and am in the process of putting “LOzT CAUz” together again. It’s not easy finding the right people. Though I am going to continue with the 3 piece which makes it a little easier to manage.
Cheers
April 1st, 2008 at 03:38great video …..saw purple in 1996 at johnnyland near corpus christi tx usa what a night… supposed to be a tejano concert arena in the desert and look who pops up but deep purple…..all these mexican cowboys turn up…..quite a sight…great memories
April 1st, 2008 at 15:15Hi Tracy!
WOW!!! You’re one of a kind!
Now and then we represent the hard rock vibes of our dear ‘Highway Star Bunch’ And we thinking often we are ‘Purple-Possessed’! C. has moved too, our meeting place is pulled down and thanks to ‘rules and regulations’ our proud troop is forced to come to an end pretty soon. ( a misty future)
If we’re not mistaken it seems to be also a harder time for you.It is tough to keep that determination to go on. You don’t loose even the interest in the DP comments .Of course, we may not forget that from now on, you are reinforced with the most unbeatable MP3 player .So often things change in life, money, house, relations…but the joy and cheer the music brings in heart and soul is untouchable!( or perhaps drinking beer too). So Tracy, from that other side of the ocean, we do ‘thumbs up’ for you! The technical music puzzling will get solved for sure.’LOzT CAUz’ has the ‘hero’ to put it back together, so it will never change in a ‘Lost Cause’.We will check regulary.Black Magic Woman is one of our favorites.
At least, we have a gift together: The HARD ROCK INSTINCT!
And yes! PURPLE EVERY HOUR, ON THE HOUR, FOR AN HOUR, JUST FOREVER!!! Accompanied with
…CHEERS!***
***Of course Tracy … with sober earnest(!)…as long as it is DP with IAN GILLAN…
April 2nd, 2008 at 12:44Holy Mackeral…….
Just to make sure I don’t become a hypocrite…..I want to make sure I practice what I preach and maintain that I stay on the proper “Blog” subject.
“Somebody Stole My Guitar” and that is why I now play drums and sing lead in the band.
How is that for a segway??????
I’ll drink to that.
April 2nd, 2008 at 19:38This is something:

April 2nd, 2008 at 21:38Thanks! Cool, but I scarcely can hear it…
April 3rd, 2008 at 08:13Hello Tracy
UNTOUCHABLE!!!!!!!!!!:)
You’re a stunner!
We bow the head for deviating the ‘blog course’.We promise to booze all night to pay for our sin.
April 3rd, 2008 at 10:42I’ll drink to the 40th Anniversary…that’s something special!!!!
April 5th, 2008 at 19:54I have the DVD, it looks to me like Ian was singing, wasn’t he?
June 29th, 2008 at 00:51He clearly had to find another mic and use it, hence the cues to the crewmen behind the amps and even approaching Jon’s area looking to grab a mic. These things happen, although he may have been missing some of the words by the time he had a new mic, who wouldn’t? It’s the only huge flaw in the entire performance, which was marred by technical difficulties which if you watch the whole thing, is clearly what Jon was pissed about. Ian Gillan never uses monitors, ask him, he’ll tell you that much… but he could have used them that night, for sure.(do you ever see any on front of him on stage like most singers?)
Fantastycznie, genialnie, kapitalnie… ( PL )
