大江戸の火消し — Firemen of Edo
From the bizzare covers department The Highway Star is proud to present you this gem:

This is our very own Smoke on the Water retitled “Oedo No Hikeshi” (Firemen of Edo; Edo is the old name of Tokyo), performed on a Japanese show called “Tokiwazubushi Is Rock”. Tokiwazubushi is a school of Joruri, and developed alongside Kabuki theatre, which it was played to accompany. The concert was part of TV Asahi’s weekly series “Daimei No Nai Ongakukai” (Concert Without a Title).
On the “Tokiwazubushi Is Rock” show they also did “Jailhouse Rock aka Denmacho Soodori” (Everyone Dance in Denmacho):

where lyrics are arranged/modified to fit the Edo era imagery, while retaining the original theme/subject matter – as with SOTW, while We Will Rock You was done in English, with a section of a traditional song inserted in the middle:

April 1st, 2008 at 00:20There are copies in YouTube. Though each one is lossy of course. I have this downloaded as a music track for myself. If it would be even possible to retrieve the original record and publish it in better quality, that would be great.
