Lazy 1998

Moscow, Olimpiysky Sports Palace, November 23, 1998. Jon Lord plays here like a man possessed. In later years, he more and more often started appearing less than enthusiastic on stage…

Many thanks to Rafael for the correct date.

1998 is the best year for Deep Purple’s Live shows post reunion. In particular for Gillan. The Italian shows in june 1998 were phenomenal. But even for the rest of the band it was an excellent year.So please give us some ’98 dvds!!!
    The Lord bless us all!!!

There is Jon Lord and then the rest, with the great Don Airey as a strong no. 2.

Super Maestro … Jon Lord the best in the World

    T says:

It is interesting that you hear Jon’s future interests in his solos and performances long before he left Purple, and when he did leave, everyone understood and wished him well. We miss him–but we hold no grudge.

Not so with Blackmore. He played little tidbits throughout his career, with one outtake on the “Burn” remaster being especially prophetic. When *he* left, it was some kind of crime and the nasty remarks on this site refuse to cease. Few wish *him* well.

Regarding this performance, as brilliant as it is, something Roger once said comes to mind: If you make a mistake, do it three times so it sounded like it was on purpose!!!

    Simply outstanding, Thank You Jon…………………..

    Lord is great !!!

anyway you can how great is Morse – a great guitare leader – wonderful solo ….

    love this band (-:

    Rascal says:

Does any one else get a bit sick of hearing about ‘Blackmore’? The above is a ‘Blackmore Free’ clip.

Jon Lord may have gone but he can never be forgotten. Fantastic performance.

    Mark Bee says:

Lord is one of my favorites. The second best ever without a doubt.

Number one is still Keith Emerson. In 1998, I saw both on the same bill. A dream fulfilled.

  16. 16
    Jetze says:

    Only one word: the Maestro!!!

  17. 17
    PATRICK says:

number one keith emerson ?? man what u smokin !!!!

  18. 18
    Blackmore says:

It’s funny, you know… After Lord left, some “fans” on the fanforum said that “it was for the best” because Lord wasn’t interested anymore, and his performance lacked inspiration. Stupid, ignorant bastards! This clip shows what Jon did every night, on stage, with Purple, until he left!

He didn’t lack anything, and he IS the Lord of Hammond!!!

  19. 19
    T says:

Yeah, I’d have to agree I never saw a “lack of interest”. Maybe off-stage he was getting antsy to work on other things, but the man is the quintessential professional and didn’t bring it onto the stage. He *was*, however, injured at one point. As you get old, things hurt that you didn’t even know you had…

    Henrik says:

    – wonderful!

Is it possible to find that concert somewhere, as it seems professionally filmed?

  21. 21
    True Believer says:

Seen him a number of times performing in Australia just prior to his leaving the band. Have to say the guy always looked like he was enjoying himself and put in great performances. His interaction with Steve Morse was always something I remember. I honestly think that Morse, and not just his guitar genius, but his laid back happy approach reinvigorated Jon in those last ten years with the band. Don is a great replacement but Lord was, is, and always will be King of the Hammond. For me anyway.

    Hey T.

Never learnt to only speak for yourself?

  23. 23

    Nope. ;p

    Cranberry says:

Jon Lord, a true professional, an amazing musican.

  25. 25
    BILL MAJOR says:

    HEY, PURPLEPRIEST1965,
NEVER LEARNED TO SPELL FOR YOURSELF? I’M SICK OF ALL THIS WHINING AND MOANING ABOUT WHICH PURPLE IS BEST AND WHICH IS THIS AND THAT AND ALL THE BULL IN BETWEEN. IF YOU LISTEN TO THAT PIECE, JON WAS SLOPPY THROUGH HALF OF IT, BUT GUESS WHAT, THAT IS WHAT MAKES IT FRESH AND REAL “PURPLE”. FLY BY THE SEAT OF YOUR PANTS AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. LIKE PAICE SAYS IN HELL OR HIGH WATER, “SOME NIGHTS IT WORKS INCREDIBLY WELL AND SOME NIGHTS WE SAY WHY HAVE WE DONE IT?” I HAD “PICTURE WITHIN” PLAYED AT MY WEDDING SO I KNOW ALL OF JON LORD’S WORK AND LOVE ALL OF IT. BO GIVES DON AIREY THE RESPECT HE DESERVES BECAUSE HE IS ALSO TREMENDOUSLY TALENTED. HE MADE ONE MISTAKE. HE FOLLOWED THE ORIGINAL. THINK BACK. JON WAS THE FIRST OF HIS KIND AND TO BE REALLY HONEST DON MIGHT BE THE LAST. IF YOU LOOK AT ALL THE INTERVIEWS OVER THE YEARS YOU WILL ALSO SEE THAT TRUE BELIEVER IS ALSO RIGHT ABOUT STEVE KEEPING JON GOING FOR YEARS. HELL, HE HAS KEPT THEM ALL GOING FOR YEARS. THEY ALL SAY IT. THEY DO NOT HESITATE TO GIVE STEVE ABSOLUTE CREDIT FOR LITERALLY SAVING THIS LEGENDARY GROUP OF UNBELIEVABLY TALENTED MUSICIANS. EVERYBODY TURN THE WHINING DOWN AND THE VOLUME UP. WE COULD HAVE HAD OUR LAST OF THESE GUYS IN ’73. I’LL TAKE THE BONUS 34 YEARS. GOOD AND BAD. AND THERE HAS BEEN A BUNCH OF BOTH. [MOSTLY VERY, VERY GOOD]

  26. 26
    rascal says:

So there you go…………….Bill Major had ‘Pictured within’ played at his wedding. Obviously this means he knows all of JL’s work inside out, and is more than entitled to comment on the quality of each and every note that Lord has ever played………………..Yawn!!

  27. 27
    purplepriest1965 says:

    Hey Bill
    What’s YOUR problem?
I never anywhere attacked “your Jon Lord”…..On the contrary……
Btw, I still do noyt need glasses.
    I’m not deaf either………
    How old are you?

  28. 28
    Rascal says:

I hand Motorhead ‘Overkill’ played at 18th birthday……………….and that makes me Lemmy’s friend!!

  29. 29
    purplepriest1965 says:

Rascal, it’s time to see a shrink.

  30. 30
    Rascal says:

I think your right Priest. Me and whole lot of others too!!

Any chance you can give the name and number of yours?
