Total mayhem at Southbank
This from a Purple performance at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London in May 1970 that was recorded for a British TV programme Southbank Summer. This surfaced only a couple of years ago.

July 23rd, 2007 at 23:07Absolutely brilliant. Beats watching some amateurish band with bad timing playing Burn
July 24th, 2007 at 01:42Wow , decent picture and sound. Pretty damn historic . I was loving it !
July 24th, 2007 at 05:02Real freaky chicks dancing to .

July 24th, 2007 at 07:40Great stuff !!!
You have to watch the show untill the end.It is fine, but I do not really understand…..
July 24th, 2007 at 08:30This brings back memories of DP at Randwick Racecourse may 1971.
If only this sort of stuff was around today – I’d better wipe my rose coloured glasses.
July 24th, 2007 at 09:49Brilliant stuff – absolutely amazing. Keep this sort of stuff coming.
July 24th, 2007 at 12:08Wow, what a performance. When is this going to be released on DVD officially? I can’t wait for that, come on people at DPAS, please include this on the next Archives DVD!
This is what’s Deep Purple is all about and this is why I am a big fan.
DEEP PURPLE FOPREVER!!!
July 24th, 2007 at 13:12This is amazing stuff. It would be lovely if this was cleaned up for release. We can only hope…!
July 24th, 2007 at 13:30DAZ
This is why I LOVE Deep Purple so much! Amazing stuff! Cheers whoever uploaded this!
July 24th, 2007 at 14:23Ritchie and Roger were way out of tune.
Heh, heh. Just kidding.
Is this not why we are Deep Purple fans? It’s heavily edited, but you can still see the interaction between the members. Only DP can use the prop at the top of the Hammond as an “instrument” and turn thunder into music.
How thick was Blackmore’s tremolo arm? Looked like a dang crow bar.
There has to be more of this kind of stuff floating around. Someone needs to put it all on a DVD.
I sure miss that blitzkrieg-style guitar. Mayhem as music. You gotta love it. I think Blackmore voided his guitar warranty on that one.
If only the Japan shows were video’d. Today it would be all over YouTube.
July 24th, 2007 at 14:23The masters doing what they do best. No one else could abuse and destroy equipment like that and still make it sound like music.
July 24th, 2007 at 16:24great moment ! I like the girls in video ! long live the seventy’s .
July 24th, 2007 at 20:24thank’s dp
THIS IS DEEP PURPLE, and the reason why we are so many who loves them. We still remeber how DP was in the golden days.
July 25th, 2007 at 08:32Pleeeease find all these great videos/films and put them on a DVD. Then you dont need to wach all the newer DP DVDs.
Please, Ian – Ian – Roger – Jon & Ritchie, bring this magic back – just for one last tour. If not for your own pleasure, then for the fans who have been with you since day one.
Someone should show these clips to Gillan and Blackmore……………… maybe just maybe they will be able to remember what Deep Purple, and rock music was all about.
I doubt they would see it though!! They have the heads too far up their own self important rectums.
July 25th, 2007 at 15:49Fantastic. Ian Paice is on fire, and the band just sound so dangerous even now, almost 40 years on!
July 25th, 2007 at 20:42Now that was good.
July 27th, 2007 at 02:11What can you say,Brilliant!
August 2nd, 2007 at 09:43That is what Purple were all about,Mark 2 is the only line-up that really IS Deep Purple.
Blackmore once again shows how good he is.
Even Glover getting feed back-AWESOME.
Bring back those good old days when bands brought some exitement to a show.
Blackmore,Gillan,Glover,Lord and Paice rule supreme.
What else is out there of the Classic Mark 2 line up????????
Please find more.
I’m intrigued by the fact that they manage to play scales and make them sound musical in order to get their instruments back in tune after abusing them.
August 10th, 2007 at 23:18Hello all, I was at the Southbank Summer gig! In fact I was one of the dancers. Was trying to view the gig but it won’t play. Does anyone know how to see it (for old memories sake). I know you can buy it from the t.v. company but it costs alot.
