“The real deal”…..Yeah right, one very important component is missing Joe: authenticy !
July 6th, 2009 at 04:12Man On the Silver Mountain: great sound they do..
Great Bob Rondinelli..
About JLT…ahahah..he makes me laugh when I see him on this video..I see how much he likes to move his hairs…
aahahhha…his head never stops to..roll..
I’d like to see them here in Italy..
cheers, people..
July 6th, 2009 at 10:20Well, sounds and looks convincing enough for me.
Hey Tracy, you lucky son of a bitch, did you go to see them?
There are still NO dates for over here which is making me feel uneasy…..
Will they make it up to here?
July 6th, 2009 at 10:45Nice!….now come to Canada!!!
July 6th, 2009 at 11:01Great crowd for .. hmm “Rainbow”!!
July 6th, 2009 at 13:27Good OTR, Good. They’re giving the hypocritical whiners/backyard critics a run for their money, which is just the way it should be. It’s a pity that Tony Carey opted out…no one from the Rising-line up left, but who cares when it’s this good & entertaining as well.
Got to check my hair now, bye.
July 6th, 2009 at 15:24that quick clip of Jr. playing Kill the King was pretty damn good and the vocals sound pretty sweet to me. I’m in.
July 6th, 2009 at 15:41its to bad there not comming to florida ….tracy what was the show like ??? i dunno i like this band JLT is singing better than ever and JR has his fathers licks down pat the tone and everything … bobby is a incredible drummer but i think they need more solo’s like battles does anyone agree
July 6th, 2009 at 17:02Has Rondinelli changed his name? :))
July 6th, 2009 at 18:06Stefan and Andrea A:
Keep quiet if you have nothing positive to say. YOU ARE SO BOORING!!!!!!!!!!!
I look forward to se OTR very soon. Joe is a great singer (and far better than Coverdale these days) and Jürgen is a super guitar player.
July 6th, 2009 at 19:35OTR is best we can have when RB and Dio cant find a way to reform the real Rainbow.
Well said Finn!
July 7th, 2009 at 00:54I think what I’ve heard so far sounds really good, wish they were coming to the Midwest so we could hear for ourselves. Now let’s see…….where did I put my black gloves and cool shades?? lol…cheers
July 7th, 2009 at 01:43Some say the Over the Rainbow project lacks authenticity because Ritchie Blackmore is not involved.
One could make that same argument for the current Purple.
On the other hand, the band is having a great time, the fans are having a great time, and the media are giving good coverage.
Looking forward to an album.
July 7th, 2009 at 04:38Dear Finn!
He´s got lovely hair and teeth…..positive enough?
July 7th, 2009 at 06:46Texas was to far to travel to see another Rainbow tribute band………..
July 7th, 2009 at 08:28Finn,
oh my god, STOP!!!
If someone doesn’t like something, this doesn’t mean that he hasn’t right to post his negative attitude.
I don’t like OTR, so I post it.
This is NOT Iran as far as I know. E.g In Iran if you say something bad about the government, you’d better close your mouth…
If you say that we are the free society, everybodu MUST have it’s own opinion and right to express it, no matter positive or negative.
I think that OTR is simply the money-making system, that’s my opinion. I don’t like JLT. If someone says that JLT is better than DC, he must be def. That’s MY PERSONAL OPINION, so nobody has right to block different personal opinions.
“Don’t say anything if you have nothing positive to say” – this would be the good slogan for any dictator’s regime. But this slogan is absolutely demagind ROCK BAND’S FAN SITE’s reputation.
Tastes differ… but music is very intimate, personal thing, and thus mostly debated…
July 7th, 2009 at 08:41Oh Finn,
I wrote I liked what Rondinelli said and that i liked to hear their sound (full of power).
Am I boring? and you who do think to be? But I don’t need you anwer dear serious man.
About JLT I said only about his movement in front of te camera: why can not I get smiling? I’d like to listen him here in Italy on stage with this “Rainbow” but I have to be satisfied only by these report like this..
seriously
July 7th, 2009 at 10:16Your AndreA
Surely it could be fantastic they would make a new release in studio: all they are great musician,I’d like to get their new work! why not!?
July 7th, 2009 at 12:23Seriously looking forward to album and tour
Meanwhile I ll give JLTs solo cd s another SLAM!!!!!
Bringing the hammer doooooowwwnnnnnn!!!!!!!
SLAM!!!!
July 7th, 2009 at 13:33Some may say that the Over the Rainbow project lacks authenticity because Ritchie Blackmore is not involved…………
But then again as a tribute band its as authentic as any other tribute band……..
It lacks originality & creativity…….thats all!!
JLT has spent the last few years singing successful tracks he wished he’d written or been involved in.
He’s made a living out of it, and the fans keep begging for more…….they dont want originality, and creativity………they just want to hear JLT’s ‘Man on the Silver Mountain, and ‘Since Youve Been Gone’………..
Says it all really………
July 7th, 2009 at 13:52Joe really thinks ‘authenticity’ makes all the difference or something. Authentic or not, it would still sound better if he didn’t touch the sacred Dio material. Bonnet era is fine by me because thats who he replaced in the first place. The guy has it all wrong if yyou ask me, and it’s my opinion that he isn’t even doing it for the money as most would figure, he’s after exposure, the reckoning is his mission.
Stay in your element while you’re at this Joe… and by the way, did one of the media there accuse you of being a ‘tribute act’ or something, otherwise why even bring it up, huh, do you have a complex about it, perhaps?????
July 7th, 2009 at 14:38Great that these very competent musicians are keeping this great music alive. Truth is, it’s a glorified cover band (albeit a very good one)and there’s nothing wrong with that. I wish they did more U.S. dates at some legitimate venues.
July 7th, 2009 at 14:51Sorry to state here, I didn’t attend….I live in Tennessee, not Texas. The closest they are slated to come to my domain is about 10 hours away, and I just can’t quite justify that trip. They look and sound great on this News Clip, but they will have to go a step further before I totally am taken in by the Tribute.
‘Maybe Next Time’ when and if they do a record and tour something NEW would I then be enthused enough to go on such a long road trip. Did it for Purple many times…….OTR have a little more convincing to do in order for this Purple and Purple Related fan to go all ‘Gaga’….
Come on Joe…..do a gig in Nashville or at least within 5 hours of travel….that’s my OTR limit of driving distance I will donate to the cause…
Cheers
July 7th, 2009 at 16:40Some of you are sad individuals with an evil streak….you find the need to bash and berate because you can’t do better or simply because your just bitter people with nothing better to do. I would seriously like to know how OTR is a tribute band. A tribute band consists of no one who has ever been in an actual incarnation of a famous band, but plays their music. Ummm last I checked Joe Lynn Turner was the longest lasting front man for the most successful incarnation of the band, Bobby Rondinelli was the most recognized drummer Rainbow ever had, Greg Smith & Paul Morris were in the last version of Rainbow with Ritchie and last but not least your have Jurgen Blackmore who is the only son of Ritchie Blackmore…who by the way is an excellent guitarist in his own right. So please explain to me how that isn’t authentic. Ghost…great name it says it all…no one really notices your there unless attack…Joe Lynn Turner has been touring successfully since the end of his days with Rainbow…so I doubt it’s for the exposure…or the reckoning…everyone works to make money to pay your bills…and underneath it all it’s in their soul.
July 7th, 2009 at 23:21@ 20
I dont agree
I think Deep Purple shhould have pursued with what they did with the PURPENDICULARtour, play lots of new oldies and tracks of the new line up and above all stick to their guns
At the same time I m convinced if Joe would have the stamina to educate the OTR audience theres is more than the classics by Rainbow and DP, for instance his solo stuff or 1 or two by Brazen Abbot……it would work out fine
Btw, Joe already sang DIO songs in the arly 80s and I dont see the problem him redoing them now.
July 7th, 2009 at 23:28Tracy,
Try the Chicago show, it’s a short set but Jurgen went off on that night, it seems he is getting hot. I noticed improvisations not even attempted thus far. I can say at least that much has obtained my interest today.
July 9th, 2009 at 02:00On July 3rd I witnessed OTR and was blown away. They were the best band of the long weekend. That may not mean much unless I note that I also saw Judas Priest, Whitesnake, Starship, Billy Squire, Adler’s Appetite, L.A. Guns and Warrant. Say what you will about some of those bands, but all were far more road tested then OTR, yet all failed to live up to the OTR performance which speaks volumes (pun intended) about the quality of the musicians AND the quality of the songs. Long Live OTR!!
Bonus: Bumped into OTR in a local restaurant prior to the gig and got a nice pic with JLT. Wasn’t 1/2 the jacka$$ he was on the Deep Purple: Heavy Metal Pioneers video!
July 9th, 2009 at 21:13They are doing great – but why they don’t come to Europe, somewhere in the middle, that’s the question?…
July 10th, 2009 at 10:04#24 correct–but in my opinion–we all have one or two–Cozy P. was the most famous RB drummer. taking nothing away from Bobby R. i saw him with R-bow in Philly and he is a fantastic drummer in his own right.
July 10th, 2009 at 13:3624 says it all….well put. Alot of people don’t realise that Blackmore junior is a very talented guitarist and has been playing for many years. He didn’t pick up the instrument 6 months ago to be like dad. Personally I hope this catches on to the extent where I can see the band within a reasonable drive. Enough talk about tribute bands. If they fit into that definition than Deep Purple would fit right alongside them….
July 11th, 2009 at 12:40@30
Agreed, David, Morse is way less DP then J.R. Blackmore Rainbow. Gillan isn’t main pillar of the DP – Lord and Blackmore are, included Paice. OTR seems to me more exciting then this DP today. Cheers.
July 14th, 2009 at 06:45@30
Dont agree. Until OTR produce some new material and album, the title ‘tribute act’ shall remain.
Thankfully Morse aint Blackmore! And his contribution to albums and new material is quite evident.
Can the same be said for OTR / JLT / JRB ???
Why not have a listen to ‘Rainbow Rising’…… a decent UK tribute band…….
July 15th, 2009 at 08:19Usually tribute band fail to deliver an acceptable singer.
July 15th, 2009 at 17:44I do not like the singer of Rainbow Rising, sorry.
@24 & @30 Agree 100%
Backyard critics & never have been’s, quit while you’re behind and/or move on 😉
Cheers
July 15th, 2009 at 18:10@33
Agreed!
The singer of OTR doesnt break that exception either.
@34
You dont come any more backyard
July 15th, 2009 at 22:18@34
Thanks for your efforts, very supportive of you.
Show us your work next time you repeat that, and it shall be honored.
Nothing wrong with this band, except for the material that doesn’t begin to suit them, which apparently takes up too much of the show.
July 16th, 2009 at 00:32#26
Ghost….is the Chicago Show the same as Bridgeview, IL. 7-3-09?
Yeah, if so, I agree. JR seems to be loosening up and going off a little now. Actually, sounds more and more like Pops. I guess that’s a good thing when basically trying to sound like the band you are emulating…..Maybe they can eventually change the name to “JR’s Rainbow” and put out an album. That would be quite a legacy for TMIB to leave him. I’d buy into that one….
Cheers
July 16th, 2009 at 17:06I think thats a pretty good idea.
I only caught “Chicago” in the title, but I’m sure if they played both IL gigs then they would likely be similar.
July 17th, 2009 at 21:52CG : I have never put down your work. I don’t even know exactly what it is that you do, but I gather you work in the media/music industry. I really don’t care. I do wish you well & all the best in your line of work and in life in general. My remarks were a piss take of the childish, sad/somewhat bitter individuals who constantly bash OTR/JLT without even giving ’em a fair chance or just concentrating on the non-musical factors…talking about repititive! Tribute band or not, that’s a matter of opinion. I’m not personally bothered with such trivialities & petty issues.
What I do for living is irrelevant here…I don’t have to put it forward, don’t need to prove anything to anyone. I’m good at what I do, I work hard & make a good living.
I hope this clears the air between us, have a good week.
July 19th, 2009 at 10:02Glad to know you don’t take such at me, but I don’t exactly get paid in the occupational sense for my work on the internet, however, the perks are priceless, so it does have it’s rewards. I have one thing against OTR and thats it… it’s JLT’s beast, so I think it’s best to try and mine something from there out, and drop the pre-JLT Rainbow material, sans perhaps a song or two that can’t be dismissed, ‘MOTSM’ being one of them, but then again, they play it quite tuned down to the point of nothing but a mere plod. Otherwise I wish him/them the best and might even consider seeing them if the opportunity comes my way. But I can’t get involved in promoting them because it seems to be his show and his PR is terrible. But I do have connections with Jurgen’s people and have been obliged an interview, so that just might happen soon enough, and a great scoop it will be if it does happen.
July 20th, 2009 at 17:19Thanks for being a gentleman, CG. I know what you mean,
JLT does have his shortcomings(you’re right about his PR).
Really looking forward to the possible Jurgen interview, should be a good one.
Cheers
July 21st, 2009 at 12:29Back to the subject..

July 28th, 2009 at 12:26You’re right there, Priest my man! Just saw DP here in Finland, at the end of August it’s Mr. Bonnet’s turn & then OTR in October so it’s good to be a Purple/related fan this year 🙂
Cheers, rock on
July 28th, 2009 at 15:04Only comment is: When will the Blackmore’s NightM-A-R-E be over…????
