No Place Like Home
Deep Purple live at O2 Arena (London, UK 2017-11-23)
Saw the boys last night for the 14th time. Stretching back to the first time with Tommy Bolin in 1976. But this was the first time out of my home of Southern California. With Thanksgiving and my 60th birthday plus Purple all the same day, I had to make the trip. What a difference. In the US, it’s been double billed shortened shows with little emphasis on the new music. Last night at O2 was easily the best show I’ve seen in a decade. And the fans were so much a part of it. Happy to be with a crowd that appreciates Purple as much, or more than me. I thought it to be a great offering all the way around. A memorable night. I’ll appreciate the music and “Pictures of Home” from this show for the rest of my days. Fantastic.

What a night and what a show. BTW I don’t think it will be the last time they play here. It’s only the beginning of the End. The show still goes on and on.
December 2nd, 2017 at 00:55did Ritchie appear?If not,forget it!!
December 3rd, 2017 at 00:52Was simply a great show , Comment No 2 , has no relevance here , 2 good support acts and Purple at the top of their game , what’s not to like ?
December 8th, 2017 at 14:18By your logic, Moreblack, I should not go and see an orchestra performing music by, for example, Mozart or Beethoven, as it is unlikely they will appear.
December 8th, 2017 at 19:37Fortuntalely, the show was sold out, the tickets going to people who accept that the only consistent thing in life is change, and who enjoyed music both of the Blackmore era, and from the rather longer period where Mr Morse has been in the band, some of which is at least as strong as the older material.
They didn’t play Pictures Of Home.

December 9th, 2017 at 08:18But I think this fact won’t influence his “Pictures of home”-feeling he´s talking about. 😉
#4 This is not Purple at least through the last 24 years.
December 9th, 2017 at 19:16@#7 actually the decision what is and isn’t deep purple does not lie with you Moreblack. That decision lies purely with the good folk of deep purple. They also appear to show more competence on the matter then the likes of you ever could. You appear to completely lack musical credibility to pass judgement.
December 11th, 2017 at 04:11My best advice for guys like you is that you stay away from anything Deep Purple and try not to spoil the enjoyment of people who take a concert for what it is. It is after all a good and honest pastime.
I bet you are the kind of guy who swaps the sugar for the salt so your wife can not enjoy her cup of tea!

December 12th, 2017 at 13:51Moreblack – so was it also not Purple without Rod Evans, Nick Simper, IG (Mk3, S&M), RG (Mk3), with Tommy in Mk4 etc? RB was absolutely one of the main reasons we’re on this forum but it was his choice to do something else, that it continues to be an amazing experience in the studio and live (the O2 this year AND two years ago were superb, IMHO) is an extension of what was born in the late 60’s. I don’t care who the personnel are, if it’s great music then who cares?! But that it goes under the DP banner and in the same spirit as of Day 1 is surely a blessing to us all. But if you don’t like it, that’s fine too.
December 12th, 2017 at 17:27@7 get over the fact that your MIB no longer wants to be or is accepted by the current “living breathing Deep Purple”…. go to the website of Blackmores Knight.com to get your FIX!
December 15th, 2017 at 02:43#8 10 11 Deep Purple finished in 1993.Then its Gillan Glover band. The soul was not there anymore.#11 “the living DEAD breathing DP” it’s what it is for sure.
December 17th, 2017 at 18:14really?!…tell that to the hundreds of thousands of fans who have seen them on tour so far this year!! Im sure some have gone home disappointed (cause it’s not 1985) but for the VAST majority we have all enjoyed what we have seen and actually are hoping for more. They must still excite you to some extent or why would you be here?! cheers and Happy Holidays DP fans
December 18th, 2017 at 10:34@6 Shmee is absolutely correct.
It wasn’t the tune I was referring to, but the boys putting one on for London. Steve even put “there’s no place like home” in to one of his solos. Agreed.
And for the record, I’ve seen Rainbow a number of times, love Ritchie. But the current Rainbow lineup pales in comparison to Purple and the sound these guys can put out. Still impressive. Happy 50 to all the Purple fans out there!

whats so progressive about a Deep Purple line up that sort of bored the hell out the most of us after they made Purpendicular?
You sound like a Social Justice Warrior trying to sell us Islam as a progressive way to go.
Cheers from Rotterdam
January 15th, 2018 at 18:16@@@ 16 ???? THS seems to become a fake-music-university. I cannot understand why fake dp fans put their energy in forums or sites as ths while they only critize dp and appareantly have a hangover about dp after blackmore. Find yourself another band to critize. Forget dp if you don’t feel comfortable with dp for the latest areas.
January 23rd, 2018 at 00:33@ 10 and @ 13 Okeeeeeeeee !!!!! And @ 16 what has got the Islam to do with dp or music ? You are freaking out, your mind ………
January 23rd, 2018 at 00:42@ 16 . I had the privilige to enjoy DP-performances from 2006 – 2013, 10 times in eight years, in Holland, Germany and Belgium, most of the concerts in the front row. I can say : each time it was an absolute superb joy and a superb exciting performance. No doubt for me : DP was, is and will continue to be the best in music ever !!!
Feel sorry for you that your missing this great pleasure in life,
Enjoy Life !!!!!
