Brilliant concert

Deep Purple live at Graspop Metal Meeting (Dessel, Belgium 2017-06-17)

I was on saturday 17th of june in Dessel at the Graspop Metal Meeting & I saw once again Deep Purple as Headliner of the day. No doubt about it, it was a fabulous GIG. I saw Purple many times but this time it was extra ordinary! OK, we can discuss about the setlist but for me one thing is very clear, Deep Purple is awesome! With their ages , they blow still everyone away.
Also the press is very possitive “oldies but goldies”. If this was the last concert in Belgium, well this was really a great one!
But with the energy & the technologie they plaid, I can hardly belief that they will stop playing.
It’s impossible to belief but these guys are so good & their smiles are so great…go to see them, it’s unbeliefable but thrue!

Deep Purple Rules!

probably a stupid Purple fan?

    I was there too.

I say purple 16 or 17 times. It’s true the concert was good, But in my opnion the crowd was also amazing.

But to be honest, I saw the ‘ now what ‘ tour four times, and it’s rather the same than this tour.
Four example, when they play ‘strange kind of women, Gillan says at the end ‘ exactly word for word’,….

But I had a great day.

I even bookend a meet and greet with Deep Purple. four the first time in my life I meet the guys of Deep Purple,
    not Ian Gillan.
They looked tired, but they where friendly and we shake hands. I had a word with Roger Glover, Ian Paice and
Steve Morse, and we took pictures. Don Airey was there too.

It was short about 10 or 15 minutes but I can’t complain, they did what they had to do, and I left with a good feeling.
And then afterwards a good concert. Surely a dat to remember.

I was there too. Allow me to focus on only one point here: Gillan’s voice.
I saw a dozen or so gigs at GMM on Saturday and – I hope I am not too biased here by saying that – Deep Purple really put the rest in shade.
After the first songs I could not resist asking myself “what happened to Gillan’s voice?” Well something must have, as I have not heard him sing so good for years maybe even a decade, maybe more.
In general of course I understand age etc, but I think that Gillan’s voice has been the weakest link in Purple’s performance for ages. But – and this is the reason why I post a comment now which I normally don’t – I must tell I was blown away by his performance this time. It is not only the power and punctuality coming back but it seemed to me that he started to use a much broader stylistic toolkit in his singing (I never heard him so bluesy and melodic). Hats off!

Ps.: I saw Iron Maiden a few months ago, good show but poor Bruce suffered throughout – irritating slithering falzettos even in midrange. Maybe just a bad day.

Maybe it is still very hard to function right after being almost dead due to cancer which he did beat?

The Purple gig was selected no. 1. of this three day metal marathon by the below site. It is in Dutch but you’ll get the idea very easily at:

    I think they are right…

Btw, Rammstein came 16, Scorpions not listed…
