Still my rock’n’ roll heroes
Summer memories: Sweden 2008
Me and my daughter (18 yrs) took a couple of rock trips this year. First chapter starts in Öja, Sweden where Deep Purple performed in August. When we went there (camping a few kilometers away from the venue). I had almost forgotten all about it since we bought our tickets as early as February or March.
I had no expectations but I completely lost touch with the ground for two hours when Deep Purple played. And as I was standing there, quite close to the stage, I realized it wasn’t Richie Blackmore on the guitar. It was this amazing guitarist (Steve Morse of course) who had this fantastic smile and he played so well you could hardly believe it.
The review of the Swedish paper the day after had the audacity of saying that the Swedish opening band Europe stole the show. How can they say a thing like that? There must be something seriously wrong with their ears! Europe song lyrics consist mostly of something like “Whoaw, whoaw” though Joey Tempest has a good voice and Norum is a pretty good guitarist.
As we didn’t get enough of the band and Steve’s guitar that night, we decided to go to Frankfurt to see them in November. They were my rock n’ roll heroes back in the seventies – and for dead sure – they still are.
(If you want to read more checkout www.hotasshell.com)
Whoah whoah?
Well, that was an excellent way of saying that you talk bullshit.
Thats the same as saying Gillans lyrical outing mainly consist of his mutulated screams sounding like whoarrrgghhhhhhhhh.
And that their only great song is Smoke On The Water
Glad you did not say The Final Countdown is the only worthwhile piece EUROPE ever did, pfoehhh.
December 13th, 2008 at 23:41Hush, gimme some Paracetamol for me and a double dose of Haloperidol for Purplepriest 😉
And the electric chair for the Swedish reporter,.. hèhèh.
How dares he,… LOL
Reminds me of my yought (early seventies) when we argued about who was the best band. Ya had oldfarted Beatles fans, silly Stones fans and genuine Purple fans. LOL
Ah the good old days,… and it seems that nothing has changed yet.
OK,.. I Igree with the author of this piece of writing.
Purple are indeed “still my r&r heroes”.
But ask a Europe fan the same (hellooohoo,… any Europe fans? Nop!)
Hey,… Purplepriest,… I do like Ians whoarrrgghhhhhhhhhs.
December 14th, 2008 at 18:10What’w wrong with him whoarrrgghhhhhhhhhing?
He’s the best whoarrrgghhhhhhhhher I’ve ever heard.
So,… let ‘m whoarrrgghhhhhhhhh on.
whoarrrgghhhhhhhhh & roll.
My Dear Nero
Are you from the land of cartoons?
If you are, you ll know why I begin with this.
Nero, one of the great charactres in Belgian cartoons but sometimes very strange people over there…..Rare jongens, die Belgen , Asterix! Hehehe
Ok then….
I dont know what Haloperidol is, something to calm me down?
It will be mosterd na de maaltijd, but I ll try to Wikipedia that one after this post.
Right now I m thinking about taking a glass of diet coke mixed with Sunny Bay Rum from Dirx 3 instead of other kind of medicine.
In general I pick Ibuprofen, I like the noises in my stomache when I take those last ones, for headaches, lack of sleep and the pains in my joints.
When I was writing the above I had need for no medicine at all, I was just annoyed by such a stupid review.
I mean, If you do like to write a review try a bit more serious
This is blabbering from from a 14 year old girl in love with Steve Morse
Which is fine with me but I noticed she s an adult
I love both EUROPE and Deep Purple, saw them both live as well.
But everyone knows by now I cant stand whats going on in that last band for many years
Btw, Nero, Katarina seems to me a SHE not a HE and married as well, pity her husband.
Well, maybe he resembles Steve, smiles a lot as well.
The electric chair is a bit mucho, me thinks.
December 14th, 2008 at 19:20A cold shower always works for me when I want to reset my brain
Very cheap alternative for ECT as well
So, Katarina, take one and tell me if you have recollected your sanity, ok?
Holy Moly!!!!
I just looked that one up.
Haloperidol
It s been invented in Belgium, so that could be another give away where you come from.
More serious, I read it and it seems to me you wish me lots of side effects as well
Side effects resembling my reuma kinda pains
Now I need something, yes.
December 14th, 2008 at 19:26BTW
I dont like the Whoarggggggggggggggggggggghhhhssssssssssss
I loved his god like screams in the eraly 70 s
Sometimes he almost reached that like on the album Toolbox
But in general he lost the voice for that many moons ago
I still think because of, like someone put it on an other forum, he destroyed that voice by running over it with a truck of tobacco and alcohol, such a shame
One should cherish such a gift
Do you really like the mutulated screams?
I reckon you like the advantages of old age as well?
I will pray for you you will deterioate soon, ok?
Bless ya and goodnight
December 14th, 2008 at 22:29Sorry guys, I happen to like Deep Purple very much, and I’m married yes, which does not stop me from liking Steve Morse playing AND his smile as well. And I have to say I dont think much of Final Countdown either. And I don’t think 14 year old girls fall in love with Steve Morse…
December 14th, 2008 at 22:37And I noticed writing on a page like this is a waste of time, which I happily leave to you If you have time to write shit that has nothing to do with music…
And to the webmaster, would you kindly remove my texts from this site, since, you’ve changed them and since it seems they inspite poeple writing shit!!!!
December 14th, 2008 at 22:40Purplepriest1965
Ik hoop dat de cijfers niet je geboortejaar aangeven, want in dat geval moet ik helaas constateren dat je toch enigszins in het verleden bent blijven hangen.
Word wakker.
Blackmore & Deep Purple : Ain’t gonna happen no more.
December 14th, 2008 at 22:46purplepriest1965 … an intelectual dwarf in the mix ah
It’s people like you that take the fun out of music..
December 15th, 2008 at 02:49another comment: YES I love Steve Morse!!! And I love Gillan and the others too. Same thing goes for Angus and Malcolm Young, Brian Johnson, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Scott Gorham, John Sykes and the list could be very long.Surely not only 14-eens would get a very special feeling seeing the band live that they loved for so many years.
December 15th, 2008 at 09:07What about Positive vibes, upplifting things? I hate negative vibes! And I don’t think you’re a groupie because you see a few concerts! It’s nice actually, and you get the opportunity of seeing a bit of the world too.
@ Katarina:
Please tell me where you think we changed your text. You can do it via email if you prefer.

December 15th, 2008 at 10:23You wont get through to Priest…….he lives in his own little world of Blackmore fanaticism and pain.
He is just cant believe that Blackmore is no longer with us………he has gone to meet the woodland elves, and dance about the forest fire picking at his ‘hurdy gurdy’………..
RB no longer contributes to rock music, we cant compare, or insult his work, we cant say his talent has diminished with age, or excesses…………..because his ability to play and record rock music doesnt exist today.
…………thats what eats away at Priest.
One should cherish such a gift.
December 15th, 2008 at 13:39Katarina and Rascal,
‘Nuff said by the both of you. Good stuff. Ah, my main man Steve Morse. The Purple saviour arriving roundabout 15 years ago now. And is that smiling and musical genius a contagious thing? Not sure any of the Marks were smiling much especially when the minstrel was fiddling. But yes, each and every Mark brought great, different muzak to the DP machine.
Finally, and as broached on other earlier posts, said minstrel is in fact a brilliant fiddler, banjo player. But issues of the head haven’t done him well over time. That Haloperidol is nasty stuff. Maybe too harsh of a medicine for the minstrel and the purplepriest?
Off to the joint for a pint of Stella Artois and chalk up me cue….Vavoom!
Peace, :>
Ted
December 15th, 2008 at 16:19What utter tosh Purple Priest has written. I think he has perhaps poked himself up his own singular bottom.
December 15th, 2008 at 17:23Complete doh dah
Katarina
Talking about writing, ahem, stuff that has nothing to do with the music.
That was the main reason I reacted to your post.
I don t care if you want to have his kids or whatever but it was YOU that failed to write much anything else.
Which can be fine, at this moment I just felt like this. And ofcourse I do have an issue with Mister Smiley, hehehe
Lots of people here write about other stuff as well , espescially me I d have to admit probably.
Sorry if you feel that bad.
You are new here?
Maybe you should not take it that hard?
Very often I tend to react too sensitive as well .
Sometimes thats very understandable. In general I tend to think it s ridicilous to take it very personal.
Espescially when you feel offended by people who are just here to hurt someone.
Which is NOT my goal.
I just try to take certain people like Rascal, Stefan and Tracy not too serious anymore.
Espescially when the jumping the bandwagon thing occurs, hahaha
Partly the problem here is that it s all very direct communicating and lots of stuff gets lost in the process.
According to lots of reactions towards me, I conclude that they THINK they know me.
I d never dare say something like that about people here.
Writing here represents only a part of a persona.
Which brings me to Jabadawi and Zane
Dont know them
Should I?
They also appear to think who and what I am?
Funny, I never would promote myself as something gigantic intellectually, so why this reaction?
Ted, thanx for the concern towards my health.
December 15th, 2008 at 20:28Noone needs bad medicine.
Btw, its a myth DP during Blackers had a problem with smiling.
I think that was mainly an attempt to create an image.
Katarina!
The main issue here, is Purpleprist´s constant whining and dwelling on the past! He refuses to recognise the fact that Blackmore is gone, and now is chief fairy in the forest of poofsters playing his lute!
No one here denies The man in blacks importance in the history of Deep Purple, but they have moved on….Priest on the other hand… hasn´t!
Since day one of my entrance of this fabulous blog, Priest have ranting on about Blackmore this,Blackmore that…no matter what the topic was about! I admit it was fun at the start, but it finally gets annoying!
He is living in denial and refuses to aknowledge that the band has progressed, and today are well adjusted, content and happy! His adolation for “blackers”, has in my opinion become a obsession and he´s probably beyond reach! After all….whatever planet he´s on is most likely very, very far away!
You have to be overbearing with the poor sod….he just can´t help it! Just take it for what it is…..after all…most of his rantings is “clearly quite absurd”! SKÅL PÅ DIG!

December 15th, 2008 at 02:49
Another smashing post on the blogs, what a nice cold week it is so far.
Brilliant!
Blackmore internet crusading amongst the Purple force comes complete with pea shots, eggs, and fruit of one’s choice, LOL!
December 16th, 2008 at 06:59Priest dared to comment on someones ability to write ‘interestingly’…………And we dont know you?
Dont take it too seriously………..you protest too much……….and youve missed the point.
December 16th, 2008 at 09:12Yes, I probably should have made a shorter text.
The point?
Your point?
December 16th, 2008 at 10:55Short…….or…………long….
It doesnt matter which …….its just the same Boring Blackmore Bollocks……
Your presumption that your own remarks cannot be offensive…………..is just a chink in your prized self believed secret persona……..
So unaware
Walls come tumbling down……..
The whole point
December 16th, 2008 at 12:24Imho, the only issue is that healthy critism can’t be said ,without causing panic and insult psychosis ,this on many DP8 matters .
Cencorship and blind fanaticism that’s what I call dwelling… IN PRESENT, or in any time…
Just being neutral and realistic…nobody can predict following line ups, nobody ever could.
Nobody knows what special events or shows ever possible could be presented for all fans in 2009.
And at last, Ritchie is in this PRESENT days in good shape, and altough without a sticky smile on his face , his moody, exciting and always unpredictable playing, even in BN,it stays most recognizable and touching for every true fan!
Rascal,Ritchie can’t play rock anymore?!At least update yourself.I know now why you love the circus …when you can make such howlers ,you must be the fool!
Cheers to you all, and especially to Ted the Mechanic who proves that Stella Artois sharpens mind and tolerance 😉
😀 …” and the wind in the willows and the birds in the sky” ……hmmmmm …lovely while decorating the christmas trees … 8D …and then lighting the candles… 🙂 …and drinking…..omg…..those flames…Smoke on the table…..Burnnnnnnnnnnnn 😉
Yessssssssssss!!! All my Purple Family members foreverrrrrrrrrr !!!!!!!!!!!!
December 16th, 2008 at 13:18Another righteous half wit………..unable to read, and yet whines on and on………
Are you able to digest what you read? If Stella sharpens the mind I suggest you start drinking.
I said ‘Blackmore no longer contributes to rock music’…….
And Im quite content for him to strum away in his gypsy garb…….but some here arent so happy…………..
December 16th, 2008 at 15:24Crucifixing time again appearantly
It could be the time of the year but here it appears many times a year
And no, I dont feel hurt or sad because of you.
December 16th, 2008 at 18:15Rascal
Boring Blackmore bollocks again?
Its you and some others who always repeat that boring criticism drivel that Its my main thing to promote Blackmore.
December 16th, 2008 at 21:16Very very very boring.
And even more boring then the solo s of the one you desperately trying to defend.
Congratulations.
Come on, shoot your pea’s harder priest, you know the skin is thick around here. Tee Hee… yes, you’re aloud to shoot back, but no spitting, just aim and blow harder.
December 16th, 2008 at 21:53Must be cheap , buying tickets for the bandwagon.
December 16th, 2008 at 22:12Rascal…are you perhaps a tricky lawyer..?
Beer bottles and texts have something in common…always digest the complete content!
The one little line that you picked out from your previous reply is slippy correct…it is only your whole comment that gives away your stupidity 🙂
Ad fundum!
December 16th, 2008 at 22:28Priest has no ammunition………….he complains that I repeat the same criticism……and yet he is oblivious to his own repetitions…….
Another chink……….in his self righteous armour
‘Slippy correct’……….no just ‘correct’. Your ability to mis-quote is a symptom of your inadequacy……..
Hic puer est stultissimus omnium!
December 17th, 2008 at 09:14Merda taurum animas conturbit…

December 17th, 2008 at 21:45Saint Paula Ionantha?
Quercus Robur?
Salix Alba Trista?
Ooops! If I had known me answering Purpelpriest would cause such a reaction! (roflmao).
December 18th, 2008 at 13:40Dear Mr Purplepriest!
I admit I think your first comments to my texts are stupid. I do have a passion for rock music, it makes me lyric. Sorry for those who cant feel that. And you said you felt sorry for my husband because I think Steve Morse has charisma on stage, well my husband also has a passion – biking. And I’m not jealous, even if he rides them every day…
His first comments…………….are stupid??
Middle and the end dont get much better.
Katarina……….Priest a DP fan?? Nahhhh he’s a brainnwashed Blackmore disciple!
December 18th, 2008 at 15:18Rolling on floor laughing my ass off?!
Wow! Had to look that up.
There is even a ROFLMAO on YouTube.
December 18th, 2008 at 15:45Even more confusing.
pp1965, now bewildered gazing into his cup of coffee.
hello…
December 19th, 2008 at 20:00Is there anyone who’s interested in discussing rock music? actually thats why I’m on this site. Thats why i wrote something about the concerts. I’m going to se 5 or 6 ACDC concerts in 2009 and 3 DP concerts so far. I’m really just a rock freak (it seems to me theres not so many of us…)who spend all my savings on concerts and a lot my free time to make drawaings of my favorite artists. It’s confusing that so many people use the internet to get bad feelings out. I may be naive, but I just want to talk about rock music and the way it affects you. And here’s another one for PPriest to look up, roflmfao.
Impressive.
December 20th, 2008 at 01:03Katarina, everything is ok? Take it easy)))
January 15th, 2009 at 20:32Sure, everything is very ok. I’m not taking anything hard. I don’t have so much time writing here actually. I’m very happy DP is making a tour again. I just love their music. I will see them several times I hope. And I will probably write rewievs again. What I want is to express the feeling the music creates. Technically, I don’t know so much about music, I just know I can’t live without it, I listen to rock music 12 hours a day…at least Actually I’m called Katya not Katarina…
January 24th, 2009 at 18:18PPriest!
January 29th, 2009 at 13:44Mr Smiley is a rather sweet nickname. Are you sure you don’t fancy him?
🙂
