From Berlin: Many thanks!

As usual I wasn’t disappointed. The show was cool, although I was standing in a poor place where too many basses were heard. [What? Roger’s and whose else’s? /Rasmus] I’ll choose a sitting place next time:).

It was so nice to hear “Contact lost” and “Perfect strangers” again. But the biggest surprise was “Wring that neck”- wow! When did Deep Purple play it for the last time? With Mr Blackmore??!

Another surprise was a new arrangement of “Hush”. Rod Evans used to sing it quite calmly, now Ian Gillan made it sound like a dynamite! The best performance I’ve ever heard live.

The band was in great form, although Ian seemed to be very tired. But his voice wasn’t. He was singing and screaming as ever. Steve, Don and Ian Paice (whom I could see on a screen only) were cool as well, but Roger was the most vigorous that night. He was literally here, there and everywhere!

Thus I had a great time. I was singing and dancing all the time. By the way, these billboards above the stage were a great idea. Who couldn’t be near the scene, saw the band on them.

Many thanks for “Perfect strangers” with an excellent original solo. For “The battle rages on”. For “Sometimes I feel like screaming”- it was the first time I heard it live. For an unbelievable version of “Hush”. For three songs from “Rapture”. And for “Wring that neck”- what a good idea!

A great show. I like Berlin, I like Max-Schmeling-Halle, and I like Deep Purple so much. I think I’ll go to Berlin again. See you next time!

Pratically every review say thatGillan looks bad…
Why they don’t understand it’s time to stop and recharge…

There seems to be an echo on the blog, thanks to Roberto… isn’t copy and paste a bit convenient?

The last time they played Wring that Neck was a jazz/brass version during the last concerto tour.

it’s a fact that last reviews say that Gillan it’s very tired
and to me the solution is to stop or Gillan throat will explode…

Again, back to my ‘Vagina’ reference……you can never wear out a vagina…..just the tired body that it is attached to. I truly think they could recycle vaginas and make car tires out of them…..he he he. So, stop looking at Gillan (unless you are sexually attracted to him) and listen to him….

    He Kicks Major Ass..

    Cheers

Gillan is a grown man and he knows when it is time to shut it down until then “better to burn out than to fade away”. (p.s. hope I’m not there when his throat “explodes” sounds kinda messy)
    Cheers…time for a cold one!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought this Joanna charactre was something of a die hard, but now I feel puzzled.

1 If you notice Wring that neck for the 1st time since Blackers days, well,,,,,
2 Comparing Rod Evans HUSH with the one by IG seems awkward as well
After all, the BEST EVER version bij IG was already recorded in 69!!!!!
Years later they recorded a lesser version for a single, to be heard on Nobody s Perfect

I suppose these post submitted by Joanna , who s gonna bring her back to the GILLAN days of the Japanese album?, are more than one person?

Hi, Roberto. I’m a librarian and a musician at the Thanks Jimi Festival in Wroclaw every year. :DDD
Hi, Purpliest. I’m sorry, I couldn’t afford any DP concert abroad. I live in Poland those days, where no hard rock gigs were organized, even Omega from Hungary… to say nothing of Deep Purple. No vinyls of them were available at shops, only in Pewex where only dollars were accepted, and 1 dollar was for 100 zl (now is for about 3 zl). I think you ought to read a little about Poland during 70 and 80ies. Polish Radio was fighting against rock bands. So I hope you’ll understand why I couldn’t hear any DP concerts those days. Not everybody could buy such expensive records or go abroad to see Deep Purple. Cheers, J.

    Hi Rasmus,
I said “too many basses”, i.e. Roger’s bass and bass tones from Ian Paice :).

    Me again.
If anybody thinks I can be at every DP concert now, he’s (she’s) wrong. It wouldn’t be possible- I have to go to work:).
So it’s not possible to know all performances of Hush or Wring that neck. What’s more, I could start to go to their gigs in 2002, not earlier.
Also it isn’t possible to know (even now, to say nothing of 80ties or 90ties in Poland) every record of the band. To say nothing of bootlegs. I wish the people who think it is- had more imagination. 😀

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, wasn t there a live dvd shot in 96?
    Poznan?

    Joanna says:

Hi, Purplepriest, first of all sorry for mistakes in my writing your name. I was too busy and dizzy by your comments. 😀
I have got some DP DVDs and bootlegs, but I listened to them long time ago, one time each only, because of lack of time… I do so many things! 🙂 So I can’t remember how the band played some years ago, all the more so as I listen to many other bands. I wasn’t in Poznan- see my previous comment. You may be right, OK, but as for “my” shows, all is like in my review. Asking for a little tolerance, I send you my best wishes. 😀 😀 😀
    Cheers, J.

Btw, my part of the confusion was also that there is a Joanna section on THS something which I now conclude has nothing to do with you and the song Bringing Joanna Back DITTO…..

Actually, there is the official DVD from Poland. This is called LIVE ENCOUNTERS and was shot in Katowice. But before the official release there was a TV broadcast, and it included all songs, not like the DVD where they cut NO One Came for reasons I’m not aware.
