The Battle Raged On in Karlsruhe
The Europahalle was very well filled.
Ian Gillan’s voice was in a very good shape, to my opinion better than in Stuttgart the week before. Especially Steve was in an excellent playing mood. Butt he whole concert seemed to be a bit in a hurry, there were hardly comments or “stories” from IG between the songs.
I can’t remember exactly, but I don’t think that mentioned Contact Lost was dedicated to Pyro. However IG sand Bruce Payne left the venue directly after the show. Although the departure to Munich was announced for 2:00 o’clock, everybody was rushed into the bus already at 0:30.
The setlist was almost the same as in Stuttgart, except Kiss instead of Wrong Man and no Lazy:
Pictures of Home
Things I Never Said
Into The Fire
Strange Kind of Woman
Rapture of the Deep
Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye
Contact Lost – Solo Steve – Well Dressed Guitar
Knocking at Your Back Door
Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming
Wring That Neck
The Battle Rages On
Solo Don
Perfect Strangers
Space Truckin’
Highway Star
Smoke on the Water
Encores:
Hush with Solo Paicey
Solo Roger
Black Night with Guitar Parade
I see they chanced the Set a bit.
KTG,SIFLS and KAYBD are good choices.
But still i would love to see Deep Purple do Anya again, or Gypsy’s Kiss and Under the Gun.
Also i would’nt mind some more Morse Era stuf 😉 .
But it looks like you had a great evening!!

Karlsruhe was a great show! “Lost Contact” was dedicated to Pyro as at the shows before. Ian Gillan said: “… next song is dedicated to a dear friend. He died some weeks ago, his name was Pyro …” and then started Steve. I did not notice a special hurry, but Gotthard finished at 21.00 excactly. Ian Gillan generally don´t speaks much between the songs at this tour.
November 16th, 2008 at 16:59What has happened to IG ? To my opinion he is serious ill ! Watching him in Karlsruhe was frustrating ! And that is serious and not meant in terms of a musical review.
November 18th, 2008 at 20:55This was not the vocalist and man we`have known for decades !! Sorry Ian, take care !
