Odense beats Copenhagen
I just got back from Odense, from my second concert with DP in a week.
The first one was on Wednesday in Copenhagen, and I have to say Odense was the best one – a better sound, Ian Gillan sounded much better, Steve Morse in outstanding topform – not that Copenhagen was bad, absolutely not. Again sold out in Copenhagen 3500 people, and approx 4000 in Odense, almost full.
The set list in Odense was
Fireball
Into the fire
Strange kind of women
Rapture of the deep
Steve Morse solo
Somtimes I feel like screaming
Wring That Neck
Well Dressed guitar
Mary Long
Don Airey solo
Perfect Strangers
Highway Star
Smoke on the Water
Extra
Hush (Ian Paice solo)
Roger Glover solo
Black Night
In Copenhagen there was no Mary Long or Perfect Strangers. But we got Ted the Mechanic and Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye.
I met the band in a meet’n’greet before the Copenhagen concert. It was nice to say hello to them. I asked Ian Gillan among others about the concert in Israel, will it be recorded. He said no, so no news there.
Carsten Ankjær
sold out 3500 people is not so much…
August 11th, 2008 at 19:12I went to the concert in Odense , and i must say
August 11th, 2008 at 19:27that theese “old men” they`re just great.
It`s the best concerts that i`ve seen for years.
Hopefully they will be back soon.
Well, that is the size of KB Hallen…
August 11th, 2008 at 20:11It`s in the news here in Norway that the show in Steinkjer on friday will be filmed, DP is bringing their own filmcrew they say. There is also a DP documentary on national radio NRK P3, today they had vol 2 with coverage of mk 2 and 3, a lot of goodies like DC with one of his first bands, Gentlemen I think it was, vol 3 next week, a 2 hour show startin on monday at 8 pm local time
August 11th, 2008 at 21:42I believe the Coverdale band you are thinking of was….”The Government”
Cheers
August 11th, 2008 at 23:17The Copenhagen gig was great but the heat horrendous, probably due to the big screens on both flanks and the venues construction!
I have only one complaint….well two actually…”Kiss tomorrow goodbye” and “Ted the mechanic” are no bloody good!I surely missed “Perfect strangers”,and they could have thrown in just about any song but “Ted….”!That song must be one of the worst this lineup´s ever written and performed!
Apart from that…Well done boys,I had a great time and looking forward to a new album,a new tour and another gret gig in Copenhagen!!ROCK ON!
August 12th, 2008 at 00:04I saw and heard Deep Purlpe in Odense, and I got exactly the concert I wanted… though I could easily have stayed for a few more hours listening to Deep Purple…Please come back soon.
August 12th, 2008 at 06:39A question to the Keywords:
August 12th, 2008 at 06:45What day would 2008-08-96 be?
Just wondering…
August 12th, 2008 at 09:35ted the mechanic is one of my favourite songs ever
August 12th, 2008 at 10:58Yepp, it was “The Government” Thanks!
August 12th, 2008 at 12:05Ted the mechanic is a classic…in my book.
August 12th, 2008 at 18:36Ngaio – that would be a typo. 🙂
August 12th, 2008 at 19:09Ted is OK, BUT not in a leage like “Perfect Strangers” or “House of Pain” or “Things I never said” or……..
August 12th, 2008 at 19:56Yes great shows … like always.
not better than perfect strangers but WAY better than house of pain!!
August 12th, 2008 at 20:26They finally start throwing in Morse era songs and you complain. Shame on u:-)
August 13th, 2008 at 02:38Chip!
There´s a wide collection to choose from, there are many songs superior to the two I mentioned! For instanse I`d love to hear “Walk on” played live, the most DP meets Pink floyd I´ve ever heard! Rock on!
August 13th, 2008 at 04:58Ottar, I think the filmcrew is for the screens. But if it’s for a future release, it would the great, would’nt it?!:-)
August 13th, 2008 at 10:26It was the 8th time I have seen Deep Purple live.
August 13th, 2008 at 12:04First time was in 1993, with Ritchie still in it.
I went to the Copenhagen show. I thought it was FANTASTIC!
Great performance, really.
I love Ted, and I loved that they played the battle rages on.
Truly great.
I have no complaints about the set or sound, it was simply an amazing show.
It was WARM indeed, but hey…the music was great!
There were camera’s as well in Copenhagen, and I noticed they had microphones through the whole venue.
I DO hope some release will come out of it. But if not…It was a great night! Deep Purple.. I Thaaaaaank yoouu!
wring that neck was back in copenhagen and odense ..YES..
August 13th, 2008 at 13:45nice to meet you guys
Yes, Mk7 and Mk8 got place in the set. That’s the way Mr. ‘Incredible’ Gillan sings this time ’round. And those are the tracks which Mr. Morse really write so it will be the JOY for him on this Deep Purple never ending tour. I can’t stand why someone still complaining ’bout this? Hope I can be there in the show…
August 13th, 2008 at 16:49It might be as you say Eirik, but according to adressa.no and other media it is for a future release. They all have the local promotor as their source, maybe he has misunderstood?
August 13th, 2008 at 21:35Brilliant concert in Odense. The sound was perfect!!
Great live band
