Paicey on the rocks!
Introduced by one of the most boring shows I’ve ever seen (by Andy Timmons), the guys hit the stage at about 22.20 P.M. Not so good in the beginning, the P.A. balancing got o.k. very quickly.
Every one seemed in excellent shape, big Ian sung as good as usual, but let me tell you this: Paicey played the best drumming ever, in dozens of Purple shows I’ve seen in the past. We got a drummer for the next 40 years!
The only little disappointing thing was about the tracklist which hasn’t been changing that much in the last 2 years. At least, “Things I never said” it’s about to become a live classic so….
No doubt I’ll be there next time, but then we all want a new studio record!
Things I Never Said really became DP Live classic and this song really rocks live.
But the setlist is damn bad… all the same… I’m fed up..
July 16th, 2008 at 22:47When the Stones tours they have 72 rehersed songs. They play 5 standards in every show and then choose from the list. Still hungry after all these years
July 17th, 2008 at 00:39I saw the “Rapture Tour” for the first time on their Brussels venue back in 2006 and the setlist was just awesome !!! Don’t you remember “Livin’ Wreck” ? Why do they drop this one off ??? I remember how I was surprised to find “Things I Never Said”, basically the Japanese Bonus and at that point, a lot of people hadn’t heard this one before !!
July 17th, 2008 at 14:36They still can really surprise us ! I’m sure you were as stunned as I was when I heard “I’m alone” or “Demon’s Eye” (back in the setlist). And we all were stunned to find back “The Battle Rages On”.
I agree with you about the current setlist but we can’t forget that since Steve is on board we had the chance to listen the back catalogue and that certainly wouldn’t be possible with Ritchie (except for “Anyone’s Daughter” I admit) !!!
Don’t criticise Ritchie, I m a sensitive guy.
hehehehe

July 18th, 2008 at 23:06Dear Purplepriest!
You´re not by any chance hanging out with “Mad” Michael Schenker are you, indulging in various substances & alcohol??Just a thought! Is it just me,or are you getting just a little bit more off the rails than usual??
July 19th, 2008 at 03:36No, but it might be something to cherish when that happens.
A few moments ago I read in some magazine that he had recovered from his problems and so on…..
Did sound and look(picture)promising!
Talking about MICHAELSCHENKERHIMSELF…..
I have not been able yet to listen to his new album “In the midst of beauty”.
Only the MYSPACE track from a few months ago I know. Sounded very good.
Recorded with Gary Barden and Don Airey….
July 19th, 2008 at 10:58The album got a Huge Thumbs Up review in “Classic Rock Magazine”. They say he is back, better than ever. I’m downloading it now. Should be hread for listening soon. Will let you know…..
Cheers
July 19th, 2008 at 17:02ALL DUE RESPECT TO JESPER, THERE IS A VAST DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE STONES AND DEEP PURPLE. ROLLING STONES MUSIC IS TO BE POLITE, NOT THE MOST DEMANDING THING IN THE WORLD. I WAS SUBJECTED TO SOME LIVE FOOTAGE OF THE STONES RECENTLY AS WELL. LET’S BE NICE HERE AND JUST SAY MUSICIANS AND ROLLING STONES ARE TWO WORDS THAT DON’T BELONG IN THE SAME SENTENCE.
July 21st, 2008 at 17:09I listened to MSG ‘s latest effort.
Maybe it needs a bit more time….
I do not think it fills my expectations.
July 22nd, 2008 at 00:11Please add a video on you tube about this Paice performance!
July 26th, 2008 at 09:15I was in Pistoia too that night. Timmons for me was fairly good, his bassist instead completely out of tune, maybe due to his monitors. Paicey for me was a little bit “behind” (seemed to be in classical “energy saving mode”), except for two or three big shots with his drum pedal. The solo was one his shortest and not so brilliant as usual. He is 60 years old now, he played well the same but yr enthusiam maybe is due to his fame and well known ability…it was the first night of the Summer planned gigs and so Paicey needed time to “carburate” himself. Over all, Steve. He’s not Ritchie but surely has much taste than him, he can play many styles. Alla prossima!!
