I 'd like to let you know how was the Deep Purple gig in Recife-PE Brazil, last september 13th.
Just perfect! They made a terrific presentation. "Unbelievable!" for us that could see them for the very first time in Recife and for Ian Gillan, once he spoke several times to the audience:"Unbelievable!"
For sure, all the 8.000 people enjoyed the whole gig. Many fans came from the neighbour states just to see them.
Before Deep Purple got on stage a local band called "Má Companhia", with two drummers and a Cello on Eleanor Rigby, gave us a rock'n'roll lesson playing many classics (Beatles, Stones, Peter Frampton, Pink Floyd, Chuck Berry, Raul Seixas...).
Then, Deep Purple set the stage on fire. From the first song (Highway Star) till the last, the band was taken by surprise. The energy between them and the audience was something amazing. I've never seen something like that. I guess they just don't expect. Roger Glover and Steve Morse went into ecstasies over the audience vibe. They were just happiness and enjoyment at the stage!
Highway Star was GREAT - this tune alone was worth the pice of the ticket!
Thank God, they are still rocking the world!

It was an amazing presentation! Don Airey made an incredible solo, playing a very famous carnaval song to set the crowd on fire. Gillan is in very good shape, Glover and Paice rocked and Morse showed why he's one of the best guitar players of the world. And how they look happy to be playing!! I missed some classics, like Pictures of Home, Speed King, Fireball, Strange Kind of Woman and Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming, but it was terrific anyway.

A historical day for me and my wife. We're long time fans of Deep Purple. I was born on April, 11, 1974, simply five days after the California Jam concert. I didn't believe that we could ever meet our idols! Me and my wife are co-producers of a hardrock-oriented radio showcalled "Rockstage", broadcasted every Saturday, at 5 pm till 7pm on Transamerica - Recife. We play the classic rock songs we have always listened to, and the new bands as well, together with news from the music world. We had the opportunity to interview Steve Morse. I felt nervous about this but the interview was very natural. The band were totally great people, the're were humble and have a great sense of humour, worried about their relationship with their fans.
At night, The show was fantastic and I was very happy about the enormous meeting of the fans of DP. The audience was feeling "confortably numb". Generations that grew up listening to DP and other great rock bands was fraternizing.
I confess that I cried when the DP played the first chord of Highway Star - and a sucession of beautiful and powerful songs filled the Classic Hall in Recife. Our hometown will never be the same after DP's show!
Thanks to the band, to the promoters and every person that was involved with DP's South American dates.
