The last man standing
Ian Paice has appeared on the dopeYEAH Podcast, interviewed by Rob Cass, and it was a very interesting conversation over an hour long. The blurb reads:
What does it take to be the backbone of one of the greatest rock bands of all time? Ian Paice, the powerhouse drummer of @DeepPurpleOfficial and one of the last original members still rocking the stage, joins us for an unforgettable episode! From setting stages on fire—literally—to working with icons like Paul McCartney and Velvet Underground, Ian shares jaw-dropping stories from over five decades in the music industry. 🎶🔥
In this episode, Ian reveals the untold stories behind Deep Purple’s biggest moments: the chaos of recording Machine Head, why the band broke up and how he got fired from Whitesnake. Plus, he breaks down his legendary drumming style and even teases a new Deep Purple record coming in 2025! 🤯 Whether you’re a die-hard fan or just love rock ‘n’ roll history, this is an episode you can’t miss.
We’ve sat through the whole thing, and can attest it is what it says on the cover. Includes bits of the live performance with the house band. Enjoy!
The takeaway you wouldn’t want to miss (at around 1:00:20):
So, what’s next for Purple?
Well, we’re gonna go back into the studio in a couple of months time and knock out another record. Because we have no serious work to do until the end of this year. You know, everyone needs a break sometimes. […] The record will take us March through probably the end of May. And then we got bits and pieces — [playing] a day here, three days there, around the world. And then we’ll see how it pans out. Everything is being slated towards the end of October and November for everything what you might consider a tour. Then we’ll see what happens after that. But they’re already booking 2026!
Thanks to Mike Whiteley for the heads-up.
Mesmerizing interview, so in depth, perceptive and deeply humane. Great thanks for finding and posting!!!
Am I seeing things or is that the current Purpendicular line up with Nicky Fyffe (isn’t he a son-in-law to Little Ian?) on bass? The interviewer who valiantly stepped in impromptu to sing for an ailing RTW is no DP tribute singer, but I sure prefer his stage presence and demeanor to RTW’s which always makes me uncomfortable.
March 2nd, 2025 at 01:10A really good interview and career retrospective. The first California Jam was April 1974.
March 2nd, 2025 at 04:25Great great great. This man keeps on fascinating me.
March 2nd, 2025 at 09:26Brilliant interview..the man is an absolute legend …and so humble !
March 2nd, 2025 at 10:32It’s also good to get some closure on what happened with Steve and to hear about dear Jon too
Thank you. A very interesting interview, indeed.
March 2nd, 2025 at 11:42And yes, it is the current line-up of Purpendicular (without singer Robby Thomas Walsh). Apart from Nick Fyffe on bass one can also see guitarist Murray Gould in the videos. I saw this line-up of Purpendicular live in January.
New Deep Purple album in 2025!!!
A new record with bits and pieces of work. A proper summer holiday. The year sounds promising.
March 2nd, 2025 at 12:44I like Ian’s candor on the inevitable end of Deep Purple. “…. It has to be They were there; now they’re not”.
Well said.
Really, I mean REALLY looking forward to a new album 😍
March 2nd, 2025 at 18:03Thank you for the Ian Paice interview, as always a nice easy listening experience. I paid more attention to his post DP 1976 career. Not as often heard as the initial years are. Interesting and not surprising with his take on modern day drummers, the same as guitarists from other ‘old school’ musicians. Technically gifted but lacking individual personality in their playing. Not to worry as everything is set in stone from the golden era’s. Cheers.
March 3rd, 2025 at 02:19A couple of Ian Paice’s big influences (& favorites of mine), were Buddy Rich & Gene Krupa. Here’s some interesting examples…

March 3rd, 2025 at 17:19Hi Anna 👋🏼 so nice to meet you here 😃
That mounting influx of wimmin, permeating this site of sites … I feel a minority already. 😑
Hi Anna!
March 3rd, 2025 at 18:29@12
I was told in here that women normally don’t like Purple!
March 4th, 2025 at 12:39And we are really not overflowing in female hormones 🥺 so really don’t think you need to worry Sir 😉
“I was told in here that women normally don’t like Purple!”
That is what I had hoped too. 🤣
March 4th, 2025 at 21:09@14
Well big disappointments for you then 😄😄
March 5th, 2025 at 09:34Dear All at this site and in this forum
I take this opportunity of the super Paicey interview post to thank everybody in here for educating and uplifting me on All Things Purple. The whole level and also respect of the discussions in here is mind- boggling. The fans are a reflection of DP‘s musicianship, grace and humour. This being an experience I have often had at Purple gigs as well. Kudos to the fans of the GOAT of rock.
March 5th, 2025 at 13:13@14 finally, Professor Uwe that fateful day has come to rob your illusion of this very masculin music holding no appeal for females- outing myself as a grown woman who turned DieHardPurple in 1982, seconds after the needle came down on the vinyl and HS blasted from my speakers. I also love other manmusic like Free, Hendrix,Cream, JP, Sabs, Dire Straits, Floyd, all of the Purple FamilyTree, etc.etc.
Sending best wishes and heartfelt thankx for all the links that continue to help me discover the obscure parts of the Purple Universe
Yours Truly, Andrea (not an Italian Male😉☮️)
New album recorded between March and the end of May. I wonder when it will be released?
March 5th, 2025 at 18:26Liebe Andrea, I really hate it when I’m proven so obviously wrong in the glaring public with better arguments!
🤣😘🤣😘🤣😘
(cautiously …) Frau MacGregor, are you a woman now too? 😏
Ok, fessin’ up time: My mom wanted me to be the girl in the family (I had two brothers, I’m down to one now unfortunately), that didn’t work out, but of her three sons I’m the one that looks the most like her and I like to cook (unlike my brothers who are/were hopeless in that department). I also wanted a Barbie doll as a child, but my parents just laughed it away, not taking me serious. But I was! 😂
Already a committed completist at a young age, I was looking for a wife for my dear Major Matt Mason astronaut.
https://www.lulu-berlu.com/upload/image/major-matt-mason—mattel—major-matt-mason-flight-pak–ref6300–loose-p-image-335641-grande.jpg
All the astronauts from NASA in TV always had wives who would worry about them on their missions, which is what astronauts’ wives mostly do (that and looking glamorous)
https://th-thumbnailer.cdn-si-edu.com/TmByo4uojBbXWYyrUpBX7X2vDO0=/1000×750/filters:no_upscale()/https://tf-cmsv2-smithsonianmag-media.s3.amazonaws.com/filer/b8/fe/b8fef0df-21f1-4259-a81f-f45b06234635/life-magazine-cover.jpg
so Matt remaining a bachelor just didn’t seem right. Barbie, though from the same brand (MATTEL), wasn’t scale-right though, she was about 1 1/2 the size of Matt, but I had to make do and thought that a taller wife is better than no wife at all for an astronaut (being the progressive type, I still stand by that statement).
They never bought me Barbie, would you believe? 😥
March 5th, 2025 at 20:08@18
“My mom wanted me to be the girl in the family..”
Pete Townsend had that problem too. Wrote a song about it.

RE: “I also wanted a Barbie doll as a child, but my parents just laughed it away, not taking me serious. But I was! 😂”
Surely you can afford to buy all the Barbie’s you want now that you have all of that lawyer money. 🙂
Maybe my Mom wanted me to be a girl too. Second oldest of 4 boys… How she managed to not murder one of us for the shit we put her through…
March 5th, 2025 at 22:06Whenever a girl of an age that could have been her daughter’s was at our house, my mom would give this real deep heart-wrenching sigh about “opportunities missed”. 🤗 And then I broke the family spell by conceiving a granddaughter (my brothers only had sons) as our first child. Mom was in seventh heaven.
There is this Chinese proverb according to which “A family without a daughter is like a garden without flowers.”
March 6th, 2025 at 00:17“Surely you can afford to buy all the Barbie’s you want now that you have all of that lawyer money. 🙂”
Russ, you always have the best advice! 💕 But I need some help with the choice, this one?

March 6th, 2025 at 03:04@ 18 – “cautiously …) Frau MacGregor, are you a woman now too? 😏Ha ha ha, oh Uwe, how could you??? What do you mean by ‘now’. Well it actually depends on the mood at the time, he he he. Seriously though don’t we all have a touch of the opposite within us. We often hear about the feminine side in males & the masculine side in females. Sure it seems to get a little lopsided at times with certain folk, but each to their own as we say. Cheers.

Maybe I’m biased but I think this guy would be a better choice.

“and I like to cook” – I feel an obligation to inform you here sweetie, the best cooks are men, the best tailors are men, the best hairdressers are men, the best makeup artists are men (with an exception of this lovely lady:

Men are great at whatever you set your mind to!
If you like to do the courtesy and inform me what women are good at, I will forever be grateful ☺️

“Maybe my Mom wanted me to be a girl too. Second oldest of 4 boys… How she managed to not murder one of us for the shit we put her through…“
March 6th, 2025 at 12:08I grew up with 4 elder brothers, and I tell you my mum was happy when she saw me! (How disappointed she became later is a completely different story 😂 why couldn’t or shouldn’t I be able to do the same things as my brothers! She had hopes for a princess that would behave and be kind and quiet 😆 I was the opposite!)
“If you like to do the courtesy and inform me what women are good at, I will forever be grateful ☺️”
(gulps incredulously … ooh, have another drink …) Shall I really do that HERE, Karin?! 😮
Wait, I found something, “precision-mechanical and -electronic work that requires supple finger coordination”!!!

Phew, just about got away with that one. 😇
“She had hopes for a princess that would behave and be kind and quiet …”
I really feel for your mom. 🤐
I’m no fancy cook at all, I just have about 20 different meals down pat (I don’t cook from written recipes), but they are mostly peasant food and classics, stuff like Sauerbraten or spare ribs, stuffed chicken or duck from the oven, fried fish … As Edith always says: “Anything to get the oven dirty with really!” 🤣
March 6th, 2025 at 22:50@ 25
“…that would behave and be kind and quiet …”
Yeah, I have that same affliction. I always have to poke the bear.
@ 24
“the best cooks are men…”
You bet we are. Never met a woman that could cook better than me.
March 7th, 2025 at 00:12@26
Beside being a Fabrikarbeiter, isn’t there anything else you could mention??
@27
Ok Russ, I make a pretty decent hotdog!
And chicken soup!
Not to mention ‘fullskager’, a local dish that is beyond yummy.
Not from my hood but from an island in Denmark where one of my darling brothers was born!
Which dishes do you love to prepare?
March 7th, 2025 at 16:39@26
“I really feel for your mom. 🤐“
March 7th, 2025 at 16:40My mum loved me! We just had different opinions on how a girlie ought to behave 😄
@28
Fulskager is a new one for me; I had to look that one up. I love pretty much any dumpling-based food. I’ll try them.
Don’t short sell yourself; making a good chicken soup is not easy. I’m speaking from experience. Hot dogs are great!!! I love a big beef hot dog wrapped in bacon, grilled & topped with just a little salsa roja.
What dishes to I love to prepare??? Gastronomically I’m all over the place but my favorites are almost exclusively peasant type foods.
Pretty much any pasta, especially Alla Puttanesca or Fra Diavolo with chicken or Fra Diavolo with lobster tails, shrimp, scallops & a little squid (or cuttlefish) ink in the sauce. Beef heart sliced thin, dredged in flour and fried topped with a simple brown sauce made from what’s left over in the pan. Braised oxtails with carrots & onions. Spareribs & kielbasa with sauerkraut & potatoes. Chile Verde. Lamb or goat curry; especially vindaloo. If I feel like getting fancy I’ll make a beef tenderloin pinwheel roast stuffed with spinach, cheese, onions & red peppers with a truffle & horseradish aoli or a poor-man’s steak au poivre (made with a New York strip instead of Filet Mignon).
I didn’t intend to be so long-winded in my reply but you asked 🙂
Don’t ask me about rocks, I’ll never shut up.
March 7th, 2025 at 22:30@26
“Anything to get the oven dirty with really!” Yeah, they all want me to cook for them but then they bitch about the mess I make.
March 7th, 2025 at 22:35When I cook, I’m in charge of a creative process and cannot be bothered with trivial things like putting things back in their place or in the dish washer. I have people to do that for me.
March 8th, 2025 at 02:31@30
I look forward to hear what you think about them Russ!
Allow me to give you some advices:
Chose freshly chopped meat, a combination of veil and ham.
Always chose fresh herbs, NEVER dried ones.
When you prepare the dish, start with forming the meatballs, the diameter is about 2 cm (I can eat 4, René 10 – 12, whereas my brother in his heyday (he was a well trained soldier in France) could easily eat 40! So think 8 pr person) and after preparing those, put them in the fridge.
They become even yummier if you let them stay there for a couple of hours!
When you’re preparing the dough, mix it VERY well together, and don’t forget to use ENOUGH salt. Some are afraid of it being too salty, but the fulskager don’t get that because they are cooked in water.
Funny thing we used to do was that I made (yeah I was bad) some fulskager only with the dough, so nooo meat inside, because it was fun to see my brothers chewing on them, but of course you don’t need to be so mischievous 😈
Then you wrap each meatball in the dough – while listening to Purple songs, preferably Ted the Mechanic and Show me(had to name this so I’m not kicked out of here 😉), and please make sure the dough is firmly wrapped around, no small holes because when they are cooking in the water there will develop yummy juice because of the meat and herbs, but if there is the smallest hole, the juice is wasted.
When you put them in the water, they will sink to the bottom of the pot, and you know they are done, when they emerges to the surface.
I always use a large bowl with a smaller plate in the bottom, turned upside down, so the fulskager don’t stick to the bowl, and I place the fulskager in there when they are finished.
If you’re preparing a lot, it’s a good idea to use two pots, so the fulskager don’t get cold.
I always place a towel over each bowl so they keep warm.
When eating them, serve ketchup, aioli or plain salt. Some try Wasabi, and if course it’s a personal choice, but I don’t like that, because it’s way too harsh, and then you can’t taste that yummy juice!
Unfortunately there aren’t a lot of vegetables in this dish, so maybe a a salad on the side will be welcomed of most people.
My brothers never eat salad with this dish, but ok they have always been more vikings than anyone I know 😍
A very nice cool beer is a good choice or a more dark Merlot, what ever you and your guests prefer, are equally good beverages 😊
And then I will say Bon Appétit 😊🤗
March 8th, 2025 at 14:02@30
“a little squid“, my dad was known for eating them alive! Can be quite dangerous if the suction cups close the throat tube 😱
“I didn’t intend to be so long-winded in my reply but you asked 🙂”
Well I thank you 😃
Regarding rocks! Do you maybe mine diamonds? 😂
March 8th, 2025 at 14:06@32
Ohhhhh Uwe, so you are the long lost twin of René 🤩
He will be happy to learn he is not the only one behaving like that in the kitchen!
March 8th, 2025 at 14:12Me? I’m just happy nothing blew up the kitchen and our house is still firmly planted where it was in the beginning 🥰
I never mind doing the cleaning afterwards 😊
Danish food recipe recommendations are like Vatican advice on kinky sex – adopt only sparingly!
March 8th, 2025 at 22:21@33
Thanks for the tips, that’s pretty much how I would have approached it. What cut of veal do I use… I assume it should be a little bit fatty, the shoulder? Also when you say ham do you actually mean pork?
March 13th, 2025 at 19:56@34
No, diamonds are not really a thing in the US. Meaning that there are not that many occurrences of diamonds here and they aren’t that plentiful in the places where they can be found. When I used to dig it was for stuff like this: https://www.mindat.org/gallery-3398.html?frm_id=pager&cform_is_valid=1&min=&loc=&u=3398&potd=&pco=&d=&showtype=0&photoclass=0&phototype=0&checkall=0&rockmin=0&filtmin=0&filtcountry=0&loctxt=&keywords=&mycol=1&orderxby=1&grid=0&submit_pager=Filter+Search
March 13th, 2025 at 20:40@37
What cut of veal…?
I guess I always chose 10-15% fat in the pork (sorry for the confusion, but I always get pork, yes, ham was just he first word that came to my mind, maybe because of these brilliant guys:
https://youtu.be/ycKNt0MhTkk?si=QhKgM3vvGDU9OzPO
Even though I know they are talking about SPAM and not ham 😄😄
Sorry I’m sleepy 🥱
But the veal ought to be leaner 😊
@38
March 14th, 2025 at 00:13Woah!
For jewellery?
Karin,
Never for jewelry… that would be sacrilege. There are lots of people who collect minerals in their original, natural form. And I don’t mean those nut-job healy-feely people that are convinced that crystals have magical powers. People that believe in real science and appreciate them for their uniqueness and aesthetics.
Do you mean meat that has been put through a grinder? I assumed that they should be made with finely-chopped (minced) meat. There is a distinct difference between the two. Sorry to pepper you with questions but my day job is working with meat so I have a pretty thorough knowledge of how animal flesh is prepared for sale to the masses.
March 14th, 2025 at 09:19@40
And I am so sorry for not responding correctly!
Yes indeed it is minced meat, finely-chopped.
It’s very important that you are able to mix the meat with the FRESH (😉) herbs.
Oh now I am hungry!
“And I don’t mean those nut-job healy-feely people that are convinced that crystals have magical powers.” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I do so much agree with you.
Being a homeopath people automatically believe I am a “nut-job healy-feely” person! Nothing could be further from the truth!
Actually homeopathy is a real science, I don’t have time to explain properly but I can tell you that in Germany, amongst other countries, there are hospitals only with homeopathic treatment!
Please tell me how the fulskager turn out 😃
March 14th, 2025 at 15:53Thanks Karin… that makes sense as ground meats are often prepared from the less desirable (not tender) leaner muscles and then mixed with varying amounts of fat. I wanted to make sure that I would be preparing it correctly and it seems that my culinary instincts were correct. I’ll give it a try the next time I have 2-3 days off from work in a row. Can’t wait… 😋
March 15th, 2025 at 07:39“Actually homeopathy is a real science, I don’t have time to explain properly but I can tell you that in Germany, amongst other countries, there are hospitals only with homeopathic treatment!”
That is really nothing, Karin, that needs to be mentioned here in public. 🥴 Bloody embarrassing for Germany and a misappropriation of state health insurance funds. 😑
A real science? It defies any accepted scientific validation. Explain to me what that Voodoo-shaking of fluids (“potentizing” or “potentiating”) to create “homeopathic potencies”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYziBvx6uQU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESzYQhMT6Q8
is supposed to physically or chemically do? Whenever homeopathy is pressed to deliver proof for its claims it retreats into the realm of spiritual and esoteric hogwash, it’s a quasi-religion and its chief deity is called PLACEBO. There is no law in nature according to which reduction of the concentration of an ingredient to almost nil enhances its potency. It’s all abracadabra.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESzYQhMT6Q8
Fine if people want to practice it under freedom of expression, not fine if a state’s general health insurance has to waste money on it (and avoids striking it as a recognized medicine for fear of the homeopathy lobby). We don’t pay the fares of people travelling to church either.
[I really like Lady Gaga. And ‘Schulmedizin’. That actually saves lives and cures diseases.]
March 15th, 2025 at 09:19@42
Russ, it’s not a time consuming dish to prepare 😄
March 15th, 2025 at 10:46@43
Uwe, there are elements in this I can’t write in public.
But I can assure you, and ANYONE who have ever been treated by a decent and skilled homeopath like myself, can convince you that this is in fact proper science.
I.e.: I can cure a full blown flu in 4 hours! How many doctors can do that?
I will not blow my own horn here, that is so unappealing, (ohhh too late you say ☺️) but if you ever came in severe distress, you really would want me by your side! And I would stay with you until you are alright again!
And I am not against what the doctors can do for you, not at all. Intelligent doctors are aware of the strength of homeopathic medicine!
And regarding the placebo effect, my darling doglet Anton does not have any clue what so ever regarding placebo, but when we got him, 8 weeks old, my first thought was: such a new puppy has to be healthy. But he wasn’t, and soon he showed all the signs of being an allergic 😰 and he was in fact dying 😓
To make a very long story short, he lost most of his fur, and he was not able to be saved by any vet 😨 oh man it was horrible 😰😰😰😰 but I started to test him and in collaboration with his new vet (a wonderful vet who also is a homeopath btw) I found remedies to him.
It took two treatments with the right remedies, and then the little pup woke me up in the middle of the night when he needed new remedies. (He also got treated during the day, but his little body needed a lot of attention) That went on for some months, and when he was cured, he never woke me up again during the night.
Today most of his fur is in place, he is healthy, he is cheeky and happy, and even the vet is impressed that Anton survived! He just turned 7 years old, 1st of March, and if you saw him, you could never detect he had been so deadly ill.
Another example (and sorry I can’t mention human beings in here, but that is not ethical) (but I have lots of those too) is plants, bushes, trees and lawns, they do not either have any idea of placebo, but I can assure you that I have treated enough plants, bushes etc to know that homeopathy is a great cure for those too!
If you would like to know more, give me a hint and I would love to explain.
I am aware that the homeopathic way has been destroyed and mistrusted because of these things:
– Some companies making homeopathic medicine are mixing remedies together that aren’t fit to be mixed together.
Homeopathic remedies does not have any molecules but they have fluctuations! And those fluctuations are the interesting part!
But some remedies can dissolve each other, and there are actually a lot of remedies that work as antidotes to each other! And when mixed together they end up being plain water and have no effect at all.
And that is why pupils of the Swedish school always treat patients with single remedies!
– Another sad example are those homeopaths who never have learned this properly!
I have seen, and helped, a lot of people who has been mistreated.
– Unfortunately a lot of, oh what was it Russ called them “ those nut-job healy-feely people” 😂😂😂 reading auras and other very foolish things, healing people at a distance etc, I can’t respect any of that! And unfortunately these nut-jobs are being categorised in the same group as serious homeopaths, and we are not benefiting from that!
Uwe, you know as well as I that a lot of infections today are multi-resistant to any kind of antibiotics, but guess what happens when I have the opportunity to help! ( I guess you know the answer deep inside, but you also have to admit that you are just as stubborn as I was (yes WAS) regarding acknowledging DC! And that is why you will be ready to accept and tolerate and actually want this kind of treatment when you have been treated and have felt this amazing and wonderful treatment in your own body!)
Ok I do have to stop here otherwise Svante and Nick will raise their eyebrows and maybe they finally kick me out of here, but please if you would like to hear my side of this (and I tell you, you will be thrilled and think: WHOAH 🤩) then let me know and I will finally write that book I’ve dreamed of doing! 😄
And now I will in fact read the rest of your post! ☺️
March 15th, 2025 at 11:42Uwe!
Do you know this?
https://youtu.be/Y4pgXp7X2Hc?si=L-MJ8-FGs9yGxRyx
In some other thread I mentioned this band regarding if a song of theirs is a stomper, so I’m asking the same question here!
March 15th, 2025 at 12:14Is this song with Cheap Trick actually a stomper?
@ 45 RE: “…Homeopathic remedies does not have any molecules.”
Everything has molecules. Everything is made of chemicals whether or not it is organic. Not trying to be disrespectful or make fun of you and please don’t take this as if I am. The average person has very little knowledge of (or an appreciation for) science; even though they have had it taught to them repeatedly through the course of their schooling. For some reason it just doesn’t stick or they willfully choose to ignore it.
Just my two cents.
@ 44
Its not that I think it would be time-consuming to prepare. It’s just that working 2 jobs and all the other stuff I’ve got to do sucks all of the energy from me. If I have only one day off from work in a week I’m too tired both mentally and physically. It is one thing to whip up something I’ve been making for 40-50 years but making something for the first time requires a lot more.

Arrhhhh man Russ! I forget to explain everything!
Yes yes yes! OF COURSE there are molecules in the remedies, but what I meant is this: a remedy, i.e Streptococcus, there are no molecules from that infection, but there are fluctuations!
Or a remedy made from a flower, there are no molecules from the flower, but there are (please say this with me 😄) FLUCTUATIONS !
Oh Russ, I am used to 4 older brothers, so I really do believe I am hardening for anything! 😄 but thank you 🙏🏼
Of course, you’re right! I have made Fulskager many times, so I can almost prepare the meal sleeping ☺️🤭
March 16th, 2025 at 18:28I believe when you speak about “flu”, Karin, you mean a bacterial cold. That is not what I mean: To me flu/influenza is a viral infection only a prior vaccination can prevent you from getting. It is a potentially deadly disease —> Spanish Flu in 1918/19. I am not aware that anybody with a viral flu breakout can be “cured” within hours by any type of – homeopathic or other – existing medicine. If you can, I will support your Nobel Prize nomination.
I’ve had the flu twice (swine flu, which was harsh, but thankfully short, two days of high fever, and a regular flu which was a lot worse and much longer-lasting – it went on for weeks), I know what I’m taking about, it feels nothing like a cold, I didn’t even have a runny nose in both cases, it was more like a malaria attack (which is also viral). In nine out of ten cases, people say “flu”, but mean a severe cold, it drives me nuts. Influenza is completely different to a cold, if you catch flu your body goes as an adult from feeling perfectly fine to 40°C within an hour or two, I’ve experienced it. Most people have never had a real flu, good for them. But I did – and since then I get flu shots religiously every year.
Yeah, the silly and banal ‘I Want You To Want Me’ is closer to a stomper, Karin, not that I like it. I’ve seen Cheap Trick live too often (and been disappointed every time) to really rate them as a great or even just good band, they’re terribly messy. I know they appeal to females with their brand of Power Pop, but I can’t take them serious. A mediocrely talented pop band with a noise merchant of a lead guitarist – Nielsen playing minor scale solos to major key songs is a strict no-no to me, any guitar tech with Molly Hatchet or .38 Special knows better than to do that. Zander’s thin and superficial pop voice does nothing for me and neither does Petersen’s simplistic bass playing on his novelty 12-string basses that live sound like crap and make their band sound so murky. I have quite a few of their albums trying to get behind why people like them, but I just can’t. Most overrated US band ever IMHO.
It’s not that I mind lightweight pop tunes, but I want them done well:

March 16th, 2025 at 22:45(😆 Cheesiest 80s vid featuring a blonde with a knotted blouse ever, but the beautiful guitar solo is in a major scale over major chords as is proper!)

“I am not aware that anybody with a viral flu breakout can be “cured” within hours by any type of – homeopathic or other – existing medicine. If you can, I will support your Nobel Prize nomination.” – then by all means nominate and support me sweetie 🥰
The flu is not bacterial, it’s a virus.
On the other hand, a bacterial throat infection is only about 1 day away to be cured! But of course I can say this, you have to see it for yourself to believe it, don’t you!? (Even though I have done this 100s of times 😊)
When a person is infected with the flu, it invades all the cells and if I can help the person (or my self) very quickly, the homeopathic medicine immediately stops the virus from multiplying in the cells.
If the flu is more than 24 hours old in the body, then it takes more than 4 hours! (I dare you! Come here with the flu and see what I really can do☺️😉) (and I can add to your great mistrust in me by saying this: the second the homeopathic remedy is in the person, (I give remedies orally) the person is not infectious anymore!)
And Uwe, I actually do know the diff between a cold and the flu (thank you very much 😉).
“Yeah, the silly and banal ‘I Want You To Want Me’” – well I like it, it’s so cheerful! (Compared to ‘Pictures Within’ where I couldn’t stop crying! Ohh man it was at the same time lovely and very hard for me to listen to 😰💜)
“I know they appeal to females with their brand of Power Pop, but I can’t take them serious.” – 😄 guess it’s because you’re not a female then!
“noise merchant of a lead guitarist“ – well he is certainly no Blackmore, Morse or McBride, but for a couple of songs, he is fun 😃
And the drummer looks like a very serious accountant or, dare I say this: lawyer 😄
“Zander’s thin and superficial pop voice does nothing for me and neither does Petersen’s simplistic bass playing on his novelty 12-string basses that live sound like crap and make their band sound so murky” – 🤣🤣
Are you ok today? It seems to me you didn’t sleep well😉
Thank you for the link, I like that song too! 😉
Wow, just listening to Nazareth with ‘Morning Dew’!
https://youtu.be/XLoB3vOqdL4?si=D5MNMVBophS36fBH
I do prefer this with Episode Six, and before you sigh and throw your hands in the air saying: ‘wimmin!’ I’ll tell you why: Episode Six sounds way more innocent and pure. And innocence is what goes very well with that song 😊
March 17th, 2025 at 12:30I’m with you: The Episode Six version is more innocent and charmingly naïve, the Nazareth one more a progressive workout and played with greater skill. Episode Six weren’t really a rock band.
I think I heard Krokodil’s (a Swiss band) version first.

But many artists have covered it:

Including here,
https://youtu.be/_AsHvTZASFk
with the man (renowned for his penchant for blondes, certain Swedish actrice ones among them …
https://youtu.be/IZr6AE-u2UM ),
who was once slated as a potential DP singer in Mk I days, but then they thought – according to Ian Paice – he wasn’t good enough! 😂
It all turned out for the best for everyone: Had Roddie joined DP, he couldn‘t have joined The Faces. And it was Mk II‘s 1971 US tour opening for The Faces (vastly more popular in the US than Purple back then) that broke them there. The Faces were also very gracious to the Purple upstarts and invited them to their legendary after show parties which attracted so many wimmin folk that, as Little Ian himself has gratefully noted, there were always some left over (of Rod Stewart taste quality!) for DP. After all, being best buddies means sharing resources.😂
March 17th, 2025 at 19:02@51
But Uwe, isn’t it Grateful Dead who are responsible for ‘Morning Dew’?
And re Rod S, that’s not ‘morning dew’ he is doing here!?🤔
“there were always some left over (of Rod Stewart taste quality!) for DP. After all, being best buddies means sharing resources.😂 “ – see, this I don’t get! I’ve always wanted to slip him a throat lozenge with some comforting propolis in it for that severe cold he always seems to have 😮💨🤧 but appealing he is not 😉
March 18th, 2025 at 05:46Rod Stewart is the singer of the Jeff Beck Group version of Morning Dew, Karin, which I linked just before the vid of him making out with Britt.
Rod Stewart as singer and Ronnie Wood as bassist were members of the Jeff Beck Group before they both moved on to the Steve Marriott-bereft Small Faces, turning them into The Faces – with Marriott forming Humble Pie with Peter Frampton instead.
Bonnie Dobson, a Canadian folk singer, wrote the song about the aftermath of a nuclear holocaust as early as 1961, I would imagine that a young Kate Bush must have given her a few listens …
https://youtu.be/qgl0YfJiz80
Tim Rose made the song popular in 1967 with a radically new arrangement that is generally viewed as defining (also used by Episode Six):

Ok, but wasn’t it Grateful Dead who is the maker of ‘Morning Dew’?
And thank you for the links, the coming night where I yet again can’t sleep, I will listen to them thoroughly 😊
March 20th, 2025 at 15:58Bonnie Dobson wrote the original song. Jerry Garcia from the Grateful Dead is sometimes co-credited because he added lyrics or whatever later on. Tim Rose claimed a co-credt to the song at one point to because of his re-arrangement, that went to court, but I believe Ms Dobson won.
Whatever – it’s a nice and succinct song though the Grateful Dead version isn’t a favorite of mine. I like Robert Plant’s version though.

Yeah ok Mr Plant isn’t bad at all, but still I prefer Episode Six 😊
March 21st, 2025 at 11:52Yes, we know, Karin, it was all foreseen in you poems almanac at school already!
