Supercharged rock indeed, it sounds a lot like it could have been on =1. Although the vocalists are younger so the screams are more of what we all were familiar with in the older days, with the ‘leather lunged’ screamer. Don Airey still loves to rock ‘n roll with that ‘metal’ approach, at least on this track. Thanks for posting. Cheers.

Hey, that could have been a cool DP number as well. Kinda GILLANish in its frenzy.

Carl always sounds a bit to me like he could have been one of the many Rainbow singers (there were five last I counted). But then Don is allowed to have his influences from his days with Ritchie too.

Well, that song is wicked cool !! A lot of Bruce Dickinson in the vocals, and the Hammond is front and center,
    Rock on,Don !

I am not sure where to place this rather concerning story of the ‘second coming’ of the Vikings. Here in the southern regions of planet earth I foolishly hoped that we innocents residing down here were safe. It appears not. Although Australia and more importantly Tasmania were not mentioned, that could give us a little more ‘free’ time before we have t0 run to the hills. Cheers.

@ 3 – yes it is a more Bruce Dickinson style vocal upon my second listen. Another ‘leather lunged screamer’. That is a rock music journalists saying from about 40 odd years ago regarding Ian Gillan. Most probably the Black Sabbath Born Again review from my distant memory. We could also throw a few other heavy rock vocalists in there, Rob Halford perhaps. Cheers.

Epic fail IMHO, rapper. Sure have a side gig but when 2/5 of Deep Purple are in the band, and those who write the music – keyboards and guitar, then it seems an odd idea. I’ll probably stream the album – just the once. Did Don really write the intro to Mr Crowley?

Halford is hugely variable as a singer, I’ll give you “leather lunged screamer”, you deaf wombat!!! 🤨

Screaming is just one of the few things he does well.

PS: The popular picture of Vikings has never held any fascination for me – I mean where is their lasting cultural influence today compared to Ancient Egypt, Greece (the country, not the musical), Rome or the Americas Cultures such as Incas, Mayas and Aztecs? They did not develop reading and writing and spent most of their time attacking societies more developed than theirs, a raider culture. They have as little appeal to me as the Germanic tribes which basically just held up Roman civilization which plays a much greater role in today’s Western Life. Their vintner skills were crap too, so I’ve heard. 😂

Of course there was more to Viking culture than horned helmets (which they didn’t have except for ritual/sacral purposes), longboats, plundering & pillaging or their deities mythology. But those are generally the only aspects of their culture that find popular reception today. I can’t think of too many heavy metal songs paying tribute to the Viking’s use of Earth’s magnetism to navigate the seas, their likewise navigational abilities to read the stars or their trade from North American settlements which they established, being likely the first Europeans there.

But with so many Scandinavians here, I am waiting to be enlightened!

Hagar is a real cutie, isn’t he 😃

Well it was a teaser to show how little enlightenment we really have got in the Danish flat country 🤓

If Helgar knew Hagar was carrying on like that it would be a very different story. Cheers.

    @11
Oh MacGregor Hagar’s wife is called Helgar in English! In Danish her name is Helga 😊
And I have a feeling that the writer of Hagar makes sure we know that his wife is very well aware of his shortcomings 😉😄

  13. 13
    MacGregor says:

@ 12- sorry Karin, a typo there & yes it is Helga, aka ‘she who must be obeyed’ and that is good thing too. Imagine if Hagar had the last say in everything, the world would be chaos indeed. Hang on, the world is chaotic, hmmmmmmm, maybe Hagar has had too much influence over the years. Cheers.
