You can like it or not
Lazy Sod from the latest album =1 will be released as a physical single on October 11, 2024 (it was previously available only virtually). The new physical formats include digisleeve CD and 12″ maxi single vinyl. The track will be backed by live versions of Highway Star and Lazy, both recorded at an unspecified date in 2022. Previous physical single Pictures of You was backed by a couple of tracks from Milan 2022.
This release can be pre-ordered through the official store.
Thanks to our editor emeritus Benny Holmström for the info.
Still one of the best tracks on the album for me, a good idea to release that first up. Just wondering how many people buy ‘singles’ these days? I have no idea & as it is a few months after the album, does it seem a tad too late perhaps. There are collectors out there though, add this one to the list Uwe. Cheers
September 12th, 2024 at 08:55Releasing Lazy Sod as a physical single is okay, but what’s the point of adding the umpteenth live versions of classic songs to it? Wouldn’t it be much better to include the tunes from the recent sessions that didn’t make it to =1?
September 12th, 2024 at 10:11FYI,
September 12th, 2024 at 10:23According to Amazon, Highway Star is recorded live in Milan Italy on October 17th 2022 and Lazy is recorded live in Sofia Bulgaria on May 29th 2022.
“There are collectors out there though …”
You have summoned me, Master?

Uwe I do admire your admiration for Nosferatu. He is a classic indeed, keep it up. Cheers.
September 12th, 2024 at 21:25It’s ridiculous that the live tracks for =1 were only available on vinyl (quite why there wasn’t a 2 CD version is beyond me) and it is equally ridiculous that Ear don’t identify which gigs the tracks come from. Hard core fans are nothing if not pedantic and this sort of casual marketing gets right up my pipe.

The magnificent BÖC, proof how you can be American, play hard rock and still not come out sounding like KISS or Grand Funk Railroad! 😅 (Hey, I like all three!)
September 13th, 2024 at 13:20@ I love Nosferatu.. will definitely catch the new movie. 😀
September 13th, 2024 at 13:47Thanks Uwe for that Blue Oyster Cult song Nosferatu, a classic indeed. Cheers.
September 14th, 2024 at 01:45Having bought the Deluxe Box Set with three vinyl EP’s, I wonder how many singles I still have to buy to have it all. Well, this is the first chance to hear how Simon plays THAT solo on Highway Star.
September 14th, 2024 at 05:38I have now ordered the Japanese paper sleeve double CD release of =1 from the King label which features
1. When a Blind Man Cries (Live in Milan 2022)
2. Uncommon Man (Live in Milan 2022)
3. Smoke on the Water (Live in Milan 2022) (now that is a song I hardly have any live versions of, really looking forward to it!)
4. Strange Kind of Woman (Live in Sofia 2022)
as bonus tracks on the second CD. The first two tracks have already come out with the Pictures Of You single, the other two no doubt sometime will in the future as they inevitably always do, some tour edition, whatever. I just couldn’t wait. Besides, I’m anally retentive, so I need any Purple album in a handful of different versions. 😏
A personal dream of mine would be something like “The Morse Years – Deep Purple Live 1994-2022” with ALL Mk VII/VIII songs ever played live (a good share of them were!). Now that would be something. They could put the Mk II material separate on a bonus disc so it doesn’t disturb the flow! 😁

I have a soft spot for Depeche Mode too, mind you, back in the days when we still had record shops, they were always filing neighbors to DP!
