Engl has introduced a new Steve Morse Signature 20 amplifier. It is a compact, 20-watt all-tube amp. Here’s Steve explaining what, how, and why:

Thanks to Music Radar for the heads-up.

    Guys, help me out. I will need good reasons to convince my wife that I absolutely NEED this amp. Not WANT, NEED. 😀

    Not succumbing to GAS (gear acquisition syndrome) gladly and willingly is against nature and will only lead to male despair and general unhappiness! Cruel and unusual treatment. It’s akin to other forms of emotional abuse such as: “You really have enough shoes ….”.

    I don’t even own a guitar but I want one of these!!

    Yo,

    @1…You’ll find that it will be a great amp, however, it’s also important to consider the “dollar-per-Watt-paid” side-of-things…

    It’s possible, & even likely, that for similar dollars, you could get a 50 or 100 Watt head, & set-it-up with a 4 x 10 or 4 x 12 cabinet, which quite honestly will deliver a whole lot more versatility…Regardless, a 4 x 10 cabinet should be a primary goal here imo.

    Alex Lifeson of RUSH recently introduced his own brand, & line-of-amps that are hand-made in Canada, & I thought reasonably priced for what’s offered, so check this range out…

    https://alexlifeson.com/lerxst-amps/

    The market is huge, & tube-amps seem to keep getting reincarnated, & that reason is tone…Marshall of course are a major player too, but if you’ve never heard a Fender guitar through a Fender amp, stand back…

    Lots to consider, but if you “have” to have Steve’s amp, go-for-it. I dare say 20-Watts of tube-power when cranked-up may still get the neighbours across the street calling-up authorities for noise pollution lol !

    Peace !

    I’ll buy It anyway

    Vorsprung durch Technik!

    The ENGL stuff is well thought out. I personally don’t subscribe to the “an amp needs to be versatile” philosophy very much, I grew up with guitar heroes like Blackmore, Gallagher and Schenker that had pretty much just one sound over one amp (and any variation came from their hands mostly), BUT if an abundance of highly processed sounds is your thing (and Steve always excelled at employing those), then you can’t go wrong with an ENGL.

    CONSUMER ANNOUNCEMENT: It won’t turn you into a Steve Morse, but you’ll never again despair for lack of sound options.

    PS: Even the clean mode from this things sounds “doctored” as opposed to just „naked“, it’s not the clean sound you get from, say, a Fender Twin Reverb or a Roland Jazz Chorus. But we’re already in the realm of warring philosophies here. 🤗

    I listened to the original version of the not WS song of DP with Vai.khm.

    @2 Uwe
    Thanks, man, valid point there!
    Would be a crime against humanity, if I would get one of these!

    @4 Grellster
    Interesting, as well, but… in all honesty… for the venues I’m playing, 20W is more than enough.
    Guess it’s more the affinity to Steve’s tone.

    Good humour from Steve Morse & out here in no mans land it is about $3,000 Australian dollars from what I noticed. A nifty looking & no doubt great sounding unit indeed. Cheers.

    No tec from my side, but it is very good to see Steve.

    @8…

    The decision is yours Martin, but think of Higher Wattage amps & 4 x 10 cabinets like condoms, where you’re better to have one & not need one, than need one & not have one…

    And they’re also asking around 150-Euro’s for OEM replacement tubes plus postage that you will need one-day.

    # Tubes by design criteria need to meet an industry standard of around 5,000-hrs use, or 2,000 heat-cycles. They don’t necessarily make it this far for many reasons, such as knocks & bumps etc, so it may get expensive one-day for a technician to figure-out why your amp is making funny noises all-of-a-sudden.

    Should you be looking for the Vintage sound of early Mk-II DP when tube replacement time comes, the Vintage Russian “Vostock Rockets 6n2p-ev’s” can be bought for peanuts, & sound fantastic. These are 12AX-7 replacements, & are military grade tubes.

    Peace !

    What an amazing amp. I really miss Morse’s artistry and musicianship.
