Planet Rock salutes Purple
The latest issue of the Planet Rock magazine features Deep Purple on the cover and a 15-page feature inside.
With the band set to celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2018, we join Purple on tour in Stockholm and London to hear how the monumental In Rock album set the classic Mk. II line-up on the path to superstardom. Frontman Ian Gillan also explains why the Long Goodbye tour doesn’t spell the end for this ground-breaking musical institution.
The issue went on sale December 15th and can be ordered online via greatmagazines.co.uk.
Thanks to Yvonne for the info.

December 18th, 2017 at 06:31Can we get this magazine in the states?
December 18th, 2017 at 16:47While IG remains hesitant to admit that The Long Goodbye Tour means Goodbye,it’s a safe bet that Deep Purple will retire from the road in 2018.Not really 50 years ( from ’76-’84 there was no iteration of Deep Purple),they’ve come close enough to the half-century mark.A remarkable achievement,by any measure.
“Let’s not drag it out,like a Cagney death scene….”
Merry Christmas to all who gather here !!
December 18th, 2017 at 18:22@ mike whiteley
There WAS a lot of iterations between 76 and 84. Rainbow and Whitesnake being the most obvious ones. Don’t tell me Rainbow with RB and RG (and Don Airey, that in the end has become a part of the last encarnation) or Whitesnake, with Lord, Coverdale and Paice, weren’t Deep Puple please!
With this 8-year-period in between, it’s 50 years that count as 60.
December 19th, 2017 at 09:09@7 Michael Mazur – Mike, go to the following web-page. I am from Germany and that’s the place, that I order british magazines from. They work good and fast!

@ #7. I am in So. Cal. and just ordered mine online yesterday (12/18) from the link in the article. It was around $16 and they said around 2 weeks for delivery.
@ #8. I hope that they at least maybe do a couple of shows now and again rather than a full blown tour, especially here in the states so that they can give a proper last show and not have to share the stage with 2 other bands so they can play more than the “Hits”.
December 19th, 2017 at 16:43I saw last month’s issue of Planet Rock at Barnes & Noble today. I’m guessing the Dec. 15 issue hasn’t arrived yet. will check again soon.
December 19th, 2017 at 22:13@ johnny # 9-Every biography of Deep Purple that I’ve ever read says the group disbanded in 1976.Perfect Strangers was called a Reunion album in 1984.Rainbow and Whitesnake were great off-shoot bands, certainly part of the Purple Family tree.
December 20th, 2017 at 23:49Maybe “iteration” was the wrong word, but I don’t consider Rainbow or Whitesnake 76-84 as filling in the gap.
Received a copy of Planet Rock’s Deep Purple issue in the mail today. Have done a quick run through of it, and its a very nice treatment of the band.
December 29th, 2017 at 14:39After 40 years “in rock”myself I m clearly not someone who is easily impressed or satisfied.
I think I expected something else or this is indeed a bit of a mindfuck and trickery to sell loads of copies of this magazine.
About 8 pages devotes, incl big pictures to MK 2 and their landmarkalbum, 7 pages are shoved in my unwanting person to the current MK incl huge pagefilling pics.
Going through the rest of the magazine some more acts get the treatment of many pages, so…..
I like to read about other bands ofcourse but I found it too much at several moments.
Who needs 6y pages of Girslsschool when you are in for mega ride on the Deep Purple train?
I dont know if its sold in stores in the Netherlands but I ordered it through the adress given here above.
It delivers quite fast.
Had to use paypal instead just creditcard, dont know why it gave a problem.
January 5th, 2018 at 16:21Btw, fucking Pearl Jam gets 8 pages and Malcolm Young gets, rightly so 6 pages.
You see what I mean?
I m getting really old, I did not read the print next to the black and white pic shown above and thought it was Ritchie
January 5th, 2018 at 16:29It appears to be Jimi who btw get 5 pages.
