US tour announced
American leg of the Long Goodbye Tour has just been announced today. 19 shows in total (including a token Canadian date in Toronto). The tour starts on August 12 in Las Vegas and wraps up on September 10 in Cincinnati. Most of the venues are sheds belonging to the Live Nation and named after corporation du jour. Alice Cooper will be a co-headliner on all shows, with Edgar Winter Band as a special guest on some.
There will be a plethora VIP packages, with first presales starting January 30 at noon (which is just about now). General public onsale starts February 3 at 10:00 AM.
Full details in our calendar.
Thanks to Nigel Young, Lutz Reinert, and Mike Whiteley for the heads up.
They should give a “token” concert in Moncton NB again as in February 2012 they were in so much demand for one concert DP came back a day later for another concert!

January 31st, 2017 at 05:55The moniker of the tour is really upsetting… 🙁
Hi everyone !
January 31st, 2017 at 06:46First time I drop a line on the long time read website…
My question is simple although the answer might be more tricky : why doesn’t Ian Gillan attend the meet’n greet VIP packages ??
I had the chance to meet the whole band on a VIP package in Belgium in 2007. Since Ian doesn’t come up anymore…
Is it a kind of “diva” attitude ??? Which would surprise me from a man that I’ve been always considering as a gentleman !!
See you soon guys on the lon goodbye tour !!
Are they big venues?
January 31st, 2017 at 11:4119 shows in less than a month!!!
January 31st, 2017 at 13:04So much for retirement!!!
The guys should have never used this long goodbye slogan on their front cover.
Alice Cooper signing a duet with Gillan on Vincent Pricewould be a dream and Bob Miming backstage.
Keep rock and rolling guys ….retirements stinks
@16: I don’t know for sure why Gillan won’t attend meet and greets. It might be he simply doesn’t want to. Another more serious reason might be that the less people he meets and greets during a tour, the better chances he will say healthy and can sing. Imagine you meeting and greeting Gillan with your little cold and running nose and then you read two days later shows have been cancelled due to Gillan being ill. It can affect a singer worse than other members of the band.
Those lucky enough to meet band privately after gigs know that Gillan the last couple of years have stayed away from those meetings as well. I think he just want to/need to take care of his health as he is getting older.
January 31st, 2017 at 13:16A show in Virginia!Only a 3 hr trip this time!
January 31st, 2017 at 15:08Gonna hook up with STOFFER in St. Louis, MO for the 9-8-2017 show. Anybody else here want to join us??????

January 31st, 2017 at 16:07Very cold excuse reply to @16
But that’s not the reason. Gillan is always the first one of stage and the reason is that he is turning very grumpy. Don has mentioned a lot about it in his recent interview.
Off now to wash my hand. I think I might catch a cyber cold.
Just got some for the L.A. Show. Citibank C/C Presale but what a pain with Ticketmaster. The Alice Cooper Pre-Sale tix all converted to Citi. Plenty left in all but the first section with only a few left towards the back (Except for packages which I would love to do but can’t do $400/ticket (Alice is $600 per). I ended up a few rows behind what I wanted in the 2nd section but dead center aisle so that my Vertically Challenged girlfriend can see down it for her first show. Saw Edgar open for them back in 06(?) Can’t remember off top of my head for sure what year but Thin Lizzy (before the name change to Black Star Riders) was supposed to open and cancelled. Edgar came out during Smoke to jam with them.
I really wanted to do Vegas for the first show so they were well rested (LA is the next night), but alas. The past 2 times I saw them on the 2nd nite of back to back shows and then the next year after a couple nites off and the well rested show was MUCH better with a lot more playful interaction during the jams.
I know that the LA show starts at 5:00 PM (Sunday) but even the Vegas show started at 7 so I don’t think that 3 bands will be the cause for shorter sets if it is.
January 31st, 2017 at 20:02Yes, indeed, capacities ranging from 5,000 onto 20,000
February 1st, 2017 at 01:49Well, you can’t tour where you can’t sell tickets … oh, they could come to Charlotte, North Carolina and fill up a local music shed – but they wouldn’t even be able to sell enough tickets at the small Ovens Auditorium to pay for expenses. With each post-“Perpendicular” album selling fewer and fewer copies, I’m afraid the great Deep Purple is left to the dedicated fans these days – they are old men now, Lord is dead, no Blackmore – just won’t have that same crowd-pulling power today. I hope this will be the last tour as I hate to see any of my fave bands dwindle and die out like this. :-(.
February 1st, 2017 at 05:34Thanks Giorgi Kikonishvili, nice to see purple playing big venues in America again.
February 1st, 2017 at 08:46Getting Older , you think ? This is a big ass tour in big ass venues . Huge amounts of money involved . It will be a minor miracle if they get through all these dates without some kind of cancelation . I could really care less about the meet and greet , T shirts and any other extras .It’s all about getting to the venue , in your seat by curtain and , not having any sound problems . This is likely it for the band .They’re not coming up to Northern CA. So doesn’t look like I’ll see it .Been many times .Good billing .Edgar’s band is tits . Really a good set .Saw it last summer .Don’t miss him . cheers .
February 1st, 2017 at 20:49@14 See you in Vegas, my third time also.
February 1st, 2017 at 23:48I just scooped up four VIP tickets for the August 26h show at Jones Beach through the AmEx pre-sale.
February 2nd, 2017 at 02:09Fourth row, dead-center, orchestra section, including meet and greet, etc.
Last time I saw DP at the same venue was in 2002 when they were touring with Scorpions, and Ronnie James Dio was the opening act.
I have seen DP a few times in smaller venues (The Beacon Theater, The Capitol Theater) in NY over the last few years. They were superb.
I am so thrilled that for this tour they will be playing much larger venues.
Hopefully, all the shows will be sold out and the promoters will give this legendary band the great respect that it deserves.
LA at the Greek! Should be a fun show!
February 2nd, 2017 at 08:25No dates for northen California.? : (
February 2nd, 2017 at 13:43@16 I also believe that Gillan doesn’t meet people backstage because of health reasons. He is diabetic, and coupled with his age a show takes so much out of him. I remember times when Ian would always be the first to meet people backstage and always up for several drinks. But now all this has taken its toll and he has to take extra care of himself in order to perform at the next show. Of course he’s grumpier, getting old sucks, having more behind you than you have in front of you is no laughing matter. A few years ago I saw some photos a friend of mine took from the wings, and during the jamming between the guys Gillan would go and lie down on a mattress behind the backdrop. He obviously wasn’t feeling well and he was curled up on this mattress in a foetal position. So, he has to stay as healthy as he can on the road, and if this means no meet and greet then so be it. After all, the show is the most important part of the evening.
February 2nd, 2017 at 17:44Just got my two for Cincinnati – 2nd row – last US show ever?
February 3rd, 2017 at 20:08I’m definitely looking forward to the new LP, and of course I want to see them on the new US tour, but I live in too remote of a place to afford the trip.
February 5th, 2017 at 02:18All the best of fun to those of you going to the gigs.
I’ll bet we will at least get the official live album and DVD of the tour after it is finished.
That’s OK for me!
Where is Canada? Seriously hope they can conjure up more than 1 date! They haven’t been to Vancouver or Edmonton since 2012; granted, that isn’t an impossible amount of time–but I haven’t had a chance to see them since Bananas.
February 5th, 2017 at 05:49NO SHOWS IN THE S.E. UNITED STATES? WHY NOT?
