As many times as they can come up with new formats,4 track,8 track,LP,45,reel to reel,quad,cassette,cd,dvd,blu-ray,and if where lucky virtual reality, I’m with Greg on this.

  7. 7
    Kevin Staden says:

Chances are I might, but I’d rather spend the cash on stuff we’ve not had god knows how many times before.

  8. 8
    purpledaniel says:

Maybe it´s time to buy my first BR…

  9. 9
    Andy Thompson says:

The reason I bought a Betamax yip that was me £34 I think the tape cost ??the price of a new motorbike

  10. 10
    purpledaniel says:

But first, I need to know how long the super 8 extras are…will our THS mates help us with this?

  11. 11
    diofan says:

    I want a DVD from Largo(Landover) ,Maryland 1976!

  12. 12
    Andrew Boyle says:

But surely this was recorded on good old video tape which has a fixed resolution…I can see there would be an improvement as the video won’t be compressed but otherwise I don’t see the benefit?

  13. 13
    Alket Kellici says:

I bet it would not be a great or significant improvement! Let’s squeeze some money out of this!

  14. 14
    Peter Xuereb says:

    Already have it on DVD

  15. 15
    Scoot says:

I may have to go ahead and add the Blu-Ray to the collection. Not a great show, a fun show to be sure. some historical (memorable to those of a certain age) significance. If only the DP team could find a full 1993 show that is not the NEC mess released as Hell or High Water…

  16. 16
    Vince Palamara says:

I liked the original VHS version. The one from 2005ish has a muddy look. To be honest, this is a good show, but there are better Coverdale-era shows.

  17. 17
    Martin Klint Hald says:

Well, sound should be uncompressed, surly an upgrade….

  18. 18
    Noe Nunez says:

I hope they get it right this time, the previous “official” release was really bad, at times images and audio didn’t have anything to do with each other

  19. 19
    MacGregor says:

Poor ole Santa, weighed down again by all these festive releases. Seriously though, can it be improved upon visually? Maybe the audio no doubt, although to me it has always had a cracking sound to it! A great performance in so many ways. Not sure what the Super 8 crew recordings are, but if they entail some behind the stage filming of the chaos that was the Space Truckin’ stage blow up & Blackers smashing that camera, it will definitely be worth buying! Cheers.

  20. 20
    Carlo Corby says:

I have the original on Betamax … so due an update ?

  21. 21
    Jose Salcedo says:

Espero que sea una buena remadterizacion y dts-hd ma

  22. 22
    Arthur says:

Crikey, I remember it being released in the early 80s on VHS and costing about £40, unaffordable (to me at the time), I rented it once from a video shop. Now we have it on Blu Ray, be interested to see but still captured by 1970s tv cameras.

  23. 23
    Kevin says:

Fantastic! This was an epic performance by everyone!! I cannot wait for this gem…

  24. 24
    Brian Cizakowsky says:

My vhs tape cost 40 quid.
Still got the tape and receipt

  25. 25
    Blackwood Richmore says:

Aaaahhh…. The latest format. Can’t wait for the holographic version of it, lol!.

  26. 26
    Conrad Steeves says:

That DVD was from film stock source in which it was transferred from video tape to film stock decades ago which results in that terrible image quality. No idea how they can improve upon that unless they go direct to the network’s original video tape master to get that clean image.

  27. 27
    Vince Palamara says:

yes- that would be the way. I love the latest two-disc Deep Purple DVD Deep Purple: History, Hits & Highlights ’68-’76 AND the new Ritchie Blackmore story DVD.

  28. 28
    Conrad Steeves says:

I have the Japanese laserdisc edition which originates from the video tape source resulting in a clean image quality not found on the DVD edition (video to film stock transfer) from the previous decade. I couldn’t stand watching the DVD and only do watch it to see footage not found on the laserdisc.

  29. 29
    Ozzie Carrillo says:

    Once analog, always analog…

  30. 30
    Hornoxe says:

New cut? A TV station that _didn’t_ wipe the master tapes after the final mix back then?? But it’s still low resolution TV video – will there even be a difference on Bluray?

  31. 31
    DeeperPurps says:

Interesting that on the front cover, the order of names is not alphabetical. Coverdale gets first mention, then Blackmore; after which the alphabetical order kicks in.

  32. 32
    Conrad Steeves says:

I have to add that the tone Blackmore gets from his gear at Cal Jam is one of my favorites. The other two fave tones are from the 1990/91 and SIUA eras.

  33. 33
    Steven Maxwell says:

Yeah, no shit!! NOW it’s going to be ‘completely restored’?? What about the LAST DVD and CD version they released. Problem with these fucking blu rays now, is they are taking old films and doing a faked, bogus ‘wide screen’ adaptation to put on blu ray, and actuall cropping off film on the top and bottom to force it into the widescreen when it was never meant for that aspect ratio. I will wait for reviews before I think about touching this…

  34. 34
    Steven Maxwell says:

Nice! Would love a dupe of that laser disc…that would probably be better than this blu ray they are doing, which will likely be bullshit. Hope I’m wrong…..

  35. 35
    Phil Aston says:

The original VHS cost me £40 in 1981 – there were only two music videos available at the time – this and Jethro Tull

  36. 36
    purpledaniel says:

I certainly hope the video quality is improved. See for example The Doors at the Holliwood Bowl Dvd…that means even old video tape can be updated to more than good quality.

  37. 37
    RB says:

Although an iconic gig it’s not one of my favourites. Ritchie’s too low in the mix early on in the set, and it wasn’t one of his best performances (explosion aside), which is often the case when he’s being filmed. Glenn’s voice is louder that David’s, so I hope they can sort the mix out, otherwise I don’t see much point in forking out for simply a slighter better picture.

  38. 38
    purpledaniel says:

@11, who knows if the full show was filmed…probably not.

  39. 39
    Blackwood Richmore says:

@ 26 Conrad Steeves, computers can work minor miracles these days. Wait & see!.

  40. 40
    jeff says:

I have the original Japanese video and the image is WAY, WAY better than the DVD which came out some years ago. I hope this release pulls from whatever that Japanese video did.

  41. 41
    gareth says:

about time…but california jam cd was released a few years back and that was a missed opportunity for a deluxe edition with dvd as well !!!

  42. 42
    purpledaniel says:

I need to know it the US edition blu ray will be region cose A/1 or only B/2.

  43. 43
    purpledaniel says:

@11, did you know about this?
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bdeb9gTgB_g

    OMG OMG OMG

  44. 44
    Blackwood Richmore says:

@ 43 purpledaniel, just so awesome, THANKYOU!.

  45. 45
    Armando says:

At last, the CAL JAM 74 Concert in HD¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  46. 46
    Blackwood Richmore says:

@45 Armando, don’t keep us in suspense, write a review & tell us about the quality etc!.

  47. 47
    Mats Lagnefors says:

I’m not sure what they mean by “video restored & newly edited”. I find the image poor. Too different colour & exposure between cameras plus stripes in image and even some pic disturbances.

  48. 48
    Kevin says:

What an absolute let down this has turned out to be! I know the source material is 40+ years old, and it was filmed for TV, but he video quality on this is really poor!

I would certainly say that it is no better than the DVD copy, and I think it is actually worse than my old BBC BetaMax videotape…

Unless you are desperate for the bonus 8mm video footage, I really would not bother with this.

Very disappointing, and I honestly cannot see a reason for this to get a release, other than as a money making exercise…
