By this time, is there really anything left in the old story box that Ian hasn’t already told us?. Tune in to find out!.
October 13th, 2016 at 21:06Oh yeah, vintage TV for vintage stories (made up stories told a thousand times)!
October 14th, 2016 at 14:28Maybe some info on upcoming Purple Album release?????
October 14th, 2016 at 15:38Maybe Ian will tell the story about that outdoor concert at a speedway in Tampa, Florida (circa June 1973)…as I recall, it was a massive crowd that kept edging up on the band (who were playing on a concrete ramp) and Mr. Gillan stole the scene by approaching the crowd face to face while still singing. Then some big burly guy in the crowd jumped at Gillan and tried to take his microphone. Ian just grabbed this guy by the hair and started beating him with the mic stand. Gillan beat him so bad, the crowd backed up and started sitting down again. …I wonder what Ritchie thought? Purple carried on and finished the show.
That story comes from the “Listen, Learn and Read On” box set, if Ian needs a good story.
Cheers.

Hell, I wish there was video of that!
October 15th, 2016 at 16:06Oh…I meant @4
October 15th, 2016 at 16:07@4 I have a mint condition ticket from that 1973 Tampa show with Ian Gillan’s autograph. The ticket has a cool back story, and ZZ Top replaced a sick Billy Preston that day.
October 17th, 2016 at 16:16Kim, I didn’t hear about that story in Tampa, where I once worked (at WFLA radio in the late 1980s). But I was at the Deep Purple concert at Pine Knob Music Theatre (DTE Energy Center), a 20-thousand-person outdoor amphitheatre, in August 1998. A bouncer tried to beef down a fan, and Gillan proceeded to rap him on his bald skull repeatedly in tune to Black Night! It sounded like he was playing drums on this guy’s noggin’. The crowd loved it. Later, IG supposedly had to pay some small fine. In 2007 (I want to say), I was backstage with Gillan, Michael Lee Jackson, and Darby O’Toole, having a couple beers pre-concert. I asked Ian how he felt about “returning to the scene of the crime”. He good-naturedly asked me, “Oh, is this where that happened?”.
October 17th, 2016 at 23:35I should’ve noted that Pine Knob/DTE is in Clarkston, Michigan, a little south of Flint, and a ways north of Detroit.
October 17th, 2016 at 23:36Nothing new at all. Very poor interview questions and nothing that I could get excited about. Ian sounds very old and tired and if he wants to finish 2 years of extensive touring he better shape up and stop drinking beers. His belly is the size of Spanish watermelon!!!
October 18th, 2016 at 17:02Still I love Gillan and I think he should have been an actor as well in his later years.
Well, I just watched the interview on Vintage TV.
Nothing really new informations came to surface.
Ian looks like having a big hangover or a beer or two for breakfast.
Can anyone understand the name of the town he is living now in Portugal?
Have a nice Day!

Part two of Vintage TV’s IG interview.

Nicky Horne is a complete arse thinking he is being matey. When he was on Capital Radio doing his evening rock show back in the 70’s, you were guaranteed to get Floyd, Genesis and Zep, but not once did I ever hear him play DP. Thank god for Alan Freeman. And why was he being interviewing IG on Top of the Pops? Did he work for the BBC? No! The man is deluded. And from this interview, I learnt absolutely nothing.
October 22nd, 2016 at 23:28James, I was at that concert in Michigan. Was the last time I saw Jon Lord live last time I saw Ian with the long hair. ELP opened that night but they were kind of boring.
October 23rd, 2016 at 03:39Matt, I thought ELP were pretty good. Emerson spinning 360-degrees while playing organ and suspended by wires. Gillan still had long hair and could hit some high notes.
