Purple exhibit opens in Cleveland
Cleveland.com reports that a Deep Purple exhibit has opened at the brink-and-mortar Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (which now has officially dropped ‘and museum’ moniker). The exhibit is displayed alongside the other 2016 inductees, and includes a centerpiece of Blackmore’s Gibson ES-335 from the early years (it was last used in the studio to record Child in Time).
Cleveland.com also has a decent writeup of the band and the soap opera accompanying the induction process. Special kudos for “Twenty-two YEARS long overdue” conclusion.
Thanks to BraveWords for the info.
The comments are awesome in that link. Loyal fans to the end.
April 7th, 2016 at 20:09I thought that the original Gibson ES 335 was stolen from Ritchie back in the early 70ies …

April 7th, 2016 at 23:57What a shame Jon Lord wasn’t able to enjoy this. If any band deserves this recognition, it’s Purple. Congrats lads.
April 8th, 2016 at 00:00And ain’t she a pip?, but I still prefer to play my Stratocaster…. O.K., it’s hands up time, so what is your favourite electric guitar everyone?, or rather, what type of guitar do you have or play with?. Best answer wins the no-prize!.

April 8th, 2016 at 15:27I am on my way to see the guys inducted (about time). I have seen them on every tour since 85 and was not going to miss this. I know there is the usual debate about who is better, which lineup is better, etc., but for me the important thing has always been the music. No matter who was there, you knew that anything under the Purple brand was going to be quality. For me music has gotten me through a lot of miserable times and I was always able to count on Purple to help me get through bad times and improve the good times. Based upon the joy they (and I mean all of them) have given the fans- this honor is long overdue. Yes the Hall of Fame has screwed up by not inducting everyone (Nick, Tommy, Steve, and Don), but some day they may correct their error. Considering how long it took them to induct the band, I’m not going to hold my breath
