It’s bad news week
Roger Glover pays tribute to the recently deceased Lemmy, iconic BBC DJ Ed Stewart, and David Bowie (who managed to turn dying from cancer onto a work of art):
It’s said that bad news comes in threes. It did this last week.
RIP Lemmy, Ed Stewart and now Bowie. Ashes to ashes.
I met Lemmy in the 80s and we bumped into each other sporadically over the years. The last time I saw him was at the Classic Rock Awards at the Roundhouse a few years ago. We were getting a lifetime achievement award. During the interval, I slipped outside for a breath of fresh air (a smoke) and met Lemmy. After a too-long, one-way conversation I thought I’d better get back inside. Oh dear, Ian Gillan and Ian Paice were already on the stage, speeches done, getting the award from Gene Simmons. I ran on in time to explain that I dream for a living and walk off, feeling somewhat embarrassed. Oh well, that’s rock and roll. Thanks Lemmy. It is an honour to have known him.

Have to agree with Mr Glover on the Bowie analysis. When I viewed the clip upon its release, I thought he came across as a kind of tortured soul perhaps, however with Bowie, who can tell. He was the classic chameleon. After his death & viewing it again, yes it definitely did seem to be what I thought! So glad the media knew nothing of his last few years of life! What a classic way to let the world know, so to speak! He was an awesome identity indeed & as we know, they don’t make them like that anymore & never will!
January 13th, 2016 at 03:38In regards to the Lemster, whilst never a Motorhead fan at all, I knew of him from the Hawkwind days. Although we used to end our jam session/band practice with the proverbial Ace Of Spades, I could never take to Motorhead at all! But Lemmy & his interviews & outlook on life etc, were always entertaining for me. I will miss his vision of the world, so to speak! I did meet him briefly back in 1984 at a cancelled gig in our home town! The front of house mixing board wouldn’t work at all. Couldn’t believe that upon turning up at the gig & as a good friend of mine was in the support band, I missed out on an afternoon rehearsal sound check. Apparently they cranked 4 songs with the onstage gear. incredibly loud & Ace Of Spades was one of them! I had a quick chat to the Lemster that evening as he was playing the pokies with a JD in hand! He was not in a good mood as to the cancelled gig & all! Still, at least he didn’t not want to chat for a while. God Speed, well if that is where he is heading that is! RIP to both of them! Classic rockers indeed!
As usual, you find the time to pay respects toward others and show how complex you are and yet how simple it is to be caring and concerned about fellow human beings in unfortunate circumstances (in this case, passing on). Your sentiment is genuine and heart felt and I sense the fact that you are emotionally affected by these 3 having moved on to the stage of life we are all going to experience eventually. You are correct regarding Bowie. He was one of a kind and surly one of the best. Loved much of his work. Especially the earlier material. One of my favorite songs from him was “The Cracked Actor”. Will be looking into his last album “Blackstar”. Lets get together in Nashville while you are there recording????
CheerZ Roger.

Tough year, thus far. I am taking some time listening to Rainbow MK II, some Dio, and enjoying the videos of JB’s latest venture, Last In Line. Some vids on YouTube shot just 4 days before Mr. Bain’s passing. Wow…jammin’ up to the end!

January 26th, 2016 at 00:04You can add Paul Kantner ( founding member of Jefferson airplane/starship) to the list. There is one thing you can say about all these recent deaths, they were all in their late 60s/early 70s. I think it’s safe to say they at least lived a pretty full life, It sure beats dying at 27!!
January 29th, 2016 at 04:31Jefferson Airplane guitarist Paul Kantner passed away. RIP. Unbelievable, at the moment our heros fade away one after another.
