The Vinyl Collection
Kinda sorta news from the yet-another-re-release department: Universal Music is putting out a box set containing 7 studio albums on vinyl. And a bizarre selection it is — starting with Machine Head, and through to The House of Blue Light. The albums are claimed to be remastered, and the box is priced for preorder at £88.99. Release date is penciled in for January 29.
I am really sceptical about this one and “the remastered” edition. It is simply squeezing a few pennies out of us fans.House of Blue Light really wanted to check out and having Roger getting involve with that, but I guess he is too busy for that and other contractual stuff.i wanted a remaster/remix but hey im pretty sure fans will buy it
December 11th, 2015 at 20:50No “In Rock” or “Fireball”,?????
December 11th, 2015 at 21:37“House of blue Light ” remains the only one not been remastered yet …
December 12th, 2015 at 07:28What, waiting another 14 odd years before this vinyl is released?
Just kiding. Enjoy for whoever buys this.
December 12th, 2015 at 13:59“House of blue Light ” hasn’t been remastered yet? Do you mean for vinyl?
On CD, I must have 3 different versions and they all sound a little different.
December 12th, 2015 at 18:50That must mean it’s been re-mastered at least twice!
Although I do not collect vinyl, it would be great if they could fit the version of HOBL to LP that has the extended solos/longer fade outs. I have both versions and if I remember, ‘Strange Ways’ in particular is 2 or 3 minutes longer on different cd releases. The back cd cover is different. I am sure some fans know what I am talking about.
December 13th, 2015 at 18:49While vinyl will always have a special appeal to those of us who grew up dissecting the covers and sleeves for clues to our band, I have a question for the faithful on THS. I am interested in buying the highest quality physical CD’s of some of the classics including In Rock, Machine Head, Made in Japan (All 3 nights even better), Burn, Perfect Strangers and HOBL. I have a friend who is an audiophile and has a zillion dollar system that I would like to crank to 11. Could I get some opinions on the best versions to buy? It has all gotten so confusing… makes the vinyl that much more appealing for it’s simplicity.
December 13th, 2015 at 23:05@ Scott W You are right…Strangeways is longer with Ritchie’s guitar solo being extended. I just have the ‘original’ cd though. I have mixed feelings about HOBL..its a little too polished for my liking production wise and is indeed over due a proper re-mix
December 14th, 2015 at 11:59no In Rock or Fireball so universal can stick this up their box ! Also what about previously mentioned releasing remasters of Perfect Strangers and HOBL with the correct extended running times for tracks that were on original lp and cd release ?
December 14th, 2015 at 13:21@ 5 Anthony
u think it might be REMIX FOR THAT ? yes I have the same feeling about the production, but I used to play the crap out of it back in the day,and I still have the vinyl somewhere.
December 14th, 2015 at 16:37Little off topic, but I’m waiting for Abandon on vinyl, the only studioalbum I do not have on vinyl…
Any Words on that?
Cheers

I am waiting for Abandon on vinyl as well. hope it comes out soon! Anybody here know where to get a copy of Bananas on vinyl for a decent price? It is insane on amazon ($200+), if you can find it!
December 17th, 2015 at 20:59I, too, have all the albums on vinyl with Abandoned being the exception. As DP has made a point to release and re-release it’s catalogue, I don’t see the need for a box set, unless, of course it’s done by a premium label like MFSL. As it is, Purple Records and Friday records have done an admirable job with the older albums.
December 18th, 2015 at 01:22NWO, I might have a copy left off Bananas, pristine, never played.
December 19th, 2015 at 23:56@ Rock Voorne – Definitely I’m interested. It is just a matter of how much $$$$! I’m happy with the CD 🙂 List it on kijijji or ebay so I can contact you, or any other way of contacting you..
December 21st, 2015 at 01:52Amazon (UK) have just shown both IN ROCK and FIREBALL being released on vinyl on 12th February. They are currently priced at £18.79 (GBP) each. The label says unassigned but they will be through Warner Music so expect them to be on Harvest / Parlophone.
January 26th, 2016 at 21:12And I’ve been waiting for years for a vinyl version of the fantastic Deep Purple Stuttgart live 1993 concert, where all the band members in the Mk 2 line-up were in top form!
