US press roundup
Several items appeared in the US press in the last few days that didn’t seem significant enough to warrant separate posts.
ABC News Radio has an interview with Steve Morse promoting the tour.
There is a generally positive, if superficial review of the opening night of the tour in Scottsdale, Arizona, at AXS.com.
VC Star opted for a bootleg quality video clip from the show at Ventura County Fair on August 5.
And perhaps this would be the right time to remind you that you can send in your own review of a show via our review submission form.
Thanks to Andrey Barabanshchikov and Amit Roy for the info.
“Superficial?” I say there is plenty to write home about concerning Arizona and both California shows, so far. Excellent shape! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GFXZFdsTW8

August 7th, 2014 at 23:36Costa Mesa @6:03 sounds like a fantastic vocal to me. Please deny it so we can laugh instead of fight. 😀 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FckBwMw0gyw
August 7th, 2014 at 23:38LRT @ 1, 2 & 3….I fully concur. The band is in top shape and Ian is strong of voice. Considering the man is almost 69 years old (on this coming August 19th), I think he is doing an absolutely stellar job on vocals. Any criticism of his efforts would be mean-spirited, in my humble opinion.
August 8th, 2014 at 13:05Costa Mesa was a fantastic performance. Ian sounded better than the last couple of tours, actually. The only problem was the venue is very strict with a hard out time for concerts, at exactly 10:30pm. This limited the band to only 90 minutes on stage. They made up for it with three tracks from Now What?! and Ian kept the between song banter to an absolute minimum. Stellar solo from Morse and one of the best Don Airey solos I’ve personally seen. Working on a full review, but for now here is a photo gallery from the evening: http://www.atlinernotes.com/2014/08/deep-purple-live-at-pacific.html

August 9th, 2014 at 22:26Thank you.
I got a little worried there for a minute. I thought they took THE MULE out of the set.
They should have Left Aprez Vous and Above And Beyond In. Especially Above and Beyond. That’s one of 2 songs for Jon. Screw the Die hard Deep Purple Fans. Wait a minute I’m a die hard Deep Purple Fan. So Screw Me. LOL!!!
I think you know what I mean.
August 11th, 2014 at 04:42Great to see all of this coverage of the band here in the States. Also great to read all of these POSITIVE statements about their performances and the latest album. The fact is that anybody who is lucky enough to attend one of their shows or listen to their recent albums (NW in particular), can’t deny the evidence that exists. They are still (yes even without TMIB) an incredible group of musicians that continue to play Live and record studio music at a supreme level…. Above and Beyond the mainstream musicians of today.
That being said, 15 songs in these shows? Only 15? That is a true disgrace to say the least. 20 should be the minimum and no less than half of NW should be in the setlist along with a couple of other Morse/Airey era tunes….
