Sweet Tea

The record company has published promo video for Sweet Tea – a track from the upcoming BCC4 inaugural California Breed album:

A promo feature with several quotes from Hughes accompanies the video release in USA Today:

We were there for 17 days, and we completely recorded it — here’s the kicker, all live onto two-inch tape. It’s the first time in my career where I sang the entire album, from tip to toe, live.

We recorded each track twice, drums and guitar, then I over-dubbed the bass on the comps of those songs. I sang the songs twice, and Dave comped my vocal tracks from each song, and we had a full, complete album.

On meeting Andrew Watt:

I saw this kid walking toward me, and he looked very much like I did in 1970 — long hair, had a really cool hat on. He spoke my language musically.

It’s not so much shredding guitar, it’s coming from Mick Ronson, it’s coming from John Frusciante, it’s coming from Jimmy Page. I thought, this would be really good if we could make a trio of this, and there was only one guy in mind to play drums. That was Jason.

Thanks to Amit Roy, BraveWords, and USA Today for the info.

Californie Bread? This one needs less rustic factors.

Two Brits and a New Yorker… So, how is this Californian?…
Song is not bad… GH’s voice just keeps getting better. Don’t know how he does it..

A great sound and performance from the trio, the three talents really go well together and we all know Glenn’s and Jason’s talent but Andrew Watt is a real revaluation .
Two months is quite a wait for the album, however the prospect of seeing them live is something to look forward to .

I am looking forward to see what the Glenn haters have to say about the track, no doubt plenty more claptrap about his performances 40 years ago and his ego.
The reality is that this fella at 60plus is still making quality music and can cut it live, let’s give him respect.

“I’m so glad, I’m so glad, I’m glad, I’m glad, I’m glad”…. to see this. Mainly the Trio thing. This removes the typical Purple Keyboard sound and cuts right down to the core with some straight forward old school rock. Introducing this young guitarist was quite ballsy and refreshing at the same time. He is sort of a White Prince in my observation. That is a compliment BTW.

Check out this recent performance by Prince on the Arsenio Hall show:

This TRIO effect puts the spotlight on each player so effectively. The video totally shares the wealth and seems to give us a good look as to their dynamic stage presence and separately and together. As much as I liked BCC, I am actually more enthused with this. I remember as the BCC line-up was being revealed, I was disappointed (and stated as such) with the addition of the keyboard. This is what I was looking for with BCC. But better. I’m excited to see AW progress and take on some of the Purple related tunes that we all know they will attempt LIVE.

Glenn seems quite energized here and his look has improved also. There are 3 mega-personalities in this band as you can see from the video. Full of fire and brimstone. CAN’T WAIT FOR THE ALBUM and TOUR!!!!

This is great!! I really like it. Proper classic rock full of soul, attitude and raw excitement. Bonham’s superb powerful swinging style really makes this move the right way 🙂

I’m so happy Glenn and Jason have continued where BCC ended. Too bad they couldn’t keep the name cause this rocks just as much as that band did. Great work!
