Coverdale, what a classic that was. He has written some of the worst lyrics in rock music IMHO, in Whitesnake! But also the album with Jimmy Page had some terrible lyrics. But alas, as he said he is referring to ‘hedonism’ & in that part of the world it is rife indeed!
February 20th, 2014 at 02:59Time to grow up & let go of the ‘teenage’ years & maybe the ‘interviewer’ should get a life also! Cheers.
#Wandosnake!!!!!
February 20th, 2014 at 03:49Toch geweldig dat jij David Coverdale hebt geïnterviewd Niek Kolkman !!
February 20th, 2014 at 08:34We’ll they are right, most ‘Snake songs ARE about Fornicating.
February 20th, 2014 at 12:03Damn, David’s looking like an old drag queen here in this interview. Sure that was a slip?????
February 20th, 2014 at 16:01@5
February 20th, 2014 at 22:35funny they re talking about fornicating and sex ,and I could not help but kind of feeling the same about his hair and looks. ouch Sorry David !
MacGregor @1:
I couldn’t agree more! This man is lyrically challenged in the extreme and I can’t listen to anything he recorded after mid-1978. As I’ve said elsewhere though, the Whitesnake and Northwinds albums are pretty cool.
DC could write a good melody, but leave the words to someone else (please)… he needed his own Bernie Taupin.
February 21st, 2014 at 08:41The freudian slip is not about the lyrical talents of Coverdale, but the comment about WS promoting Def Lepoard.
February 22nd, 2014 at 13:41henrik h@8- no-one said it was! I mentioned Coverdale’s appalling lyrics because of the ‘fornication’ comment & that is putting it mildly! The comment he & the interviewer were ‘banging’ on about! Seems they just cannot get away from those high school boy times, & a little after the school years of course when everyone is in ‘party mode’, so it reminds some people of the similar comments in his woeful lyrics with Whitesnake! I could mention plenty of those lyrics here, but I am not going to drop to their level! It is high school boy material, it really is time to ‘let it go’ Coverdale! He is a fine vocalist & many other lead vocalist have spread the word of the carnal variety over the years, but he seems to over indulge at times! Robert Plant wrote some ‘carnal’ lyrics also on the early Zeppelin albums & they were also embarrassing! Plant didn’t keep going on about it album after album though!
February 22nd, 2014 at 22:42I agree with purpoz @ 7- Leave the lyrics to someone else, just write the tune so to speak! But then again, if someone wrote different lyrics I suppose Coverdale wouldn’t have anything to ‘strut & wriggle & gyrate to whilst playing live’! He would find that a daunting prospect no doubt! Cheers.
henrik h @8
I disagree. He made the statement about ‘fucking’ and said “We like to fuck, don’t we guys….” then he corrected… “girls”.
I doubt ‘Freud’ cared about Def Leppard. Again, it was a ‘Freudian Slip’. Freud was all about sexual interpretation.

bingo! we have a winner 😉
February 23rd, 2014 at 16:51Whitesnake – best band in the world ever, 1st album I ever bought was Ready an’ Willing aged 11.
If I was bothered about lyrics I’d read some poetry – and I’m not sure great anti war tomes quite fit with the Whitesnake sound.
February 24th, 2014 at 00:06Well,nowadays David is lots better talking than singing. His voice is still there, but when singing is sounding like Brian Johnson.
February 24th, 2014 at 14:30@12 that is one way to see it,but Rush have some really deep philosophical lyrics( Neal Peart) but they still rock! DC is all saccharine.
February 24th, 2014 at 18:49You might say the same about the great late Ronnie James Dio,writing about Hell and Heaven,Rainbows and Witches over and over, but he was the best of it,so like the French would say Chacun sa merde. lol
Whitesnake WAS a great band. One of the best ever. But i was in old days. Since the “big hair” time it has only gone Down. I’m 100% sure that DC can sing much better than now. Just go back to the real Whitesnake songs and sing them like in the old days. Forget the high notes, just like Gillan are not singing Child in Time. And bring in some players WHO knows the rock-blues stuff.
February 25th, 2014 at 10:07al@14- Yes indeed, Neil Peart is one of the great lyric writers, Ian Anderson (Tull), Jon Anderson (Yes), King Crimson have always had wonderful lyrics also, Pink Floyd, Hawkwind, Black Sabbath & Dio of course. I suppose when I am into the artists mentioned & others that have decent lyrics, superb songs & brilliant playing then it contains it all & it is brilliant! When I was young I didn’t care about the ‘lust’ lyrics from some bands, but as we grow older it tends to be an embarrassing thing to hear these days, for me anyway! That is why I say the ‘grow up’ comments in relation to Coverdale’s comment recently, or maybe be a little bit more discreet with it. An old rooster trying to strut about the place, when he should be leaving that to the younger roosters. The same with Gillan a little while back & the ‘stripper’ thing, all fun no doubt, but it looks ‘sad’ when the old guys are involved in it! But as some say, ‘that’s rock ‘n roll’ or should that be ‘that’s the business’? Older men & younger females! Cheers.
February 25th, 2014 at 20:33@ 16 Mac Gregor
to finish that thought, the last couple of albums by DC and this line up of Whitesnake have been nothing but mediocre to say the least
with the same 80’s formula but heavier.I didn’t mind the lyrics as much back in the yearly albums,as long as the music was good and “simple”(the bluesy times),but even when you are more than willing to give a pass to Good ol’ DC,you cannot help but cringe of the same long dated cliche of his topics and “Good to be Bad ” image! Like you would say :Grow Up man!
cheers
February 26th, 2014 at 19:37Here at the book of McCoverclown. 😀
February 27th, 2014 at 10:36Eddie (too much eyeliner in the Trunk)
February 27th, 2014 at 10:43Plant stole lyrics of complete songs on those early albums 🙂
Thats something else compared to just using the intro of Bombay Calling!!!
February 27th, 2014 at 12:17@ 20
and Page stole the music lol
February 28th, 2014 at 03:11Hey MacGregor, why do you hate Coverdale?
March 3rd, 2014 at 13:18pacuha@22- Who said that I ‘hate’ Coverdale?
