A Light in the Dark
More Black Than Purple has announced that
[…] a RAINBOW box set provisionally entitled A LIGHT IN THE DARK is being released. It contains many previously unreleased tracks, and spans the band’s years from 1975 – 1984. More news soon, but it could be out before the end of the year.
Thanks to Andrey Gusenkov for the info.
caint wait the read the setlist:-)
July 17th, 2013 at 20:58@ o cmon what could be new out there ? like b sides and live versions ? Another rip-off edition !
July 17th, 2013 at 21:39Any new, unreleased Ritchie and Ronnie is always welcome in my book!
Their partnership may have been short lived, but they were the best Rock duo, ever, in my humble opinion.
Looking forward to seeing what tracks are on this.
July 17th, 2013 at 21:49@ Al. Did you read the artcle? “Previously unreleased”… 🙂
July 17th, 2013 at 21:59@ 4 oh please! let’s wait and see. lol
July 18th, 2013 at 00:49Yes, I agree with Kevin @ 3 – the first thing I thought of also, Blackmore & Dio material. Waiting in anticipation indeed!
July 18th, 2013 at 06:29Robert Plant & Jimmy Page were probably the best ‘duo’ collaboration in rock for my book, but each to their own. Cheers.
Now this sounds interesting!! I hope a few of the 1980 Castle Donnington tracks are included ( definitely more from the Bonnet era ).
With the live Rainbow Dusseldorf DVD out next month and this release..what more could we ask for? 🙂
July 18th, 2013 at 06:57uuuups …

July 18th, 2013 at 07:20Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ……….so happy.
July 18th, 2013 at 10:18Looking at the cover of Rising in this web site makes me feel in my 20’s again,! OMG, what a wonderfull album it was ! And the cover ! Rainbow Rising is my windows background image and my avatar in whatsapp! I think, Rising was, by far, the best Rainbow album… Looking forward to seeing the tracks list as well!
July 18th, 2013 at 12:06More Blackmore & Rainbow. Yeah it works for me. Cant wait to hear it.
July 18th, 2013 at 13:25“Previously Unreleased”
I have seen that claim before on material that was already available. Let’s wait and see the setlist.
It could mean..
Previously Unreleased….this month
July 18th, 2013 at 17:02Previously Unreleased….in a Rainbow box set
Previously Unreleased….by this label
Previously unreleased. can’t wait.
July 18th, 2013 at 20:34Maybe they should push out a special EP Vinyl with Light In The Black LIVE on it as promotion ? 🙂
July 19th, 2013 at 08:58Unreleased could be something tremendous like some live material from the DIO/Bonnet era or could be studio chatter (like on the In Rock remaster) or could be record company tricks as Russ accurately states in #12. I hate to buy a box set for one track.
July 19th, 2013 at 14:29You never now what the cat drags in! 🙂
Very, very interesting news, indeed! If I could just wish here…it would be the original studio LPs (OK, CDs, whatever) remastered, proper booklet with some never seen photographs and good long essay, this time by The Man himself, our Ritchie. Maybe track by track notes, what do You think, Mates ? Plus now these unreleased ones, of course !
And like I have already said earlier, speaking of unreleased material…! We want the Donnington 1980 DVD ! Cheers, Mates all around the globe!
July 19th, 2013 at 19:31yesssss c’mon Blackmore!Bring your rock back together
July 20th, 2013 at 15:07Never felt more cheated than with that f***ing ‘Cozy Powell Mix’ on ‘Down To Earth’. Drums to the front, putting a blanket over the other instruments. So I am very sceptical about this new one.
July 23rd, 2013 at 09:18Something similar to the Roxy Music Complete Studio Recordings Box Set would be nice.
Flat transfers
Vinyl replica gatefold sleeves and inner bags
Separate CDs with A & B sides plus unreleased tracks.
Hope one day they will release the complete Rainbow Live At Donington 1980 on CD.
July 28th, 2013 at 13:59Once again it will be quite interesting to see “what lies beneath” with the deluxe edition of Rainbow Rising not too long ago, i wonder if they’re will be a lot of unreleased music, or perhaps repeats from other compilations, hopefully their will be a good cross section, although the Dio version was more powerful, no doubt it may include Joe Lyn Tuner & Graham Bonnet, we shall wait and see.
July 29th, 2013 at 07:07Obviously, all we can hope for Is true ‘Unreleased’ material. Hopefully studio stuff such as jams, outtakes, and non-album tracks. Don’t really see the point for ‘live’ performances of already played tunes. We’ll see. Looking forward to it though with ‘bells on my pointy little hat’.
Ch-BeerZ?!
August 6th, 2013 at 03:03Rainbow at the Santa Monica Civic and Rainbow at the Shrine in Los Angeles are in the Archives somewhere, unfortunately God maybe the only one that has the original recordings.
September 7th, 2013 at 05:47Any news about this boxset?
I read that it would contain 4 cds, each spanning two years of the career of Rainbow 1975-1984.
They released the singlebox, but no news on this one or the Donnington 1980 dvd either.
April 7th, 2014 at 12:06The set is now previewing on amazon.co.uk and listed as coming soon.
It’s listed as ‘Rainbow – A Light In The Black’ and is a 6 disc cd + dvd set……it appears to contain at least one dvd, of the Rainbow Monsters of Rock Donington performance!!
At last….I can’t wait for this one & here’s the link (I can’t seem to insert as a hyperlink, so please paste into your browser);
